Eighty Seven-Em's Dilemma

Peridot's pov

I found out she was leaving when I walked in on her packing her bags.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Well, I have to go back to Michigan sometime." Em said, laughing.

"You're already leaving? But you just got here!" She was quiet. "You're not coming back, are you?" She sighed.

"No, Peridot. I'm not." I stepped closer to her.

"But what about Centi? What about me? You can't just abandon you daughters because you're too afraid to be held accountable for them!" Em looked at me.

"Peridot, I don't want to leave Centi more than I wanted to leave you."

"Then why are you leaving?" She sighed.

"I was only nineteen, and I was afraid that my life was already set out for me when I got pregnant. That's why I gave you to your mother. She was already doing so well with raising your sister and staying in school, I knew I'd never be able to keep up. I knew I'd have to move back to Michigan and I knew it would be better if you two were kept together. That's why Centi's here too." I took a moment to process what I was hearing.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"You and Yellen... you girls have the same father." I gasped. "I could never work up the courage to tell your mother-"

"I know." Shocked, Em and I both turned around to see Mother standing in the doorway, with a shocked Yellen by her side.

"Yellow, I-"

"It's okay, Em." Mother said quietly.

"But how did you figure it out?" Em asked.

"They both look and act so much like him sometimes." Mother replied. Her look became stern. "But Peridot's right. You should have taken responsibility for your actions and your children. If you don't want to raise your children then you don't need to see them." Em stepped back in shock. "I'm ready to take you to the airport whenever you're ready." Em turned to me.

"Peridot, my baby, I-"

"I don't want to hear it." She looked at me, scrambling for words. "Go!" She sighed, grabbed her bag, and turned back to me.

"I love you. I hope you decide to reach out to me someday." With her final statement she hung her head low and left to say her final goodbye to Centi.

"Are you okay?" Mother asked, approaching me.

"Yeah." For the first time since I was little, I wrapped my arms around her. "I love you, Mom."

(A/N) Another short one, but it's important.
