Seventy Two-Save The Date
Pearl's pov
"Happy Valentines Day!"
"If by that you mean 'happy celebration of consumerism', then yes." Opal glared at Peridot.
"Lighten up for once. It's Valentines Day. Let me have this." Peridot sighed.
"Pearl, you really should reconsider this whole ordeal. Perhaps we can-"
"No, Peridot, stop trying to avoid this. It'll be fun." Opal insisted. Peridot growled. She looked lovely, dressed in a green blazer with a red bow tie. She noticed my staring and we both blushed.
"Ahem. You look... Exceptionally well today." I blushed, and straightened my pale pink dress.
"Thank you." We were currently standing in the Plaza of the local shopping mall, waiting for Ruby and Sapphire to join us. The mall was fairly close to Crystal Prep, and many students could be found there on any day of the week. Valentines Day was certainly no exception, in fact it seemed that even more students were gathered there.
"Hey guys!"
"Hello, everyone." Ruby and Sapphire greeted. It had been Opal's idea to go on a triple date, so to speak, and Sapphire had agreed.
"There you guys are! Why don't we go eat first?" Everyone agreed, and we entered the restaurant closest to us.
"Everything sounds delicious," Sapphire commented once we had settled in and read the menu. "I don't know what to choose!" Ruby chuckled.
"Why don't you let me order?" Sapphire giggled.
"No offense, but I'd prefer something other than the hot wings."
"Why don't we split a pizza? What do you guys want?" Opal suggested. A chorus of suggestions rang around the table, and we came to the conclusion that cheese was the safest option.
"Hello ladies, happy Valentines Day. I can see that you chose gals before pals." The waiter chuckled. "Anyhow, what can I get for these best friends?" He asked. The six of us looked at eachother precariously, before bursting into a fit of laughter.
The waiter's face fell.
"What's so funny?" He asked.
"You... Said... Best friends!" Sugilite explained between laughs.
"Oh, I get it now!" The man exclaimed. "You're waiting for your boyfriends!"
"Hey. We're gay genius." Ruby said. The man gulped.
I had never really thought about it before. I was, by definition, a Lesbian. I'd never been interested in a man for anything more than friendship. But hearing it verbally stated that I was a woman who was dating a woman sent shivers down my spine.
"I'm sorry. What can I get you ladies?" Opal ordered our pizza and three Sweetheart Shakes, chocolate milkshakes with whipped cream and heart-shaped sprinkles that came ready with two straws. The food was delicious and the shake was delightful, although sharing with Peridot was strange.
"Okay, now what?" Opal asked, once we had paid for the meal.
"We could see a movie?" Ruby suggested.
"Why bother? The only films playing will be stereotypical heterosexual loves stories designed to rake in the money from unoriginal males looking for a good date idea. Like I said, Valentines Day is a celebration of consumerism." Opal glared down at Peridot again.
"Thanks negative Nancy."
"I prefer promising Peridot. Now, why don't we have a unique experience?" Everyone thought for a moment.
"I've got it."
Five minutes later we were on a bus heading out of Beach City. There was a light snowfall which made me wonder what Sapphire could possibly have thought of.
"This is our stop." She said, pressing the button to alert the driver to stop.
"Uhh Sapphire? Why are we standing on the side of the road?" Opal asked.
"You'll see, come on!" She began to walk through the snow into the trees.
"Remind me not to trust any more of her ideas." Peridot grumbled as we followed Sapphire.
"Uh Saph? You know what you're doing?" Sugilite asked after about five minutes of walking through the snow.
"We're here!" Finally, we saw what Sapphire was so eager to show us. A large frozen over pond sat glimmering before us.
"Woah..."
"See? I used to ice skate here... It's been some time." Cautiously, we all stepped onto the pond and slid around in our boots for about two hours.
"Happy Valentines day, Pearl."
"Huh? But I thought you hated Valentines Day." Peridot sighed.
"Yeah, well..." She looked at me and blushed. "It's grown on me." I smiled and kissed her on the nose.
"Happy Valentines Day, Peridot."
