Personality: Umiko is a loud mouthed gal. She has a tendency to be vulgar and isn't afraid to smack a few heads in if she needs to. She is an extremely social girl and likes being around people. With her s/o, Umiko will be kind and warm. She will treat them well and with respect. Umiko will also tease them but in a playful manner that isn't meant to be harmful. Umiko is also kind, she is willing to help bring up others when one else will or even if it's believed that they deserve such kindness. Because of this she somehow earned the nickname "Big Sis" by her fellow classmates. Umiko doesn't mind it though. But whenever Umiko nervous or scared, she gets really quite and doesn't speak.

Umiko grew up pretty normally. Her mother worked as a nurse while her father was a strong businessman. She had no sibling making her the only child. Her parents due to their work hours, were not home as often as they liked but managed to make time for their little girl. Once they took a trip to the aquarium and that's when it happened. Umiko's love for sea life started there. She was always so fascinated by the creatures that lived in the seas and wanted to learn more about them. At the point it was obvious what she wanted to do. Umiko pretty happy.  That's when it started. Umiko's mother began to emotional abuse her daughter. She would do it whenever she felt Umiko got out of line. There were also times when it got physical. Umiko never told anyone. She desperately wanted to tell her dad but her mother kept the two from seeing each other. Umiko's mother made sure that her daughter's mental health weaken which made her easy to control over.
Then her mother got passed away from a sickness shortly after Umiko finished middle school. Her father went into early retirement after his wife's death to help himself cope and to be there for his daughter. Umiko ended up telling him what her mother did to her. He was saddened that he didn't help her out when he could have. They have been with each ever since then. When Umiko got approached by Hope's Peak, she was a bit skeptical but eventually started to go to school there.
