Grayton sighed as he walked to meet Kya in the theatre: the exact same place he had fallen in love with Beatrice. He spotted her in a seat a few rows up as he walked inside. He walked over to her and gave a polite smile.
"So, Kya, what what you like to do today?" he asked her sweetly.
Kya whipped around suddenly, a soft smile appearing on her face. "I'm up for whatever."
"No, seriously! What is the one thing you haven't done that you want to do?" he asked. "I'm serious, like if you want to go and jump in the pool, watch a movie, or whatever, I'm up for it!" Grayton smiled, one brow rose as he awaited her reply.
"All of it is new to me," she said. "I don't have time at home to do any of that."
"Well, now you do! I've got it! Let's go to the stables! Ever ridden a horse before?" His eyes lit up at the idea. He hadn't been out for some fresh air in a while.
Kya shook her head. "No, I haven't."
"I could teach you, if you like," Grayton offered, his smile widening.
"I would like that," she said with a smile.
"Allons-y then!" He took her hand and led her to the stables.

They walked outside, where the sky was partly cloudy, but nevertheless warm and nice. At the stables, he showed her a beautiful roan colored horse. "We got a few new horses last week. This one's name is Sundance. Maybe you want to ride her?"
"Sure," Kya looked up at him, grinning as he took Sundance out of her stall.
He helped her onto the horse. "Let me get my horse, Tennant," Grayton said as he turned, let out his horse, and mounted the Clydesdale, riding up beside Kya and Sundance. "We've got trails everywhere, but I know of one which leads to a beautiful lake, and swans like to swim there. Or we could go to the woods. Your choice!"
"Wherever you want to go," she replied with a smile and small laugh.
"No. This time you have to choose! I want you to pick the place. Now, beautiful lake or woods?" Grayton laughed, his brown eyes bright.
"I'll take the beautiful lake then," Kya laughed with him, her smile wide and happy.
Grayton shared her smile and led her there. They continued to spend the afternoon together and enjoyed the beautiful weather, Grayton's heart growing slightly heavy.
He liked Kya, but he loved Beatrice.
"How am I supposed to decide between them?"

Grayton shook his head as he walked back from the date, sighing. He stopped when he heard the faint voice of a girl in the hallway, leading to the music room. A guitar was playing with the melodic voice, and he followed it. Grayton stopped at the doorway when he saw the performer: Beatrice.
Beatrice, with her eyes closed, sang softly, her heart at ease as the words tumbled from her lips. She began to sing a song she wrote, all about her. It was her autobiography.
A five year old girl whose father taught her to sing, a ten year old girl who performed for the first time, a thirteen year old girl who fell in love with her best friend, a fifteen year old girl who lost her mother. A sixteen year old girl who shut down when her first love died, and finally, a part she just added: a seventeen year old girl who was able to smile again, because of a prince.
A tear fell down Grayton's cheek as he listened to each word. "That, my dear, was beautiful."
Beatrice looked up, her face reddening. "You heard all of that?"
His brown eyes met hers. "I did. Was I not supposed to?"
She shook her head. "Oh, no. It's fine. I just wondered how long you've been standing there."
"Long enough to hear your beautiful voice," Grayton replied, smiling softly at her.
A sweet blush covered Beatrice's face like a veil. "Thank you."
"Most welcome," he said softly as his gaze went from her to the piano. "I think I told you I played piano, if I'm right. Care to play and sing with me?"
"Sure!" Beatrice smiled, setting the guitar down and walking over to the piano.
Grayton shared her smile, walked over to the piano, and began to play 'Love Builds a Garden'. Beatrice sat beside him on the piano bench. "Do you want to sing while I play?" he offered, stopping momentarily.
She nodded. "I'd like that," Beatrice smiled brightly as he continued playing, singing the old song happily.
"You hear it every day
Once upon a time they say
Once upon a time in this place
I looked and saw on your face
A smile that spoke to me
In oh so many ways
The Sunday morning bells
Rang out that all was well
Sunshine across the yard
We'd rest when we worked hard
We take a little time off
To appreciate the day
And love builds a garden
Grew it from the ground up
Each one of us knowing
Every inch of it was us
We pulled it all together
Hoping and believing
That love built this garden
For the two of us to dream in
We'd get a little rain
Then the sun came out again
But a frost it's hard to fight
Once it takes hold flowers die
There's only so much you can do
To keep some things alive
And love builds a garden
Grew it from the ground up
Each one of us knowing
Every inch of it was us
We pulled it all together
Hoping and believing
That love built this garden
For the two of us to dream in
Sad to say, it's true
Without a lover who
Cares as much
Well I guess, I guess it goes to prove
That love built a garden
Growed it from the ground up
Each one of you knowing
Every inch of it is trust
Pulled it all together
Hoping and believing
That love builds a garden
For the two of you to dream in."
Their brown eyes met as the song ended. Grayton smiled softly at her, his heart thumping wildly in his throat. Beatrice shared his smile, a smile that crinkled the corners of her chocolate brown orbs. Grayton leaned in to press a sweet kiss to Beatrice's rosebud-like lips. She melted into the kiss, her own heart fluttering softly.
As they pulled away, Grayton took her hands in his, his smile shy. "We should write a song together."
Beatrice nodded. "We should. Let's see...I have some lyrics. Want to see them? We could work from them and create our own from that, if you want."
"Sure," he replied as she handed him her worn blue leather notebook. Grayton cracked the book open, each page filled with words and poems waiting eagerly to be set to music. Some pages contained tear stains, others carrying the sweet scent of flowers in them. Grayton handed it back to Beatrice, impressed with her poetic gift. Beatrice scanned through the book, her eyes lighting up suddenly.
"I've got it! Just follow my lead. I promise it'll be great." She began to play the piano softly, her fingers delicately rolling over the keys. "You are my light in the dark, I sing with all my heart.."
"And you are my lucky star, from whom I saw afar.." Grayton sang with her, his baritone voice mingling with her soprano.
Beatrice smiled up at him, her fingers still flitting across the keys. They continued to sing, Grayton eventually playing harmony on the piano with her.
The song ended, and their eyes met once more. "We wrote a song," Beatrice grinned. "We wrote a song," he repeated, his smile mirroring hers.
My lucky star. She's exactly what I wished for that night before I lost Reinette.
My little lucky star...
