Prologue
Xaviar looked up at the sky. It was cloudy and fog covered the ground and surrounded the camp.
"Xaviar!" Hawk called, "We have visitors," Xaviar twitched an ear and padded toward the thorn entrance.
Hawk pushed the seven cats through the entrance and a tall brown cat spoke up. "I am Killer," he began, "And these are my followers," Claudia scooted her kits into the nursery and watched from the entrance of the den; Xaviar could tell that curiosity was booming through out the camp.
"I am here to join your Tribe and make it stronger... For I am the strongest cat you'll ever meet!" Killer boasted, puffing out his chest. Moon padded out and stood just behind Xaviar, and watched with narrowed eyes. "I don't trust him and his group of cats, Xaviar. They could be bad news," Moon whispered in Xaviar's ear. "The Tribe of Glittering Stars said nothing about them. No news is usually good news," he whispered back. Killer watched with glaring eyes, trying to hear the conversation.
"Usually it is, but this 'no news' thing may be bad!" She hissed in his ear, ears flat and eyes narrowed. "Moon, I am your leader and I will decide what to do," Xaviar growled, shooing her away with his tail.
"Killer, we might just need a few cats like yours, I will take you in but if you try anything mouse-brained, you and your group of cats are out," Xaviar announced.
A long silence passed through the camp until Xaviar finally spoke again, "Tomorrow we will test you and your cats' skills to see if you are good enough," Killer nodded but it didn't seem like he was really listening. "What is your Tribes name?" Killer asked, padding through the camp with his cats following.
"The Tribe of Rotting Skulls," Xaviar mewed, following him close behind. "Ah, perfect. This Tribe might be good enough for me to rule..." He muttered. "What?" Hawk hissed, sliding in front of him, blocking his way. "I said that the name is very creative," Killer sneered, pushing the deputy out of the way.
Moon pulled the leader back and scratched Xaviar's nose, "You fool! He is going to try to rule the Tribe!" But Xaviar refused to listen. He hissed, slashing at her, missing her by a whisker. "Moon! I do what I think is right! If The Tribe of Glittering Stars sends a dream to tell me it's wrong, I'll kick them out! But for now, stay out of it Moon. Stay. Out. Of. It." He spat at her, making Moon growl in protest. Xaviar gave her a look and she stomped away into her den.
Xaviar looked at Killer, "Don't mind her, she's just in a mood," Xaviar called to him as he checked out his den. He nodded and kept looking around, the rest of his gang looking at the nursery. Splash hissed and unsheathed her claws as a few of them tried to come in.
Hawk twitched an ear, "This isn't going to be good," he whispered into Moons ear. Moon shook her head with narrowed eyes, "Not good, not at all," They watched the new cats talk as they walked through the camp ground. Their fur stood on end.
Moon and Hawk's minds whirled. 'Something terrible is going to happen, I can feel it. Something very, very terrible...'
