Lapis's pov

Peridot didn't know what she was talking about. I had plenty of friends! I fumed as I walked into my first class the day after the dinner party, algebra.

I looked around the room, wondering which of my friends I could sit next to. I usually sat with either Jasper's gang or a group of fairly popular girls. I didn't really know any of the girls 's names, but I could make by.

Looking around the room, however, it looked like every seat next to someone was filled; whether it was with books, bags, or people's feet. I didn't really know anyone enough to ask them to move, and when I walked past they gave me strange looks as if I didn't belong in their class, so I resigned myself to sitting in the corner of the room next to my cousin, Sapphire.

"Hello Lapis. How are you feeling after Peridot's insults?" She smiled briefly, but stared ahead stoically as ever.

"I'm feeling fine. I have plenty of friends." I looked down at our homework assignment for the week, trying to focus on finding X.

"The girls you sit with at lunch don't count as friends." I opened my mouth. "Because you can't name any of them. You never sit with them in class, you never talk in the hallways, you've got no one." Dammit. How did she always know what people were going to say?

"Yeah? Well what've you got?" I sulked.

"I have friends. People I've known since grade school. And I have a girlfriend. That's much more than you've got."

"Yeah? Well my mother doesn't hate me. I didn't have to run away to Ruby's house." The air got cold, ans Sapphire started to quietly cry. Her cries got louder and she ran from the room in tears.

"Nice going, Lapis." One of the girls snickered. A couple of guys offered to go comfort her, but the teacher said no.

"She has to calm down by herself." He said firmly. "Trust me. I have a daughter. Well, now she's finishing college and she's nine months pregnant, but..." Mr. Stone stopped talking, embarrassed. "Uh... turn to page 394!"

At the end of the day, after swim practice, I got into my mother's car with Jasper.

"All day? I'm so sorry. She knows she can always come stay here, right? Of course, I'll see you tomorrow." My mother hung up the phone and glared at me through the rearview mirror.

"Really Lapis? Of all the cruel, heartless things you could've said you decided to kick her when she's down?"

"Woah, what happened?" Jasper asked, all sweaty from football practice.

"Lapis made your cousin cry and she's been in the Headmistress's office all day." Jasper looked at me, 'ooooooo' ing.

"Shut up Jasper." I crossed my arms.

"Lapis Ophelia Lazuli! You are grounded!"

Random fact of the day: Opal's middle name is Lynn, Pearl's is Marie, Jasper's is Elizabeth, Sardonyx doesn't have one because, "My daughter will be too spectacular for a middle name", Ruby's is Anne, Sapphire's is Lisa, Rose's is Amelia, Rainbow's is Lily and I haven't thought about any others :D
