18. Take A Hint

Alice's POV

I walked out of my house, dragging Luke behind me. It was the middle of the night, and I had decided to go to the beach. Stupid, I know, but I really wanted to feel the water around my ankles again. I had also decided that a little water therapy would probably help Luke, and dragged him along. Literally.

Luke groaned and sighed, wanting to go off in a corner and depress himself as well as everyone around him again. Thankfully, we had reached the beach before Luke could grab his hand out of my hold, and run upstairs like a ten year old who had just gotten dumped.

I sighed happily as I looked at the water in front of me, quickly taking my shirt off. I had another black bikini on. I tuned towards Luke, seeing him rolling his eyes. As I motioned for him to take his shirt off so that we could get in the water, he sighed heavily, and held his arms up.

For a few seconds, I just stood there, confused, but I soon understood what he wanted me to do. He wanted me to take his shirt off for him. Just the thought made my heart start beating faster and a blush to appear across the apples of my cheeks.

He looked at me intensely, and soon, I could see a smirk on his lips, his dimple appearing. He raised his eyebrows challengingly, as if he was daring me to do it. I was surprised at his sudden change in behavior, but I decided to accept the challenge, blushing and mentally cursing myself.

I walked closer to him, clearing my throat, and took in a deep breath. I could see him biting his lip and holding in his laugh, looking straight at me. He knew exactly what he was doing, and he knew exactly what effect it was having on me. But of course, he lived to see me get nervous, or not back down from something I would usually not do. He was evil that way.

I looked away from, gulping, and put my hands on the bottom of his shirt. As I started to pull it upwards, I could feel my heart starting to pound faster and faster, the stupid blush on my cheeks probably getting more prominent.

"What are you looking at, Lissy? I'm right here.", said Luke, a smirk clear in his voice.

I took a deep breath in, preparing my abnormally fast heart, and looked at him. He was smirking, his eyes twinkling as he continued to stare at me. Not being able to take it anymore, I pulled the shirt up with all my strength, and I see his surprised face emerging from beneath the black material.

I ran towards the water, not looking back. My cheeks were still burning, my heart thundering inside my chest. I could hear Luke laughing behind me, and soon, he was right beside me, grabbing my wrist.

He smirked as he saw me avoiding his eyes, and said, "That was fun back there, huh?" He leaned closer until his mouth was right by my ear. "We should try it again sometime."

A shiver ran down my spine as I felt his cold breath against my ear. Did he live on mints or something? Why was his breath so cold?

I cleared my throat, pulling him towards the water, desperate to distract him. Why was he acting so flirty? I mean, he was flirty all the time, but he had never done anything like this before. Except for when we were in the janitors closet, but I didn't want to think about that.

Soon, our feet were in the cool water, and delight rushed through me. The sea and the stars meant the absolute world to me, and being in their presence made me feel comforted. As if a pair of warm, strong arms had wrapped me in an embrace, protecting me from all sorts of evil. And being in both of their presence at the same time was my ultimate depression getaway.

"I needed to tell you something.", Luke said, both of us sitting down in the sand.

I looked up at the stars and nodded at him to continue, the lapping of the water around my feet making me sleepy.

"I wanted to tell you about the kind of girls I like.", he said. "Remember how you asked me once, and I didn't reply?"

Suddenly, all of my attention was on him, my heart starting to beat faster. Once again, I nodded, making him continue.

"I like girls who are nice but still completely bada*s.", he whispered, staring at the sea.

"Mhm. And?", I questioned.

"They should understand me for who I am, and never judge me."

I nodded, continuing to stare at the stars.

"If they have chocolate brown, thick hair, even better!", he continued, making me gulp.

Once again, I just nodded, looking away. I didn't really wanna hear him talk about his future girlfriend, who was probably not me.

"They should absolutely love the beach, just like I do.", he said.

I could feel his gaze on the side of my head, but I continued to look up, afraid that he would see the sadness in my eyes if I looked at him. My brain continuously reminded me that I wasn't going to be his one and only, and my heart was breaking. Why was he doing this? Didn't he know that I couldn't bear to think of him with someone else? That he was hurting me?

For the third time in the span of one hour, he grabbed my wrist, making me finally look at him. Once again, he was smirking, as if he was enjoying making me suffer. He leaned closer to me, his face barely two inches from mine, making my eyes widen. What the heck was he doing?

"And girls who can't take a hint. Girls who don't realize that their best friend is describing them.", he said. His eyes fell on my lips, and I could feel my breath getting caught in my throat. "Girls who don't know how bad their best friend wants to kiss them."

My eyes were wide, all of the pieces falling in their places. He continued to stare at my lips, his own a few centimeters away from mine.

And with a single move, his lips were on mine. Again.

DONEEE! A slightly less heartbreaking chapter, because I don't want you all to die from heartbreak! Also, anyone else remembering Levi's smirks and Zoe's constant blushing? XD Hope you enjoyed it! Love you guys! Peace out!
