Seventy Three-Vacation Venture

Lapis's pov

If anything makes me need a vacation, it's vacations themselves.

Especially since Jasper had been flaunting around how she was fifteen now.

Jasper's birthday was February fourteenth, Valentines Day, which was about a month before mine. Of course ever since our parents had been in a relationship she'd taunted me about it. Especially during school vacation week.

Usually we'd go to the Bahamas for Winter break, and skiing in Vermont for spring break. That year, however, my mother wanted to do something different, so we went to our usual ski lodge in Vermont. Which really sucked because after a while winter of March weather, it had finally started to feel like April.

Even though we went skiing almost every year, Jasper still failed horribly at it, and had to take the instructor course. But that year, the usual old guy teaching the course had broken his foot and his seventeen year old son was teaching the course.

It was my mother's suggestion that I take the course for the first day, just because it had been too warm to ski the year before. I agreed, but only because I didn't want upset her. She was seven months pregnant now, and it was starting to become pretty obvious.

"Alright, my name is Jake. I'll be your skiing instructor." The group of mostly little kids with a few adults all chorused a greeting, but Jasper laid on the sap.

"Hiiii Jaaake." I gagged. As we sat in the lodge getting our gear ready, I could hear Jasper bragging about how 'she was fifteen now' and how she was more 'mature' than I was, which I could tell you was definitely not true. Unfortunately, I got stuck on the chairlift with the two of them. If overhearing the conversation was bad, sitting right beside them was worse. Jake sat in the middle, unfortunately, and tried his best to politely ignore her by asking me questions.

"So what's your name?"

"Lapis." I answered, not paying attention.

"Oh, so you're Jasper's sister she was talking about. You guys look..." His eyes shifted from Jasper's muscles to my petite frame. "Different."

"We're step sisters."

"I'm older!" Jasper interjected.

"When will you be fifteen?" He asked, looking me over once again.

"Next month." I replied, more focused on how long I had until we reached the top of the trail. Jake said a few more things that I blindly responded to, with Jasper adding her two cents every time. I still wasn't paying attention, I only snapped back to reality when he said, "You're pretty cute. Wanna get some soup later?"

"Uh... I'm definitely not interested. But I'm sure Jasper would be willing to go with you." By then we'd reached the top, so I began to ski away from the situation as fast as I possibly could.

I hated to leave the poor kid with Jasper, but better him than me.
