Part 6

"I don't care. We need to find it now!" yelled my father as I walked in the door.

"Find what?" I asked.

I looked around and from what I could see, every room was a mess!

"My wedding ring!" he shouted.

That had to be the first and only time that I had ever heard my father sound this scared or talk about something so... unusual. I walked over to help him look but when I tried, one of the maids ran straight into me. My backpack slid off my arm and the locket fell out. I tried to hurry and grab the locket before anyone had seen it. It was under a coffee table under a family portait on the wall. I had almost gotten to it when the maid decided she would help and picked it up instead. I was going to thank her but ended up hitting my head on the bottom of the coffee table, not remembering that I was still under it.

"I'm sorry, your majesty. Here you are." she said.

She handed me the locket and ran off again.

After I had gotten all of my books back into my backpack, I proceeded to help my father look.

"Why don't you just leave it to them?" I pointed to all the maids and butlers running around the room.

"Because. Your mother will be home any minute. If she finds out I lost the ring, she'll be so mad. I don't even want to know what she'll do when she---"

He didn't even have time to finish his sentence when the door opened. It was mother. I sat down before she would see me searching. She smiled at us both and walked towards father. He welcomed her with open arms. They embraced. I looked under the pillow next to me on the bench I was on. There was something golden under it. I knew what it was. I held it up and father looked at me. I had the ring.

"So, where's your ring?" she asked.

I knew that if I had given them anymore time before I revealed the ring, they would probably begin to quarrel about the ring incident. I had to play it off somehow before I could just show mother.

"Right here." I said.

"Why do you have it?" she asked.

"I took it. You see, I learned a new trick from some kids at school and just wanted to try it out for myself. Here you are father. I will just be in my room doing homework. Bye."

I tossed the ring to my father and he caught it. He smiled at me and my mother just stared with her eyebrows raised. I didn't want to hear what she would say to me if I stayed down there any longer. I tossed my bag on the chair by my desk. It tilted and fell off the chair but I didn't care. I layed down on the bed and stared at the ceiling. It was very peaceful and comfortable. I wondered why I liked the silence. I never had before. Maybe it was just because I didn't have to sit in the quiet palace all day. The roaring of the crowds in the hallways between classes were enough, I guess. School wasn't all that bad. It was a lot nicer than the commoners school. Miu showed me some pictures on her phone. They didn't look as nice but it wasn't like they were run down either. I was almost so relaxed I could have just gone to sleep but of course, silence can never last that long. My phone had to ring. I groaned. The phone wouldn't stop ringing. Finally, I got up, stretched, picked up my backpack, and got my phone.

"Hello?" I yawned.

"Hey Koda. I'm going to be a little late today. Miu asked me to help her with plans for the next student council meeting. Is that ok?"

I recognized that voice. Who was it? I was to tired to think of it.

"Yeah. That's fine. See ya." I answered.

"Ok. See ya."

I hung up the phone and layed back down. I closed my eyes and was almost asleep.

"WAIT!!!! WHO WAS THAT!!!???" I yelled as I jumped out of bed.

I opened my phone again and saw that it was just Azami. I felt dumb. I laughed at myself and then screamed and finally layed back down.

"What's going on?" yelled Arion as he ran through the door.

Porcia was right behind him.

"Are you alright, your majesty?" she asked.

They sounded like they were both out of breath.

"Yeah. I'm fine. Sorry for scaring you. I was just... I don't know." I covered my face with the pillow.

"You sound like you've gone completely mental." Arion laughed.

"I think you need some rest your majesty. Were you awake all night last night?" Porcia asked.

"Yes, and the night before that, too. I haven't been able to get that locket or that gunman out of mind. The memory won't allow me the time to sleep. For all I know, I could have gone completely insane by now." I answered.

"Then you need to get to sleep." Porcia said.

I nodded and went to sleep so that I would not have to worry about everyone being so worried. Whether I liked it or not, I was tired.
