Sixteen-Aftermath

Opals pov

"Don't worry Sugilite, I'll be fine." I assured, grabbing my keys from my locker.

"But Opal, I'm just looking out for you! What something happens like with Rainbow?" She asked, whispering the very end. I rolled my eyes.

"Like what?"

"Like what happened in the locker room when you kissed Rainbow that day?" I froze.

"I've never kissed Rainbow. Even if something like that happened, Rainbow forces herself onto me. I told you what happened when I went to her house?" She sighed and nodded.

"I'm just... protective. Yeah, that's all." I chuckled.

"It's my dad, Sugilite. What's gonna happen? Look, my father should meet my best friend, so come with me and then I'll drop you back here afterward." She agreed and went off to find Amethyst while I walked to the car.

"Get in the back." I told Pearl, who was sitting in the passenger seat reading.

"What? But why?" She asked, placing a ribbon between the pages.

"Because Sugilite and Amethyst are coming with us to see Dad." It was still weird to call this man who I barely knew, "Dad".

"I'm here!" Sugilite called, lightly jogging over to the car. Behind her, struggling to run after her, was her sister Amethyst.

"I can see that," I giggled. Amethyst, who had obviously just come from gym class, had her hair up in a high ponytail and was wearing her gym clothes. "Did she just kidnap you from gym?" I asked, getting into the car.

"Nah, I just didn't wanna change." She said lazily, lying back in my car. She turned to Pearl, who reeled back. "Hey P, what's up?" Pearl held up her book, and Amethyst backed away.

We drove for about fifteen minutes before we got to his house. He stood in the doorway with Red, smiling when Pearl bolted out of the backseat to escape Amethyst.

"Hey girls!" He said, walking over to us.

"Dad, this is Sugilite. My best friend." I said, introducing the two. She shook his hand suspiciously. "And that's her sister Amethyst." I jabbed my thumb towards where Amethyst leaned against my car, basking in the sunlight.

"Well, I'm glad to meet you girls. Sardonyx is out back practicing her technique, and Ruby's got another friend over, but-"

"Wait, you're Ruby's dad?" Amethyst asks, sitting up.

"Yes I am, are you two friends? She's never mentioned you..."

"Oh." Amethyst crossed her arms and looked down. I looked back and forth between her and the house but remained quiet.

"Anyhow, come in! I'll make some snacks." Red said, ushering us inside.Their kitchen was large and spacious, and Ruby and whoever she was talking to were echoing from just the other room.

"Wow, the architecture of this kitchen is simply glorious! You simply must tell me all about it!" Pearl marveled, scaring Red.

"Eh, that's boring. The important thing about a kitchen is obviously the food!" Amethyst said, leaning back against the stainless steel fridge that we could never afford.

"Actually, Amethyst," I started, pushing her off the fridge. "I'd like to think the most important thing about a kitchen is the people in it and the memories they've shared!" Red smiled approvingly, and Amethyst grumbled.

"I need that on a magnet... or a plaque..." Red walked on to another room, leaving us alone.

"Hey, where did your dad go?" Sugilite whispered, nudging me. I sighed.

"Who the hell cares? He isn't bothering me."  Sugilite shifted uneasily, and I walked over to where Pearl and Amethyst were talking quietly. Well, Pearl was being quiet.

"Opal," Pearl said, noticing  I'd arrived. "Do you think we should go find someone?" She glanced around the empty kitchen.

"Yeah, that sounds good." I said. "Let's split up." The two younger girls nodded. Amethyst went off in the direction that we had heard Ruby earlier, in search of the redhead. Pearl went upstairs to see if anyone was in their bedroom.

"Are you okay?" Sugilite asked, placing her hand on my shoulder, "You're acting... different." I sighed.

"I'm fine. Let's just go."

Amethyst's pov

I walked through the house looking for Ruby.

"I can't believe her!" I said to myself. "I thought she was my only friend, but even she turned her back on me!" I stopped in front of a closet. There was giggling and whispers coming from inside. I put my ear up to the door.

"Shh, Ruby! I can hear someone!" One voice said.

"Aw, don't worry babe." Came Ruby's voice. I heard some murmurs.

"Wait a minute..." I muttered. I threw the door open to find Ruby and some chick with Blue hair eating each other's faces off! They noticed me standing there, and gasped, pulling away.

"Oh, this is just too good!" I snickered, running away to find someone.

"Amethyst, wait!" Ruby called after me. I didn't stop, running until I found a door with noise behind it.

"Aha-oh come on!" I rolled my eyes. Who the hell puts a door with no windows leading outside? The two finally caught up with me, out of breath.

"Amethyst," Ruby panted, "Don't do this. You're better than this!" I scoffed.

"What do you know about me? All I know is that you betrayed me!" I yelled. The other girl looked at Ruby.

"Ruby? What did You do?" She asked.

"I-That's not important!" She stammered.

"Not important? Not important?" I asked, as it began to rain lightly. "Of course it's important! You were my only friend, and you completely abandoned me! You call that unimportant?"  She opened her mouth to speak. "No, I'm done! Just stay the hell away from me!"
