Thursday afternoon

"Peridot, calm down." Pearl said, her voice lacking much breath.

"Where are you?" I asked, glancing up at the clock in the lobby.

"I'm at the school. I just finished practice and I'm carrying my things to Opal's car." She explained.

"Well, while you've been finalizing plans to go to a party, I've been arguing with that clod Lauren!" Pearl was quiet for a moment, I could only hear her shifting her bags.

"Lauren?"

"The receptionist at the hospital! She refuses to let me see Lapis!" I heard Pearl drop something and curse under her breath. "How many bags are you carrying?"

"Um..." She replied. "My Violin case, my backpack, and my satchel." I sighed.

"It's called a handbag, you clod." I glanced up at the clock again. "Did we have any homework in Calculus?" I asked quietly.

"No, but we have a test tomorrow." Pearl reported. "Why didn't you go to school if you were just going to sit in the lobby of the hospital all day?"

"Because I assumed I'd be allowed to see Lapis." I grumbled.

"You can't just sit in the hospital lobby all weekend. Here, I don't want to go to the party alone. Will you come with me?" Pearl asked.

"Um.... fine." I sighed, hanging up. Maybe Lapis wanted to see me as much as I wanted to see her.

Lapis's pov

"I want to see Peridot." I said angrily, crossing my arms.

"Lapis, Dr. Maheswaren said it wasn't a good idea!" Mother protested.

"But I want to know why she was here. What reason could she possibly have to see me? What gives Peridot of all people a right to visit me?" I asked.

"Listen, honey, Peridot was just worried-"

"No, she wasn't!" I yelled. "All Peridot cares about is being in Jasper's little crew so she can be popular!" Mother glared at me.

"You should be glad she came to check on you. The doctors had to physically remove her from the room. Even Jasper was reluctant to come. And Tiger's Eye only cane to pick up Jasper. If you're this much of a bitch on a daily basis it's no wonder you have no friends!" She stood up quickly and left, slamming the door behind her.

I stared at my feet in disbelief, alone with my thoughts.
