Pearl's pov

"Three... Two... One... Happy Birthday!" I uncovered my eyes to see just what I expected, my mother and Opal, along with Amethyst, Sugilite, and Peridot. Before me, Opal held a cake with Happy Birthday Pearl written in blue icing.

"Happy birthday Pearl!" Everyone shouted, making me smile.

"Thank you so much everyone!" I beamed. "Although it seems far too early to eat the cake. Shouldn't we at least wait until the others arrive?" Opal grinned and rolled her eyes.

"Did you forget, silly? Peridot's taking you out on a date today." I blushed, remembering Peridot's plans.

"I'm sorry."

"There's no time to be sorry!" Peridot exclaimed, grabbing my hand. "We have a bus to catch!"

I grabbed my purse and we rushed out the door. Opal began to ask a question that I didn't get to hear before Peridot had dragged me out the door.

Once we caught the bus and rode to the mall, Peridot and I sat down at a table near the fountain in the plaza.

"Alright Peridot, what fun surprises do you have in store?" I asked. Nervously, Peridot retrieved a tape recorder from her backpack.

"I'll admit, I... Uh... Received some assistance from Marc with this, but I thought you'd appreciate it. Ahem." She pressed play on the recorder and it began to play Ukelele music.

"Because you're now sitting here, I guess you already know, I am engulfed in fear, but I never will go, sometimes I think you're insane, but I guess I am too, anybody would be if they were blessed with courting you."

She finished her song and I applauded.

"Peridot, that's amazing!" She beamed.

"Really? I have another tape with a longer version of the song, and my voice is prerecorded!" She handed me a tape that she'd held in her hand.

"Thank you! I believe that Opal's radio has a tape player." Peridot blushed.

"You can always borrow my tape recorder."

"No, that's yours. I couldn't possibly." I smiled at her, and grabbed her hand tightly in mine. "Thank you. This has truly been the best birthday present I've ever received."

"M-may I give you another gift?" She asked, blushing.

"Of course."Standing on her tip toes, she planted a small kiss on my lips. "I think that gift might be better, however."
