Peridot's pov

Pearl finally arrived with her lunch, a small salad she had prepared at home. I, of course, had a lunch perfect for any developing mind such as mine. A peanut butter sandwich with bananas and pretzels.

"How can you eat that?" Pearl asked disgusted, staring at my sandwich.

"This? A peanut butter-banana-pretzel sandwich is the perfect lunch! It's sweet, salty, and savory!" Pearl shuddered as Amethyst sat down across from us with the hot lunch, a chicken patty.

My mother had let this school go.

"I dunno, Peri, sounds like something a two year old would eat." She had spread every available topping onto her party and was shoving it disgustingly into her mouth.

"Amethyst, what happened to your eye?" Pearl asked. Amethyst looked up, and as her bangs fell out of her face I could see her left eye was bruised and swollen with a cut right above it.

"Aw, this? It ain't nothin, just Jasper." Amethyst said nonchalantly, spitting food at Pearl with each word.

"...Right. Jasper is clearly an issue that needs to be stopped." I adjusted my glasses and ran my fingers through my wild blonde hair. "I propose we-"

"Peridot." I turned around.

"Oh. What do you want?" I asked, glaring at Lazuli and the poor, unfortunate soul she had dragged along.

"To sit here. Yellen leaked some information about Mangano and the popular girls are being mean." I scoffed.

"You're joking, right?" I chuckled. "You of all people are having trouble with mean girls?" I broke into laughter. Lapis narrowed her eyes.

"I thought you were going to help." I wiped a tear from my eye.

"Listen up, Lazuli. You broke my heart in the worst way possible, but you know what? I don't care. Because I have two best friends who actually care about my feelings, and they're not clods like you!" Pearl placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Peridot, we should at least let them sit here-"

"There's plenty of empty tables."
