Dedicated to Aashi,
who's face I would love to see everyday ;)
"Amisha Jeet?" Contrary to the answer or rise of hand that is expected, no one moves or replies. "Jeet, Amisha Jeet," Professor Bane repeats, rolling up the cuffs of his black dress shirt. The Incantations Professor's attire consists of black, and Sierra wonders if the man wears black in Summer.
Before the elder witch can mark his student as absent, the large doors of the classroom burst open, and a girl stands trying to catch her breath. Her blazer hangs off her arm, and the white button up contrasts against her mocha skin. Her skirt is rolled up to mid-thigh and Adneus Bane makes a mental note to check with the Principal about skirt lengths.
"Miss Jeet?"
"Yeah, Amisha Jeet," she replies and he picks up on the English accent.
"Thank you for joining us," Professor Bane replies curtly. "Please ensure, that you arrive on time for your classes from now on."
With an exasperated sigh, the younger witch replies, "Right, off course." Without seeking permission from the professor like many other witches would've done, Amisha sits down at the nearest bench. She shoots her bench mate an awkward smile that goes to waste when Amisha realises that the girl sitting next to her is more focused on keeping her eyes open.
After what seems like a hundred more names, their first class begins.
"If you are a Luxine, please move over to the right side of the classroom. The others take a seat on the left side." At the professor's words, students separate crossing over to their designated side.
Lucas Faye looks at the students on his side; there aren't many, barely twenty actually. Whereas almost a hundred witches stand on the left side of the classroom. Sierra had explained to him earlier on at breakfast about how magic runs through your veins, it's within you, it cannot be created. Hence why random humans didn't wake up controlling the weather or whatever. Judging by the difference in numbers, it is blatantly obvious that cases where witches aren't aware of the magic in them is a rare case, however not abnormal.
"Now, I'm not discriminating," the Deputy Principal starts and chuckles and some students who look desperate to pass let out awkward and forced laughs. Luke smirks and when he looks at Noah, he realizes that he too looks amused. "But Luxines will need extra classes to do a little catching up. These sessions will be every day after their classes have ended. They will last for two hours and then you'll finish by dinner."
The Luxine students nod in understanding and the professor smiles.
"Fantastic. Now, I just want this side," he says, gesturing to the witches on the left side. "To spread out across the classroom and stand near a spot with a leaf."
Some witches rush to take a spot near a dry leaf, whereas others take their time.
"Now, say revelio. Only say it! Do not chant it."
Like every year, the batch of students says it out of synchronisation and Professor Bane allows a knowing smile take over his face.
"Great, now chant it as you look at the leaf. I want you to imagine the leaf catching on fire," he instructs further. Despite the clear instructions, the witches exchange unsure and hesitant looks. Before Adneus Bane can reassure his students, one of them chants.
Professor Bane in sync with his students shifts his eyes to Amisha Jeet who has the palm of her hand over the dry leaf. Her eyes are shut and her fingers curl in a bit.
"Revelio, revelio," she starts, her voice growing more confident with every word. "Revelio!" The leaf bursts into flames, and a Luxine witch standing near Amisha gasps.
"Fantastic!" Professor Bane claps with an impressed look on his face. "Now, everyone."
One by one before everyone is doing it, the witches chant and the leaves burst into flames. The professor walks around the room, judging the burning leaves.
"You, on the left side." Professor Bane points to Amisha and with a confused look she joins the Luxines. Next he points to Zoe Argent, then Noah Woods, Aileen Dred until he has fourteen witches join the Luxine witches.
"Now pair up."
Lucas and Noah exchange a nod and Zoe looks at the girl who had gasped and sends her an assuring smile.
"Now these will be your pairs in this class until next semester. By then, Luxine witches will be just witches. You should be all caught up by then." Professor Bane walks over to the blackboard at the front of his classroom and leans against the desk that sits not far away.
"Can someone tell me, what the spell revelio does?"
A tanned hand shoots up in the air, and the professor raises an eyebrow before pointing to the girl. "Yes, Miss Queen?"
"Kingsley. My name's Sierra Kingsley," she corrects, not trying to even mask the unimpressed look on her face.
"Off course, my apologies," he replies with a sincere smile. "So Miss Kingsley, can you tell me what the purpose of the spell revelio is?"
"The spell revelio reveals our magic and our control over it. For example, by giving us specific instructions to make it burst into flames, you are testing our concentration and ability to control our magic. Some people add water to their leaves rather than lighting it on fire. Whereas, some flames are bigger than others. If a flame is too large and out of control, that would tell you that we don't have enough control over our powers yet especially when we don't have knowledge on the spell."
"Fantastic! Now everyone take your seats."

"What classes do you guys have?" Noah asks, joining Lucas, Sierra and Minerva in the lounging room. The lounging room is covered in silver and green and Noah wonders how much the interior designer must have charged for the awe-inspiring room. There are bean bags, couches, tables and a large heater stuck to the wall.
Lucas passes Noah a blue bean bag and the boys look up at the girls who choose to sit on the couch facing the window that overlooks the forest. Noah can't fathom why they would choose such a dreary view, especially since it is dark already. Even though classes had just finished and it isn't even six yet, it looks like it is eleven at night. It did look a bit spooky, but the girls didn't seem even a bit bothered by it.
"I've got Divination, Craft of Controlling, Magical Arts, History of Witches, Incantations and Magical Ethics." Sierra says, without having to look at her timetable. She knows that it had been a good idea to memorise it, especially since she knows that she is bound to misplace it somewhere.
Luke looks almost freaked out once he realises that she had memorised her subjects by her heart.
"Wait, isn't Divination like crystal ball predictions and crap?" Luke questioned, looking down at his timetable. "So that's something a Seer witch should have right? But I don't have it."
"Divination isn't about predicting anything. Where on Earth did you get that from?" Minerva replies, looking at Luke as if he had grown another head.
Luke deadpans, "Harry Potter, duh."
"Uh, no? Divination is like harvesting memories. You can view them, manipulate them and create them. It's about the study and practice of that. Which is why, I, a controller Witch have to take it," Sierra explains, gesturing wildly.
"Right. So everyone basically has the same subjects besides their specialising classes?" Luke looks at his friends with amazement.
"Yeah. Healer witches have to take Botany and Potions. Summoner witches like Minerva take necromancy and Spiritual Studies, controller witches take Divination and Craft of Controlling. Noah has to take Elemental Studies and Introduction to Bending because he's a Bender and also healing papers, cause you know, and you have to take Astrology and Precognition Practises cause you're a Seer witch and all."
Luke looks at Sierra like she is an encyclopaedia. "What about Consumer witches?"
"They don't have a specialisation class. They just need to control their powers and usually a professor helps them do that. It's almost like independent study." Luke nods in understanding.
"Who do you guys have in your dorms?" Noah asks as he catches sight off two of his dorm mates leaving the lounge.
"I've got Theodore Barclay, Apollo Von Stein, Zale whose last name is a mystery to me, Robin Heliot, and I don't know the other dude's name. He's a bit moody," Lucas answers, looking like he doesn't see himself being chummy with his dorm mates.
"I have Sierra, Zoe, Devina Harris and Evanora Wells," Minerva replies.
Sierra furrows her eyebrows and looks around the lounge. "Where is Zoe anyways?"
"Maybe she's in the other lounges. There's like five other lounges," Luke suggests, shrugging dismissively.
"The Academy is quite big, she might just be exploring," Noah adds.
The door opens and in walks Zoe, laughing at something Day had said. Zoe instantly notices the friends she had made today and waves to them. She looks at Day and tugs him to them before stopping once she notices the look on his face.
"What is it?" she asks with furrowed eyebrows.
Day looks back at Zoe with a calculating look. "I'm not sure. I'll see you later, the boys are having a soccer game soon. Goodnight." With a soft kiss on her hair, Day turns around and leaves. Zoe lets out a defeated sigh and walks over to the group seated by the window.
"He doesn't like us, does he?" Sierra asks bluntly, choosing not to beat around the bush.
"No! That's not it. They're just having a soccer match right now, so he's gonna go and join them," Zoe explains, not wanting them to think Day of as arrogant or rude.
"Soccer? Now?" Sierra asks, looking outside at how dark and cold it is.
"Boys," Minerva drawls sarcastically and rolls her eyes. Luke and Noah let out a protest even though they wouldn't have minded a game of soccer right now.

Initially Day had regretted wearing shorts and a shirt. The wind is strong, and the aftermath of rain and snow still lingers in the air. Orion, who is docked in track pants and a jacket, had told him that it was suicidal but then Day never handled orders really well. Determined to prove Orion wrong, Alec and Day played soccer in the middle of winter wearing shorts and a polo shirt. Suicidal, indeed. Yet three hours later when the Magical Arts professor rushed out of the castle and hushed the group inside, the boys laughed and did little protest before abiding.
Instantly, warmth engulfs Day as he steps through the door. Despite his body welcoming the heat, it really doesn't help when his shirt is sticking to his chest due to sweat. He pulls the neckline of his shirt back and forth in hopes of cooling down. He walks through the lounge, ruffles Zoe's hair and walks towards the stairs that leads to the dorm rooms. Before he turns around the corner of the stairway, Day grabs the back of the shirt and roughly pulls it over his head.
He enters the dorm room followed by Orion and then Alec. He figures the other boys must have stayed behind in the lounge room. Day also makes a mental note to check out the other lounge rooms. This one leads to their dorm rooms, and he has yet to find out where the others lead to.
Once the door is closed, Day bunches up his shirt in his hand and uses it to dry himself before chucking it into a hamper near his bed.
"I dibs the shower first," Alec states, grabbing his clothes. Before Alec can make his way towards the bathroom, Day rushes into it, shutting the door behind him.
"YOU FUCKING WANKER!" Is the last thing Day hears as the shower turns on and drowns everything out.
