Chapter 16
Chapter 16
I actually gasped when we got up. I’d seen that the back of the house was windows, but I didn’t put two and two together that there was an actual room here. It was a small, attic like place, with lots of bean bags and a really nice shaggy carpeting. The entire wall facing the lake was pure glass, and the view across the horizon was geous.
“This is amazing.” I said as I put my feet on the ground again. I walked over to the window and looked out.
“Best part, they can’t see in.” He said, pointing down to the team, who were all on the beach.
“Well isn’t that just fancy.” I said, smiling as he wrapped his around me from the back. I sighed and leaned back against him.
“So. What are you doing on Saturday miss Carson?” He asked me softly, his lips right next to my ear.
“I’m not sure, what are you implying Mr. Peters?” I asked softly.
“Would you like to go to homecoming with me?” Dylan whispered, pressing his lips to my ear.
“Why I’d love to.” I said, turning around to face him. He smiled and pressed his lips against mine, pulling me into him.
We kissed like that for a few moments, but I wasn’t really sure if we should take it that far, at the moment.
“So what color’s your dress? Don’t I need to match my tie and everything?” Dylan laughed.
I groaned. “I’ll have to call Natalie and Lauren... And they’ll want to pick me out a dress...” I grumbled.
“Fancy.” Dylan laughed.
I winked at him. “It’ll be gorgeous.” I said in a British accent. Dylan laughed.
“Anything you wear is gorgeous.” He said, kissing my nose.
“Why thank you.” I smiled. “Anyways...” I trailed off, pulling his hips closer to mine. “We have an entire afternoon, of the beautiful outdoors, with amazing lighting in your perfect room with a massive bed... So why don’t we make the most of it?”
Dylan raised his eyebrows.
“Are you suggesting what I think you’re suggesting?” He whispered.
“Oh come on I know you’ve been thinking about it all afternoon.” I giggled, taking his hand. “Come on.” I said and pulled him towards the door.
“Wait...” He said, catching my waist with his hands.
“Yes?” I laughed as he pulled me back into him.
“Why leave?” He whispered, sitting down on the couch and pulling me with him. I laughed and sat with my legs on either side of his waist.
“Because this is a common area and-”
“Only Brian and I come up here, and I told him to please stay away for the day.” Dylan said, his hands resting on my waist.
“Well then, what are waiting for?” I whispered, pressing my lips against his.
******************************
“Oi. Dinner’s ready. The rest of the guys are here so hurry up.” Brian called, knocking on the door at the top of the stairs.
“Okay!” Dylan laughed, getting up off of the couch. I giggled and reached for my bikini top.
“Can you tie it?” I asked, turning around. Dylan nodded and tied it for me. I slipped on the bottoms and looked at Dylan.
“We better hurry and get dressed before the other guys get suspicious.” I giggled, walking towards the door. He nodded and pulled on his shorts, then followed me down. I quickly ran to his room, then just pulled a white dress over my bikini.
“Ugh I need to shower tomorrow.” I said, looking in his bathroom. “And I can’t wait to get in that huge shower.”
“Big enough for two.” Dylan said, winking at me. I just looked at him. “I’m only joking.” He laughed, pulling a t-shirt over his head. “I love you, but we’ll wait to add adventures into our sex lives.”
“Oh God don’t call it that.” I said, walking out of the door. “Oh God.”
“What? It’s a true fact!” Dylan laughed, following me.
“Please stop talking.”
“Are you embarrassed to be having sex with me?” Dylan asked as we got to the top of the stairs.
“Dylan. Stop it I swear I’ll-”
I lost my footing and quite spectacularly slid down the stairs, crashing right into Adam at the bottom as he walked to the table that was filled with literally everybody. The team stood up and started clapping.
“That is by far her best fall.” Matt said, pretending to me emotional.
“Oh my god I’m so sorry.” I said, standing up and reaching out my hand to help Adam.
“So you’re a klutz?” Adam laughed, brushing off his hands.
“Not really I-”
“Yes she is.” Dylan said appearing next to me. “But that’s alright.” He winked.
I just laughed. “A day doesn’t go by where I don’t fall.” I shrugged, walking over to the table. There were two spots left to the left of Nate, so Dylan and I sat there.
“Where have you two been all afternoon?” Nate asked.
“Oh I was just on Skype, talking to Natalie and Lauren, I’m not sure where Dylan was.” I shrugged, piling some chicken onto my plate.
“I was just relaxing.” Dylan said, his foot brushing against mine. I giggled, then quickly put my hand over my mouth.
“Did you just giggle.” Ryan said, raising his eyebrows.
“Maybe.” I said, shrugging.
“She’s turning into a girl...” Luke muttered, shaking his head.
“Hey, being a girl isn’t a bad thing.” Josie said, smiling at me.
“Damn right it isn’t.” Dylan said, looking at me. I felt my cheeks turn pink.
“Oh God now she’s blushing!” Luke laughed. I just rolled my eyes.
“So? I am allowed to be a girl you know.” I shrugged, taking a big bite of my chicken.
“And there’s the moment over.” Nate said, handing me a napkin. “You’ve got a bit of sauce on your chin.”
I rolled my eyes at him and wiped off my face.
“You know I’m not really that hungry to be honest...” I said, sitting back in my chair.
“Yea I had a huge breakfast.” Dylan said.
I grinned. “That was epic.” I giggled. We’d made a ton of pancakes and french toast, and eggs, and toast, and bacon. It was delicious.
“What are you two doing tonight?” Kate asked us. Dylan just looked at me.
“I think we were just going to watch a movie or something...” Dylan shrugged. “I’m really tired today.”
“Yea me too...” I said, closing my eyes and resting my head back.
“Yea anyone would be if they did all that stuff you two did today.” Brian laughed. Dylan spit his water out, coughing in shock.
“WHAT?!” Dylan exclaimed.
“That workout you all did, that was tiring.” Brian laughed.
“Oh.” Dylan said, wiping his pants off. “Yea. That was relatively easy to some stuff she makes us do.”
“Wow.” Adam said.
“Yea Sam’s a rough captain.” Nate said.
“I bet Dylan likes it rough, huh?” Brian teased.
“Okay can you just shut up? You’re not even funny so just be quiet.” Dylan said, glaring at his brother.
Brian just laughed.
“Cheer up. I’m just trying to make a joke.”
“Well your jokes aren’t funny anymore.” Dylan said, standing up harshly.
“Whoa Dylan what’s wrong?” I said.
“Nothing he’s just a dick.” Dylan muttered, walking towards the stairs.
“Bad word!” Noah yelled. Dylan ran up the stairs, taking two at a time, and I heard his door slam a second later. I just looked at Ethan, who was frowning.
Kate and Rob both looked at me expectantly and I sighed, standing up.
“I’ll go.” I muttered, pushing my chair back from the crowded table. I jogged up the stairs and into Dylan’s room.
“Hey.” I said softly. He was laying on his stomach on his bed with his head in his pillow. He just mumbled a reply. I gently sat down next to him and put my hand on his back.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, gently rubbing his back. Dylan just shook his head. “Babe...” I said, laying down next to him.
He turned to look at me and I was shocked to see tears in his eyes.
“Dylan...” I whispered, running my fingers through his hair.
“He’s just so inconsiderate, and he treats me like shit.” Dylan said, his voice cracking.
“We can hate our families together.” I whispered, playing with his hair.
Dylan actually smiled at that one.
“It’s only Brian that I hate...” Dylan said softly. “My parents think he’s some sort of perfect kid, and we even moved all the way here because he’s at Michigan and I just-”
“Hey... Don’t say it’s a bad thing that you moved here...” I said, giving him a look. “You have the team, you have me, your brothers are happy...”
Dylan just nodded.
“I just wish Brian wouldn’t be so full of himself...” Dylan said, more tears filling up in his eyes. “You should see the shit he does to me when no one else is around...”
“He’s just being an annoying older brother...” I said softly. Dylan took a deep breath, and I rested my head on the pillow next to him.
“If it makes you feel any better... I know what it feels like to be least loved...” I said, still massaging his hair.
“That’s different, Sam. You’re family isn’t your real family, they don’t have to love you. This is my real family. They love me no matter what.” Dylan said.
I felt a lump in my throat rise.
“Wow...” I said quietly. “That feels just great.” I muttered.
Dylan’s eyes were unreadable. “Well like, you don’t know your real family, so you don’t know what it feels like to be around them when they don’t love you.” Dylan said, shrugging.
I just frowned and stood up from the bed. I’d been fine with the fact that I was adopted, but hearing this from Dylan of all people, just hurt.
“That’s low, Dylan...” I said quietly, stepping into some flip flops.
“I didn’t mean-”
“I know what you meant Dylan. Just because my mother gave me up doesn’t mean that she doesn’t love me and-”
“Jesus Christ do you ever let me finish a sentence?!” Dylan exclaimed.
“Well obviously I just did! What’s gotten into you today?!” I said, crossing my arms.
“Your attitude! I’m sick of it! You act like you’re the fucking queen of everything and that everyone should bow down to you but you-”
“I do not!” I exclaimed. “You of all people should know that! You’re the one person that I tell everything to! No one else knows the real shit going on with my family-”
“Oh just suck it up! So what. They’re not related to you by blood. They’ve still given you a house to live in and clothes to wear and food to eat for the past 10 years of your life!” Dylan exclaimed.
“You can’t tell me how to react to this alright?!” I said, not caring how loudly I was yelling. “Even when you get in fights with your parents, they love you no matter what because your mom carried you for 9 fucking months! My parents just picked me up in Italy! Don’t even think that you even begin to understand the shit that I’ve gone through!”
“What shit?! It’s not that big of a deal that your parents don’t care about you that much! Do you want to over protective parents who watch your every move?!” Dylan yelled.
“I’d rather have that than a mom who cares more about her other kids and a dad who only cares about his job!” I said loudly, holding out my arms. “Who gave you the right to tell me how to behave?! You’re not my fucking dad!”
“And what’s the deal with you and Nate anyways?” Dylan asked harshly, crossing his arms.
“WHAT?!” I screamed. “Why don’t you tell me what the deal with me and Nate is!”
“You and him are all buddy buddy and shit and I don’t like it!”
“He’s my friend!” I exclaimed. “I’ve known him since I was 7 and he’s always been there for me and-”
“You better not be cheating on me.” Dylan said.
“Why the hell would you think that I was?! For God sakes don’t be stupid you’re the only person I’ve ever loved and Nate is nothing compared to you!” I exclaimed.
“Yea well I don’t like you hanging out with him.”
“I’m his captain.”
“You’re a girl.”
“Oh my God!” I screamed. “You’ve just insulted me in three different ways in like 2 fucking minutes!”
I grabbed his keys off the table and turned to the door.
“No don’t you dare drive my truck!” Dylan yelled, walking after me.
“I’ll do whatever I want!” I said loudly.
“No you won’t that’s mine!” Dylan yelled, running out of the door after me.
“Okay then you’re off the team.” I said, spinning around to face him. “If I can’t use your truck, you can’t use my team.” I said, loudly.
Dylan’s face was just blank, looking at me.
“You can’t just-”
“Oh yes I can.” I said, crossing my arms. “Or am I too girly to be a captain?” I asked harshly.
“Yea! Sometimes I think you are!” Dylan said loudly.
“Oh do tell me on how girly I am!” I yelled, feeling the anger rise.
“You always try and get out of sprints and act all high and mighty!” Dylan said. “Like the other day, everyone was running a lot and you just sat there saying you were ‘sore’ or some shit.”
I just looked at him and shook my head. “You’re a dick, you know that?” I said quietly, walking to the top of the steps. “And I don’t know why I wasted my time with you.”
The color drained off of Dylan’s face.
“No please don’t go.” He said quickly, taking a step towards me.
“Why?” I said, crossing my arms. “Why shouldn’t I go?” My voice cracked, and I mentally slapped myself. Way to show your weakness Sam...
Dylan just looked at me.
“Exactly.” I said, walking down the steps.
“Sam please!” Dylan called, running down after me. I ignored him and picked up my shoes off of the ground to pull on.
“Sam can’t we just talk about this like mature people?” Dylan asked.
“Oh we’ve already talked enough.” I said, stumbling as I tried to pull on my next shoe. Dylan caught my arm before I fell, but I shook his hand off. “Just leave me alone.” I said, walking out of the door.
As I got into Dylan’s truck, I looked back to see Dylan standing there with a painful look on his face.
I started driving in the direction of the main part of town.
******************************
“Babe?” Dylan asked softly as I walked out of the bathroom.
I ignored him.
“Babe please...” Dylan said softly from the bed. I didn’t look at him as I walked to the door.
“Please don’t go to the guest room... Please just stay here with me...” Dylan pleaded. I turned to look at him.
Tears filled my eyes and I just nodded, taking a deep breath. I walked over to the bed and cuddled up next to him.
“Why are you crying...?” Dylan asked softly, wrapping his arms around me.
“Because I’m sorry that I was such a bitch and I’m-”
“Don’t be sorry...” Dylan whispered. “I’m the one that should be sorry...”
I just nodded, burying my face in his neck.
“I love you...” Dylan whispered. I just sighed.
“I love you too.” I replied, closing my eyes.
“Just go to sleep... Tomorrow’s a new day, with no fighting...” Dylan said quietly.
******************************
“Morning!” Kate said cheerfully as Dylan and I walked downstairs.
“Hi.” Dylan grinned.
“So what time are you leaving today?” Nate asked. I jumped when I saw him sitting at the counter.
“Geez I didn’t think you’d be here.” I laughed, walking over to the table where all the food was.
“The others already ate and are out back, just getting some sun before they drive back. I’ve been getting to know Nate, he’s really nice.” Kate grinned.
“Yea so what time are you two leaving?” Nate asked, raising his eyebrows.
“I’m not sure...” I said, taking a plate and piling some food on it. “Depends on what time we get packed.”
Dylan put his hand on my back as he got a plate of food for himself.
“Are you two dating?” Nate asked.
“Yep.” I said, not missing a beat.
“Wait seriously?!” Nate exclaimed.
“Almost 4 months now.” Dylan smiled. Nate’s eyes widened.
“You didn’t tell us?!” Nate yelped.
“Nope.” Dylan and I both said at the same time. I sat down at the table and started to eat.
“Why?!” Nate exclaimed. I shrugged.
“We didn’t feel like it.” I said, taking some of the eggs onto my fork. They were mixed with cheese and ham. My favorite.
I finished way before Dylan did.
“Do you want to just head upstairs and finish packing, then we’ll head home?” Dylan asked, looking up at me as I stood up. I nodded. Everyone was driving back to Birmingham today. The game was tomorrow night, but coach wanted us all at school tomorrow morning for some pre-game stuff. We always had one game of the season where we just did bonding shit all day.
I headed upstairs, and packed up all of the clothes we’d taken. It wasn’t too much stuff, so I was packed pretty soon.
“Hey babe.” Dylan smiled, walking into the bedroom.
“Hi.” I grinned.
“Ready to go?” He asked, picking up the bags for me. I looked around the room.
“Yea... I had fun this week.” I said, kissing his cheek.
“Me too.” He said, winking at me.
“I can’t wait to get on the road. The rest of my family is staying here one more night and I’m really looking forward to a whole night alone with you.” He winked, then walked out of the door.
