Eighty Nine-Dad
Opal's pov
"He's adorable. You really should think about seeing him Pearl." I said, pulling out of the Diamonds' driveway.
"Opal, I... I don't know." Pearl replied, looking out the window. I sighed, shaking my head.
"How about you, Amethyst?" I asked, looking at the girl in the rear view mirror.
"Eh. I'd like to meet the little man I guess." I rolled my eyes. The two were impossible to get talking.
After a minute or two of silence, I suddenly slammed on the brakes.
"Gah!"
"Opal what the hell?" Pearl and Amethyst kept scolding me until I yelled.
"So how was your night at Peridot's house?" They looked at me like I was a madman.
"You stopped the car to ask us a freakin question?" Amethyst asked. "Who does that?"
"I do, baby. C'mon." I started driving again, making sure that I didn't make any sudden stops again.
Once we got home, Amethyst and Pearl were more than happy to get out of the car. However, Pearl stopped dead in her tracks.
"Why is his car here?" She asked. I looked over and realized that the car I thought to have been Sugi's at first was in fact my father's.
"Good question." I slammed the car door behind me and raced into the house, where he was sitting calmly on the couch.
"What the hell Dad?" He looked up at me. "Why are you here when nobody's home?" I demanded.
"You're home now." I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever. How did you get in here?"
"Your mother gave me a key." He stood up. "Opal I need to talk to you."
"And what makes you think I wanna hear it?" I asked. I turned around to go upstairs.
"Opal I want you and Pearl to come live with me." I stopped.
"The hell?"
"I want you girls to come live with me." He repeated. I turned around and stepped closer to him.
"For what? You think you can just leave for twelve years and I'll take you back with open arms?" I threw my bag to the ground.
"Opal I don't think your mother is a stable parent for Pearl. She's got two kids who aren't hers living here illegally; One's on an air mattress the other's in your bed now does that sound like a good parent?" He demanded.
"My mother is giving shelter to two girls from an abusive home and she's a hell of a lot better parent than you've ever been!" My eyes shifted to Pearl and Amethyst in the doorway. So did his.
"Pearl, honey. Do you want to come live with me?" Pearl shook her head.
"I-I don't know you. I don't want to live with someone I don't know." I looked at him.
"So that settles it?" He sighed.
"Opal, can I tell you the truth? The real reason I came here today?" Confused, I nodded. "I was a shitty dad. To both of you. It doesn't even matter if your mother and I were divorced, I should have come back to see you. I should have given you a chance to grow up with your sisters. I'm so proud of the smart, loving, beautiful young women you've become, and I wanted to get a chance to show you how I feel." I stepped closer to him.
"Dad, you made mistakes. But your biggest mistake was not telling us how you felt sooner. I still love you."
"And even thought I've only met you several times, I consider myself very lucky to have met you at all." Pearl added. "I have friends who don't know their fathers and friends who don't have fathers who care." We both glanced back at Amethyst.
"What we're saying is, we're ready to start over Dad." I wrapped my arms around him. Pearl did the same.
"Thank you. I love you two so much."
"I love you too Dad." I said.
