Chapter 11
Eventually the group found themselves in what looked to be a small valley, jutting rock walls raising up on both sides of them. In front of them there was a beast in large purple armor with a group of Holy Knights in front of it.
"Perhaps it's no surprise. But to think that he made short work of wiping out the Vanguard we sent in..." A female knight said as she stood in front of the giant with a sword held tightly in her hands.
"Those scrubs who let him wipe them out were just too spineless. Right, Slader?" Another one of the knights said- this one having long silver hair and red armor.
In front of him, Titus watched as Meliodas, Ban, and King jumped forwards not wanting to be left behind Titus jumped alongside them and the four of them landed between the knights and the armored giant.
"Gowther! Are you alright?" Meliodas asked.
"Slader, are they...?" The silver haired knight stared.
"No need for superfluous thoughts or inquiries. Our job is to eradicate our target in solemn silence. Concentrate." The masked man- Slader- said.
"Captain-" King started.
"Whoever moves, loses." Meliodas said, and everyone on the battle ground was completely still, even when it started to drizzle nobody moved. Until someone walked right onto the battlefield.
"There you are! I apologize for being so late. I searched all over town, but was unable to find any glue." The newcomer said and Titus looked behind him to see a green haired boy walk right up to the giant. It took a second before the newcomer looked behind him to see what was happening in the clearing. "What is it?"
"You mean, what's up with you!" Ban shouted out in utter shock.
"Me? I'm-"
"Damn it we're too late!" Another voice shouted and everyone in the clearing looked towards the edge of the forest, seeing two women walking onto the clearing.
"Aarona, Brooke! You made it!" Titus exclaimed as the two walked onto the battle field.
"This situation was so tense just a second ago... now it just feels like some kind of gathering." King said.
Suddenly the armored giant started to shake, drawing attention towards it. "Afraid..." It muttered. "Gowther... Afraid..." He suddenly sprung into action and raised his fist into the air. Without hesitation he swung down towards the ground making the sins and Titus jump out of the way to avoid being crushed.
"Kill him." Slader said, and the Holy Knights jumped up into the air, only to be send back down towards the ground by Meliodas. The said blond jumped towards Slader, most likely planning on taking down the leader of the group. Though as he did that the other knights started to try to attack 'Gowther'. Keyword 'try'.
Brooke had created a brief updraft around the armored giant which caused the attacking Holy Knights to be sent back, and no matter how many times they had tried to jump towards it Brooke would create a harsh wind to send them flying back. One of the knights noticed what was happening and rushed straight towards Brooke, her sword drawn.
She swung towards the bluenette, though each time Brooke managed to dodge the attack with ease. Though as Brooke was dodging the attacks the silver haired knight had jumped towards her in hopes of taking her down while she was distracted. There was a sudden sound of metal clashing with metal and Brooke glanced over her shoulder to see Aarona standing between the two of them, a giant golden Battle Axe with red jewel-like details in her hands as she blocked the knight's blade.
"Thanks Aarona!"
"No problem!" Aarona shouted, then she looked at the silver haired knight, "Don't you think ganging up on a girl is a little unfair? She'd be able to take the both of you down with such ease that it's be unfair to Titus and I. We want to fight as well." She pushed forwards with her weapon and made the knight jump back, creating distance between the two of them. "Now, let's dance." Aarona swung down with her axe, which the Holy Knight dodged. Though as it made contact with the ground the rock split in half, thin cracks reaching out from the larger crack that had been made upon contact. The silver haired knight looked at the axe with wide eyes, a look of terror appearing on his face as he watched Aarona pick up back up with ease as if it didn't just almost make the valley they were standing in larger. With a grin she jumped closer, swinging towards the man again, continuing the fight between the two of them.
On the other side of the clearing Titus was fighting against the one knight that was completely in armor- though it couldn't really be called a fight it was more like a game of tag if anything.
"Come on, why don't you stop jumping away and let me get a little hit in?" Titus asked as he once again jumped towards the knight.
Suddenly a spear whizzed just past Titus and broke through the knights armor.
"Thanks for distracting him." King said then he turned his attention to the knight, "Now I'm sorry but I'm turning you into stone till the dust settles."
The knight looked down at his arm, where the spear had grazed just seconds ago and saw it turn to stone. "Simon!" He called out.
The silver haired knight jumped away from another one of Aarona's attacks before slicing the now stone arm off.
"To do that to a friend takes guts." Aarona said as she jumped towards the silver haired knight, Simon, "It also takes guts to ignore my brother!"
"What-?" The armored knight asked and he turned to look to where Titus had been standing just a second ago only to see him charging straight towards him. Within seconds his head made contact with the knight's chest plate and he was sent flying back.
"I don't like being ignored! Or being used as bait! Why don't you come down here, fairy and we'll sort this shit out!"
"Wait what?! Why are you mad at me?" King shouted out in horror.
As everyone was fighting or distracted, one of the knights- an archer- had sent an arrow flying straight towards 'Gowther' and created a bright flash of light. Everyone looked over to the armored giant, and when the light dimmed they were shocked at what they saw.
Alan was standing in front of the giant, one hand raised into the air holding the arrow and showing no sign of injury. "What had just transpired, none of those present could comprehend... And like a corpse, the man just quietly waited for time to pass. For the arrow that would be hurled from his blind side at full strength... The price for breaking the seal will be steep... humans."
"Did he say seal?" Slader asked.
"Hold on the way you talk sounds like..." Meliodas started.
"That symbol on your chest... Don't tell me!"
"Yes. My true identity is..." His apperance started to shift ever so slightly, his green hair getting slightly longer and turning to a more pink color. "One of the Seven Deadly Sins. The Goat Sin of Lust, Gowther."
"This kid is one of the Seven Deadly Sins?" Slader asked.
"I don't believe it."
"I know... but he stopped my fully-charged arrow with his bare hands." The archer said as he walked up to the group. "I just can't imagine some ordinary kid would be able to pull off a stunt like that."
"Wait you guys really thought that kid was normal? Didn't any of you feel the power coming off him?" Titus asked, looking around at both the sins and the knights.
"Wait you mean to tell me you knew and you didn't say anything?!" King exclaimed.
"Well, yeah. It was obvious. I thought everyone else knew."
"Dumbass." Aarona muttered- as if she didn't also know the whole time as well.
"Huh? So this is what that armor contained?" Ban asked as he jumped to stand beside Gowther. "Guess I always figured it was some giant old man who was stuffed inside there."
"Given your posture, gait, tone of voice, attitude, as well as that scar I presume that you're Ban the Undead." Gowther said.
"He's one of the Seven Deadly Sins, too?" The female knight who Brooke had been fighting asked.
"And that young boy who appears just as I remember him from years ago must be..." Gowther continued.
"You got it! I'm Captain Meliodas all right!"
"This little squirt is the captain of the Seven Deadly Sins?!" Simon shouted looking over at Meliodas in shock.
"Yeah, surprised?"
"You're not a part of the Seven Deadly Sins," Gowther said as he turned his attention to Brooke, then glanced at Aarona and Titus "Neither are you two. But if my memory is to be correct all of you should be dead by now."
"Hey, isn't that just a little rude?" Meliodas asked.
"Nah, he has a point." Brooke said with a shrug.
"Hey, hey, what do you think of that guy?" Ban asked pointing towards King was was floating above Titus. "You're so gonna flip! That's King!"
"No that's someone else. Bone structure, voice, and body odor all indicates another person. Not King." Gowther said.
King was quiet for a second before he inflated to look more like the form he took ten years ago- causing Titus to start laughing hysterically at the sudden change.
"It is him, then. Undoubtedly."
Suddenly there was the sound of clapping and everyone in the clearing looked towards Slader. "Wonderful! To meet not only Gowther but three of the Seven Deadly Sins? So happy! Given the chance I would love to challenge you but it's such a pity. In the very end our mission is to return home with that Armor Giant's head."
"By the way, who's inside of that Armor?" Meliodas asked.
"I'm not really sure." Gowther responded.
"Now then," Slader raised his sword, and the other knights regrouped beside him and readied their own weapons. "Time to get to work!"
"I'd actually prefer it if you left him alone. Would you?"
"What's going on, Gowther? Just let those guys do what they want." Ban said.
"Yeah the fact is the only reason we tried to protect him is because we thought it was you." King added.
"Really? You guys are just going to let the knights kill this creature?" Brooke asked, "Though the darkness that's surrounding him is kind of concerning." Just as she said that the giant burst into action and the armor broke off, falling to the ground and revealing what was underneath. Arching back the creature let out an earsplitting roar a dark pressure weighing those in the clearing down.
"You felt this magical power first hand. Still think you can defeat him?" Gowther asked.
"Yes, we can. I'll admit that two of us, no, one of us is sure to die. But it's a sure bet that we'll be claiming this one's head." Slader said.
"A cool-headed assessment. I have no choice then." He raised his hand before swinging up upwards, chopping the creatures head clean off much to the surprise of everyone watching. The ground shook as the creature fell to it's knees, now lacking a head. Gowther, now with the head in his hand held it out to the knights, "Take it with you."
"What are you doing?"
"It's the most peaceful way of resolving this. If a three-way battle erupted among us, the blowback will inevitably wipe out the villagers or Ordan. And this way the knights who perished wouldn't of died in vain."
"All right, I accept your offer!" Slader said as he reached forwards and grabbed the head.
"Are you sure about this? That was our pray he just-" Simon started.
"Be silent! I like you, Gowther the Goat Sin. So out of respect for your legend we'll withdraw. But if by chance we're ordered to go after your heads one day... when that time comes... well.. ta-ta!" With that he jumped away and out of the valley, head in hand, the rest of the knights following behind him."
"Well that felt kind of anticlimactic." Aarona said crossing her arms and watching the knights run off with the head. "I still can't believe Gowther just cut off the guy's head like that."
"Me too. It looked like you had some sympathy for this monster." King said, turning his attention to Gowther.
"Oh really? Was I sympathizing with him?" Gowther asked, causing Ban and King to glance at each other.
"He was wearing your armor, wasn't he?" Meliodas asked. "Was he like your stand-in or something?"
"Stand in? No, but he effectively became one. After all you did mistake him for me."
"Yeah, well, it's not like we've ever seen your real face." Ban said.
"I see... In other words my disguise was unnecessary..."
"Still, I've never seen a monster like this before." Meliodas said as he walked up towards one of the creature's hands.
"Me neither." Brooke said as she looked over at the passed out monster, "I've seen my fair share of weird dangerous creatures in my life-time but this guy is completely new. There's a dark power surrounding him but it almost feels like it doesn't fully belong to him."
"All I know is he creeps me out." Aarona said. "I just hope chopping his head off did the trick."
"Why wouldn't it?" Ban asked.
"With strange monsters like these they might have some different kind of weak spot. Like multiple hearts you have to rip out or something."
"Yeah and with what Brooke said about this guy's power... there's some kind of human scent to it." Titus said.
"I noticed the same thing. This creature was very likely human once." Gowther agreed.
"Human?" King asked in shock.
Suddenly, the fingertips of the monster shifted, then the arm, and slowly the creature pushed itself up into a standing position.
"Well then, let's try to contain him. The seven of us." Gowther said.
"Hold on. What's going on here?" Meliodas asked.
"What's going on is that creature's not dead." Aarona said, hitting her fists together and creating some sparks, "So now we've gotta take him down for good!"
"You... you chopped off his head but he's still alive!" King shouted, now in his bigger form.
"Yes. It was only ornamental anyway."
"What part of him was once human? Could he be any more bizarre?!"
"The very core of his being." Brooke said, "Though from what I can tell he wasn't ordinary. I believe he was most likely a former Holy Knight. Look there, in the middle of those four heads." The creature had formed four lumps on it's chest, each one developing a nose and mouth each. In the middle of the heads there was a man sticking out.
"He was a former Holy knight?" King asked.
"Yes. I felt that power as well, and I'm sure you can feel it too. Drifting along the torrent of evil magical power is the great power of a Holy Knight." Gowther said. "In order to suppress this evil force I had him wear my armor. But it seems that over time he got strong enough to break through the seal."
"So that's what's going on." Meliodas said. "Well he doesn't exactly seem like the kind of guy you can reason with."
Suddenly the monster let out a roar and brought it's fist down to the ground, making the group jump away before they were crushed.
Going off the power radiating off of the monster, this battle wasn't going to be easy.
