Thirty- Serving up Secrets (p2)

Peridot's pov

After several rude and insensitive comments, I decided to formally join the conversation to mediate the peace.

"Alright, I've formatted a contingency plan just in case this very situation accured;" I began, straightening my back. Lazuli scoffed.

"You need to speak actual English, Peridot." I groaned and slammed the table.

"Listen, I think I finally understand what everyone says about you." She recoiled.

"What does everyone say about me?" I smirked and chuckled, something I don't do often.

"That you have no regard for the feelings of others." Lapis growled.

"What are you talking about? Is this that garbage from earlier? I don't want your garbage!" I chuckled again, a chuckle which quickly became a cackle.

"You know what? Fine, be like that!" I stood on my chair, clearing my throat. "World, I confessed my love to Lapis Lazuli tonight and she thought I was lying! And if I said anything remotely close to what I said earlier, it would be a lie." I stepped down. "I think it would be best for you to find someone else to prosecute." As I walked to the door, I heard Amethyst 'Ooooooo' followed by two sets of footsteps running my way.

"Is that your little nerd group?" Jasper challenged.

"No." I smiled, not looking back. "It's my squad."

"P Dizzle, that was awesome!"

"Peridot, we're so proud of you!"  My friends marveled in awe of my evident greatness.

"I know! I feel so big!" I grabbed my Cheesy Chaaaaps from Amethyst, who pouted. "Now what do I do?"

"You celebrate! Girl, you ain't tied down no more! Figure out your type of man!" Amethyst said, stretching out on my bed.

"Umm, I like girls."

"Really Amethyst, first me and now Peridot? You really need to learn more about your friends!" Pearl scolded.

"Hey, if you guys are so bent on  people knowing that, why don't you date eachother?" Pearl and I looked at eachother.

"...I think I need some alone time..." Pearl was about to agree, when shouting broke out downstairs.

Opal pov

"What do you mean you're a lesbian?"

"I've tried to tell you I have a girlfriend, but you cared too much about setting me up with a guy!" Sapphire yelled at her mother, who had reentered the room. For the first time, I noticed Sugilite had been making her way slowly around the table, ignored by everyone whose eyes were transfixed on the altercation.

I scooted into Pearl's seat, making room for her to sit in mine.

"You're not secretly a lesbian too, right?" My mother asked quietly through the side of her mouth.

"I'm dating Sugilite."

"That's cool, you can't come home  pregnant." I sighed in relief, glad we weren't the ones screaming at eachother.

"Would anyone like some coffee?" Mrs. Diamond offered, standing up and walking towards the kitchen Lapis's mother and the Quartzes mumbled things in agreement and rushed into the other room.

"I'm gonna get coffee." Mom said, leaving.

"Well look at this, a serious lack of adults who care!" I said, straining to be heard over the argument.

"Opal, I'm done with your attitude." My father said.

"Then leave, you're Damn good at that." I grabbed Sugi's hand and led her to the main foyer.

"Why are they still holding hands?" My idiot father whispered to Red, who was too busy screaming with Crystal.

"Sard." I sat down next to Sardonyx on the stairs.

"She went upstairs." She sulked.

"That's weird, because the person  I was looking for is right here." She glanced up at me.

"What do you mean?"

"I'm sorry, that was uncalled for. I do really like you, it's him that I don't like." Sardonyx nodded.

"He's not the best dad in the world." She agreed.

"Can we just put this behind us?" I asked.

"Sure. Let's start over." She smiled.

"Opal? I think we should go soon." Pearl advised, suddenly appearing behind me.

"Gah! You can't scare me like that!"

"Well apparently, she can." Amethyst replied smugly.

"Alright, I'll get mom." I stood up and cautiously stepped into the dining room, ducking to avoid someone's heel.

"This is crazy!" Rose panicked. I looked to my left to see her huddled against the wall.

"Why don't you go talk to Pearl?" I suggested, venturing further into the room.

Rainbow and Yellin were talking with smirks on their faces, glancing at me as I passed them. Red and Crystal's argument had escalated to the two moms throwing objects at eachother while Ruby and Sapphire tried to calm them down. Lapis was screaming at Jasper's dad, while the splochy-tanned brute was nowhere to be seen.

"Mom!" I yelled into the kitchen,

"Which mother?" I sighed, and rolled my eyes.

"Tahitia!" My mother came foreward a moment later, a half empty glass of wine in her hand.

"Yes Pearl?"

"It's Opal. How drunk are you?" I asked, looking her in the eye.

"I'm not drunk, I've only had a few!" I sighed again.

"How many glasses of wine has she had?"

"Several!" I shook my head.

"We're leaving. Come on." I grabbed to wine glass from her hand and set in on the table.

"I can't drive, Opal."

"No, I'm driving." I dragged her through the house, Pearl joining me when I got to the foyer.

"Was there wine?" She inquired.

"Yes." I replied through gritted teeth. I helped my mother into the passenger seat before getting in the car myself and driving away.

"What's wrong?" Pearl asked, concerned.

"This is gonna be all over the news tomorrow."
