Eight-Flexible

Opal's pov

"Okay, is everybody ready for a warm up?" Rainbow asked, bending over to touch her toes.

"God, we just barely made it out of the locker room," A girl with fiery Orange hair complained.

"Oh Amber, I can hear you!" The girl, Amber, blushed. I turned back to Rainbow.

"Okay, you're all here for cheer squad! If you've tried out before, go stand by Emerald! And if not, by Sardonyx!" I sighed and stood by Sardonyx.

"Opal, my dear sister! How long has it been?"

"Not long enough!" Sugilite yelled from the bleachers, cracking up at her own joke.

"Sugilite, if you're not going to be supportive then please leave!" Rainbow shouted. Sugilite sighed, leaving.

"How's dad?" I asked, turning my attention back to Sardonyx.

"Oh, he's just fantastic! And how's mummy?" Sardonyx loudly raved.

"Don't call my mother that!" I snapped. She had no right to refer to my mother as mummy.

"Oh Opal, you know I meant no harm!" She held up her gloved hands. "Anyhow, how's our darling of a sister?"

"Pearl's fine. How's your sister?"

"Oh, Ruby's doing famously!"

You see, about a year after I was born, my mother found out my father was cheating. Sardonyx was born, but mom kept dad around. Around the same time Pearl was born, dad's old girlfriend gave birth to another child of his, Ruby. Ruby's not what ruined my parents' relationship, she was just the final straw. It was Sardonyx.

"Okay, let's start!" Rainbow yelled, snapping me from my thoughts. "First, our current cheerleaders will present. Then we'll take a couple of groups of girls trying out and run through some basic routines. Keep in mind, returning squad members get first spots! But a lot of girls graduated last year, so we're good!" I sat down on the bleachers, next to a girl with a dark tan and short hair that was dyed blue.

"Are you Pearl's sister?" She asked.

"Yeah, that's me," I answered.

"You look like her."

"Thanks?" She chuckled.

"You're welcome. I'm Lapis. Lapis Lazuli!" She said, less than enthusiastically holding out her hand.

"Opal Baroque." I took her hand, shaking it lightly.

"Next group!" Finally, after a few groups, it was finally my turn.

"So what are we going to do?" I asked, eagerly awaiting the results.

"We're going to go through some routines, and see how you guys do!" Rainbow said with a smile.

We practiced for almost a half hour, and by the end my legs were sore.

"Does it hurt?" Rainbow asked with a smirk as I changed by my locker.

"Just a bit sore. I'm out of practice." I pulled my shirt over my head.

"Well, hopefully they're not sore during practice." She handed me a piece of paper welcoming me to both teams.

"Are you serious?" I asked, looking at her.

"Duh, why wouldn't I be?" She came close to my ear and whispered.

"You're just another pretty face and flexible body for the team."
