The Arrival

Lydia woke to a jolt.

The machine was rocking, and not in a relaxing, swishing water kind of way. It was creaking and clunking at every move and you could of sworn it was falling apart.

Lydia hauled herself of the seat, cringing as her shoes met the the brittle wooden floor. The machine had not survived the journey well.

She made her way over to the window, careful to avoid the nails sticking out of the floor, or the wires hanging from the what was a pristine white roof. As she reached the windows, she was awestruck at the deep red hills of sand for miles and the scorching sun piercing through the thick glass windows. "That's insane" she whispered to herself. Lydia tried to stand on her toes to see further, but something stung with pain as she did so. She pulled in a sharp breath, and looked down to her ribcage where the pain was coming from. She gasped, watching the blood ooze out of her skin. There was a deep cut from where the seatbelt had been, and the skin around it was rough and pinkish from being rubbed against. She clutched her wound tightly, pressing against it ever so slightly, trying to stop the bleeding.

"Argh!" She cried out in pain, stumbling backwards onto the once perfect leather seat. She ripped off the bottom of her shirt and wrapped it around her mid section. She laid back and closed her eyes once more, trying to escape the pain. She remained like this for many hours, drifting in and out of a restless sleep.

Lydia knew the machine was broken. There was no constant mechanical humming there once was. For days she had been limping around the machine, eating and sleeping and repeating. Eventually she would run out of food. Lydia would stare out of the circular window, sadness seeping into her broken soul, thinking of the time she left behind. Sometimes she would cry. Sometimes she would laugh, and other times she would cry out in anger to the man who put her there. It was an endless cycle.

But her Wound healed up, and she was running out of resources. Lydia needed to leave the machine.

She had nothing but a spare pair of clothing, a watch, water, and some food.
"Take a deep breath... Breath".She thought to herself. She was about to journey out into the wilderness. Lydia   Made her way to the door very carefully, scared the floor might break. She had already made a hole in it last week from stomping in fustration. She reached the large metal door and placed her cold hands on the big wheel lock. Slowly she turned it, and it began to spun itself.

The light came peeking through the small but growing gap in the door way. She covered her eyes, it was too bright! The door opened completely, revealing a landscape she only saw before through the window. Lydia took a deep breath, and stepped out of the machine.
