Thirty Five- It's a Senior Thing
Opal's pov
The next day, Sugilite, Sardonyx and I walked through the halls as sisters. We had agreed not to let any drama phase us or stop us from being our best selves.
We were walking into the cafeteria for lunch when Sardonyx held her arm in front of me.
"Is that Rainbow?" She asked, pointing across the room to where my opponent-and frankly, enemy- stood on a table checking her makeup in a compact mirror.
On my right side, Sugilite sighed.
"What's this Barbie doll doin now?" She asked, putting a hand on her hip.
"Whatever, let's just ignore her. She's probably throwing a party or something." I said, leading my friends to our table.
"Alright gals, my mom. Has made us. Bento Boxes!" Sardonyx exclaimed excitedly, passing us each a small box full of rice and other delicacies.
"Mm, this looks delicious! I can't wait to dive in!" I said, grabbing the chopsticks. Much to my food-loving heart's dismay, Rainbow called for attention before I could reach my meal.
"Attention? Excuse me, could I have your attention? Thank you." Rainbow called, shushing the room almost as fast as Mrs. Diamond.
"Ugh. I told you s he was up to somethin."
"Now, as you all know, I'm running for student body president this year, again." She paused after again, hoping for sympathy. "I just wanted to say a few words about my Opponent, Opal Baroque." I sighed.
"Of course she had to drag me into it." I said grouchily.
"Opal, don't get involved!" Sardonyx warned, but it was too late, because I was already climbing on top of the table.
"Listen Rainbow. Whatever opinions you have on me are between us. Not the entire student body. If you have an issue we can talk." A few people applauded, a couple shouting 'Yeah Opal!' Rainbow chuckled.
"But this deserves to be public knowledge." She continued. "After all, everyone deserves to know what happened after your sister's little accident." I bit my lip, ready to race across the room and slap that makeup off her smug face.
"That's enough you two!" Alexandrite said firmly, suddenly appearing in front of my table.
Hmm, I didn't see her come in. It's like she's only there when someone needs her.
"Keep the personal attacks between you two, Rainbow, or I'll be forced to go straight to the Headmistress! I don't know how you bribed the lunch monitors to turn a blind eye but this is inappropriate!" She turned around, holding out a hand to help me down.
"Thanks, Alexandrite. I don't think I could've handled this without you." I said warmly.
"I'm used to dealing with the press." She said smoothly.
"Lace, grab the camera! We're interviewing!" Came the voice of a certain pigtailed reporter.
"Speak of the devil." Imperial and her camera girl, 'Lace', skidded to a stop right beside us,
"Are we good?"
"You're good! Rolling!"
"I'm here right after the incident with Senior class presidential nominees Opal Baroque and Alexandrite. Opal, what do you have to say about the attacks?"
That's weird, she didn't say Alexandrite's last name. Come to think of it, I've never heard it...
"Well, I think it was very unprofessional for Rainbow to stand on the tables and personally attack me. She mentioned a very personal and emotional event and I now hold even less respect for her." I took a deep breath, praying that I'd be safe from any more media attacks.
"Alright then. Alexandrite, you reportedly stopped the altercation. What can you tell us about that?"
"I'll be speaking to the Headmistress at once regarding her behavior." Alexandrite answered with her signature poker face and left.
"Back to you." The girl holding the camera lowered the device, and Imperial sighed in relief.
"Thanks for not attacking me." I said.
"No problem. Yellow D said our previous interview was too biased, but it was only because Rainbow and Yellen gave us a tip. And a bribe." I gasped.
"You mean Rainbow bribed you?"
"Yeah. Won't help her win the election though, most of the people we interview say they're voting for you. I'm voting for you."
"Uh Imp? You're a junior." Sardonyx reminded.
"So? I don't even know who's running for my grade." She and Lace ran off once they saw Rainbow and her friends leaving the cafeteria, begging for an interview.
"Opal, do you think Amethyst is having this much trouble?" Sugilite asked.
"I hope not."
(A/N) Sorry for taking so long, but I have good news and bad news! Good news for me. Bad news for you. School starts Wednesday so updates might be slower, but that's going to help me stretch it out to October. But, longer updates means less of those same-day chapters y'all hate. Be prepared for at least two more chapters about that day.
Fact of the day:In all the panic of going back to school, I forgot to add a fact! Comment with what you'd like to see!
