Forty Eight- Shut Down

Opal's pov

It had been about a week since the elections. Things were running smoothly so far seeing as the school was in one piece and nobody was dead.

I had a free period because my Art teacher had to go pick up her son sick from daycare and she couldn't find a sub on such short notice, so I'd grabbed my things from my locker and was now randomly pacing the school.

I was in an empty hallway with only windows and was enjoying the colors of the fall foliage when my phone buzzed in my pocket.

"Huh?" The text was from Marc, who simply said AV room. Immediately.  I placed my phone in my pocket and started to walk to the AV room, curious as to why he could've texted me.

"Hey." I greeted, knocking on the doorjam of the room. Inside was not a pretty site.

Imp and Lace were hugging eachother, crying, in the center of the room. Marc stood by the white board trying to talk to Alexandrite about something. The other three members sat at their designated stations packing up knicknacks and, in one boy's case, attempting to scrape stickers off of computers. Headphones and other gear were scattered around the room along with lots of papers.

"What's going on?" I asked, walking over to Marc and Alexandrite. Marc looked at me.

"It would appear-"

"They're cutting our funding!" Imp shrieked through tears, making my head spin.

"Wait, what? Why?" Marc shook his head.

"It's for a number of reasons." He picked a piece of paper off his desk. "Ahem. Lack of interest and members, lack of relevance, lack of funding, lack of attention from staff, lack off-"

"I'm gonna stop you right there!" I interjected. "How much longer is that list?"

"Let's just say administration thoroughly researched the pros and cons." Marc said.

"This issue effects the majority of the school's population." Alexandrite said quietly.

"What can we do?" I asked.

"Absolutely nothing!" Imp cried. "I can't believe we lose our club!"

"This club gets me out of gym class!" The only girl I didn't recognize complained. Imp gasped.

"I don't have any classes with any of you! Just History with Lace!" Marc gulped and walked up to her.

"Imperial, I may never get this chance again. I love you. Will you go on a date with me?" He clamped his eyes shut. Imp gasped.

"I'd love to, but... I'm already dating Lace." Marc opened his eyes.

"What? For how long?'

"About a year," Lace said, chewing on a strand of Blue hair.

"We didn't want it to effect the relationship of the team," Imp explained. "But now there is no team!" Alexandrite pulled out her phone.

"There might be."

"What are you thinking?" I asked.

"There's a student Government meeting in ten minutes. I believe we might be able to change this if we act fast." I nodded.

"We can fix this."

"Come with me."

"What?" I asked.

"Come with me to the Student Government meeting. You're good with people and generally popular. They'll listen to you."

"Popular? I'm not popular." I protested.

"You were technically voted into office." Lace reminded.

"People are always greeting you in the halls." Marc added.

"And tons of people sit with you constantly." Imp stated. Alexandrite smiled.

"See?"

"I guess I do. Thanks Alexandrite."

"Please. Call me Alex."

(A/N) HERE. IT. IS. So, I know I've been busy lately and the story's actually a few days behind real time. But I plan in ten seconds when I publish this to have Kayleigh help me figure out Halloween costumes so check that out later.

Random Fact Of The Day: Opal's more popular than she lets on; she's easily just as popular as Rainbow is. However, she's so occupied with Pearl that she doesn't notice it.
