Chapter 2
Chapter 2
We all cheered as we got back to the locker game. We’d won 24-0.
“That was awesome!” Ryan exclaimed.
“Sam I’ve never seen you tackle someone like that before.” Luke agreed. I just nodded, my face set as I looked down at my phone.
“What’s wrong?” Nate asked quickly.
“Nothing.” I mumbled, tossing my phone in my bag. I pulled off my pads and changed into some shorts and a t-shirt.
“Seriously what’s wrong?” Nate said, walking up to me.
“Nothing.” I said, faking a smile. Nate raised his eyebrows. He could see right through me. He was like the brother that I always wanted, but never had. He was my best friend, the one who was always there for me.
“Is it about your parents?”
“Sort of.” I said quickly. “Look, I’ll talk to you later, okay? I have to get to the end of Sofia’s singing crap.”
I rushed out to the car, and quickly drove home. My team came pounding into the house after me. I just watched with wide eyes as they raided my fridge, and proceeded to go downstairs to my room.
“Hey Sam.” Justin called before running downstairs.
I sighed and ran down after them.
“Out!” I called, pounding on the bathroom door. I tossed my bag down and waited for Nate to come out of the bathroom. I darted into the shower, only taking 3 minutes, then wrapped a towel around me and ran to my closet.
I nearly gagged when I put on leggings and a pink top. I let my hair fall naturally in it’s curls, and I pulled on some white converse.
I walked out of my closet and into the bathroom.
“Oooh don’t you look fancy.” Nate teased.
“Shut up there will most likely be pictures.” I grumbled, putting on some lip gloss. That’s the only makeup I would wear.
“Gonna be all famous?” Ryan laughed.
“Yea my shoulder hurts like a bitch though. That big guy, number 28, landed right on my shoulder.” I grumbled, moving my arm around.
“I still can’t believe you tackled him.” Luke laughed. I just grinned.
“I’ll see you guys later...” I sighed, putting my phone in the waist band of my leggings.
I groaned and ran upstairs, knowing I would be late. I jumped in the car, and drove as fast as I could to the school where the competition was being held.
“You’re late.” My mother hissed as I sat down.
“Yea well sorry.” I grumbled, sitting down harshly.
******************************
“Tomorrow is Saturday.” I said happily as I changed out of my uncomfortable outfit.
“Which means practice.” Nate grumbled from the spot on the couch. Most of the team was still here.
“Yea but late practice. Which means I don’t have to sleep early tonight.” I replied.
“Samantha!” My mom called, walking down the stairs.
“What.” I groaned, turning to look at her.
“What are you wearing for the VMAs tomorrow?” She asked, raising her eyebrows. “I need to make sure it’s alright.”
My eyes widened.
“That’s tomorrow?!” I exclaimed. “But practice ends at 5!”
“Can’t you just skip for once?” My mother frowned.
“Can’t you just skip one of your business meetings?” I asked, crossing my arms. Mom sighed, rolling her eyes.
“I guess we could get there later. They don’t start until 8 but-”
“Then we can get there at 7. Like we did for the Grammy’s, alright?” I said, pulling my hair up into a bun. “Do I have to wear a dress?”
“One that you haven’t worn before.” Mom replied.
I groaned.
“You better not put my in heels...” I grumbled.
Mom shook her head.
“You’ve gotta be your sisters’ height for pictures.” She said harshly.
I groaned again.
“Fine. But I’m wearing a black dress I don’t care what you say.” I said, crossing my arms.
“Fine.” My mom said quickly, knowing that’s as good as she’d get. I nodded and plopped down on the couch next to Ryan. She gave me a disgusted look and went back upstairs.
“You’re going to the VMAs tomorrow?” Ryan asked. I just mumbled.
“Yea.” I said quietly.
“Awh are you going to get all pretty?” Ryan teased, poking my cheek.
“Yea.” I mumbled.
“With all fancy makeup?”
“And fancy hair?”
“And a pretty little dress?”
“Samantha!” A girls’ voice exclaimed, rushing through the double doors from the ping pong room. I jumped up.
“Natalie! Lauren! I thought you were coming tomorrow!” I said, giving them both hugs. These girls were models, and somehow, we’d become friends at all of the crazy fundraisers in Hollywood and places like that.
“Change of plans.” Natalie laughed.
“Uh...” Lauren said, peering around me. The guys all waved.
“Hi!” Multiple people cheered.
“Why are all these boys here?” Natalie asked, raising her eyebrows.
“Just some friends.” I laughed, turning around to walk back to the couch.
“So can we see your dress for tomorrow?!” Natalie exclaimed.
“Yea we can get ready together!” Lauren said happily.
“Ah I can’t wait to straighten your hair.” Natalie laughed.
“Show us your dress!” Lauren said impatiently.
“I don’t know what I’m wearing yet.” I shrugged.
“Oh my God you’re worse than last time.” Natalie shrugged, opening up my closet.
“For God sakes you’d think a boy lives here.” Lauren frowned.
The guys were all chuckling.
“She’s definitely a girl.” Ryan muttered.
“You can tell by her white pants.” Luke laughed.
“Hey!” I said harshly.
“Oh come on we’re just teasing.” Ryan said, standing up. “You’ve just gotta go with the flow of the joke.”
I ran at him and tackled him to the ground.
“Jesus.” Ryan grumbled. “I feel bad for that guy now.”
“Apologize.” I said harshly, pinning his hands down.
“Oi get off.” Ryan said, trying to kick me off of him.
“Sam...” Luke groaned. “Stop torturing him...”
“I’m not moving until he apologizes.” I hissed.
“Alright I’m sorry.” Ryan said. “Geez.”
I nodded and went to get off of him.
“Go eat some chocolate or something.”
I had him pinned back down within seconds.
“You little fu-”
“Paybacks a bitch.” He said as he flipped me over, pinning me down.
“Get off of me!” I exclaimed, trying to get away from him.
“Not until you apologize.” He mocked.
“Ryan stop!” I laughed, rolling my eyes.
“Why?” He said, grabbing my hands and putting them behind my head. I let out a yelp, causing him to jump back. “What’d I do!?” He asked quickly.
Sure, they messed with me, but if they ever hurt me, they instantly regretted it.
“Nothing. My shoulder’s just sore.” I sighed.
“How about this one?” Lauren said, emerging from the closet.
“No.” I said seriously.
“What about that pink one? With the sparkles?”
“No.” I said seriously.
“What about the green one? The one shoulder one that’s really really pretty?” Perrie asked.
I frowned.
“I don’t want to wear a dress...” I groaned. “They’re uncomfortable.”
“How are dresses uncomfortable.”
“I hate having my legs wide open and unexposed.” I laughed, still hanging over Nate’s shoulder.
“Well then wear spandex underneath.” Nate suggested.
“I’ll find something to wear don’t worry.” I said to the girls.
“Alright well how about we’ll come down here at like... 3? and we’ll start getting ready?” Natalie asked.
I shook my head. “Nah I’m busy from 3-5.” I said, rolling my arm out.
“What’s wrong?” Lauren frowned. “You’re in pain.”
“Well in addition to the knives in my back right now and the pain in my knee, I did something to my shoulder today.” I sighed.
“Your knee is bothering you again?” Nate asked seriously.
“You have to tell coach.” Ryan frowned.
“That’s not a good sign.” Luke said.
“You can’t play tomorrow.” Justin added.
“Jesus I’m fine. I cut myself shaving and the cut hurts like a bitch.” I lied, rolling my eyes.
The guys were quiet again.
“So who even are you?” Lauren asked the guys.
“We are the football team.” Ryan said proudly.
“But you hate football.” Natalie said to me.
I shrugged. “They’re my friends.” I said, rolling my eyes. I pulled a coke out of the fridge and opened it.
“Oh no you don’t you can’t get bloated for tomorrows event do you know how many pictures there will be?!” Lauren exclaimed.
“I don’t get bloated.” I laughed. “I’ll just exercise it all off anyways.”
Natalie rolled her eyes. “You can’t exercise on the day of an awards show, and you can’t eat that day either.” Natalie said, taking the pizza out of my hands.
I frowned, closing my mouth that had been open to take a bite. “But pizza is good.” I frowned.
“Yea but this won’t stay flat with pizza.” Lauren said, going to lift up my shirt.
I scrambled away from her, yanking my shirt down.
“Don’t do that.” I said harshly.
“Jesus, you’re not one to be self conscious.” Natalie grumbled, tossing the pizza in the sink.
“Oi! That was a perfectly good piece!” Luke exclaimed.
I rolled my eyes at him.
“Girls, I love you, but please go upstairs. I’m not in the mood.” I said, my arms still wrapped around my stomach.
“Fine but you’re getting ready with us tomorrow.” Natalie said, pointing at me.
“I can’t. I have other things to do.” I groaned.
“We’ll make you!” Lauren called as they ran up the stairs.
I sighed and grabbed another piece of pizza.
“You have friends!” Luke teased.
“That are girls!” Matt joked.
I rolled my eyes.
“Tomorrow is the long practice right? Because that new guys coming?” I asked, sitting down on the couch.
“Yea...” Luke grumbled. Luke was in a sour mood, he always had a thing about new guys coming to the team.
“Don’t worry. You’ll always be my favorite.” I said, handing him the rest of my pizza.
