Chapter 12

Chapter 12

“I love you.” I whispered, resting my head on Dylan’s chest.

He kissed my forehead.

“I love you too.” He replied, holding me close to him. I sighed and shut my eyes.

“You know... Every time I hear this song, I’m going to think of you.” He said softly as ‘Give Me Love’ by Ed Sheeran played softly in the background.

I nodded, letting out a soft sigh as I rested my head on his chest.

“So...” I whispered, looking up at him. “You ready for regionals?” I laughed.

“Fuck yea.” Dylan smiled. “When are they?” He asked.

“2 weeks.” I grinned. “Then it’s Nationals 4 weeks after that.”

“Ooh. Fancy.” He whispered, kissing my forehead again. I frowned as Dylan’s phone started ringing. I rolled over in his extremely small bed to answer it.

“Hello?” I answered, not looking at the idea.

“Whoa Sam why are you answering Dylan’s phone?” Nate asked.

“Why are you calling Dylan?” I asked.

“Because we were supposed to be working on our history project this morning but he didn’t show up.” Nate frowned.

“Oh. Here he is.” I said, handing the phone to Dylan.

“Hello?” Dylan asked, lazily looking at me. His eyes widened and he sat up. “Oh shit. Yea um, just uh, just come over.” Dylan said, pushing back the covers and jumping out of bed. I squeaked and covered my bare body.

Dylan rattled off his address, then hung up. “Nate’s coming over in 2 minutes.” Dylan said to me. My eyes widened and I jumped up, holding the covers around my body. Dylan laughed as I grabbed a towel from his closet and wrapped it around myself.

“I’ll be in the shower.” I said. Dylan nodded, pulling on a pair of boxers. He followed me out into the hall.

“Colton! Ethan!” He called. The twins came out of Noah’s room, and smiled at us.

“Have fun last night?” Ethan smirked, raising his eyebrows.

“Nate’s coming over he doesn’t know about us okay?” Dylan said, pushing his brothers into his room. I laughed and walked into the bathroom.

I took my time in the shower, trying to relive every moment of the perfect night I had last night...

We’d won the football game, by a particularly large margin, and then Dylan and I had made excuses to get out of the party. We’d gone back to his house, and he’d had a whole romantic thing set up, with candles, and pillows, and blankets, and it was just adorable.

I stepped out of the shower, and swore when I realized I didn’t have any clean clothes with me...

Well. Nate was going to be a bit confused.

I carefully walked out into the hallway, and was quite embarrassed to see Kate. I held the towel tighter around me and gave her an awkward smile.

“Hi.” I mumbled.

“Hey sweetie.” She grinned. Unlike a normal person, who would keep walking, she stopped in front of me and attempted to have a conversation.

“Look, I know that it’s not really my place to say this to you, but from what I’ve gathered, your parents weren’t all that involved in your personal life...” Kate said softly. “And I just... I really care what happens with my son, and you of course, you’re like a daughter to me, and I just want to make sure that you... that you’re being careful...”

I felt my cheeks turn pink.

“Kate, I promise that we are, did, will, I don’t know!” I said, getting flustered.

Kate just laughed. “No it’s fine, I know what it it’s like to be a teenager with a boyfriend, but please be careful.”

“Don’t worry.” I smiled.

“So... As your honorary mother for the time being...” Kate said, a smile growing on her face. “Think of me as your mom, not Dylan’s...”

I raised my eyebrows.

“How was it?” She asked.

I felt my cheeks turn pink again, but I felt comfortable with her.

“H-how’d you know?” I muttered.

“You’re a nice girl, Sam. And I could just tell by the way that you and Dylan acted, and how nervous he was yesterday when he set off the smoke alarm.” She laughed.

“He set off the smoke alarm?!” I exclaimed.

“Oh dear I wasn’t supposed to say anything...” She muttered, frowning. “But yea. He lit too many candles and a blanket caught fire.”

I just laughed. “That’s something he would do.” I giggled. “Now... If you don’t mind... I’m going to go put some clothes on, considering I’m standing naked under this towel in your hall.”

“Oh but Dylan’s history group is in there...” Kate said, frowning.

“Oh yea I know. Nate’s my best friend.” I said over my shoulder as I opened the door.

I walked into the room, then shut the door.

“Sam?!” Nate exclaimed.

“What are you doing here?!” Ryan exclaimed.

I gasped and held the towel tighter to me.

“What the fuck! I thought only Nate was coming!” I exclaimed, looking down to make sure that everything was covered.

“Uh... No we’re all in a group with-”

“Hey guys sorry I’m late I- Oh so it’s this kind of party.” Matt laughed, walking into the room.

“This could not get any worse.” I groaned.

“Oh but it could considering Dylan still owes us 50 each.” Colton said from his bunk bed.

“FIFTY?!” I exclaimed.

Dylan just groaned and reached for his wallet. “You little shits.” Dylan said, handing money to each of his brothers. They grinned, proud with their accomplishments.

“That was the easiest money I’ve ever made.” Ethan laughed. Him and Colton got up and left the room. I walked over to the dresser where some of my clothes were.

“Do you guys mind turning around while I change?” I asked, raising my eyebrows.

“Why we’ve seen you change before.” Ryan shrugged.

“Yea. When I’m wearing a t-shirt and spandex.” I hissed.

Nate was the first to turn around, and the other boys followed suit. I quickly pulled on my underwear and one of Dylan’s t-shirts, then some athletic shorts.

“Okay.” I said, jumping on his bed and reaching for my phone.

“So why are you here?” Ryan asked.

I frowned.

“Reasons.” I muttered.

“You haven’t spoken to your parents in a month....” Nate said, raising his eyebrows.

“Just look up the press conference from yesterday.” I replied, putting my phone down. I groaned and rolled onto my stomach, burying my face in the pillow.

I instantly pulled back, sneezing.

“Bless you.” Dylan said.

“Thanks.” I smiled, laying back down. “I’m so tired...”

“YOU’RE ADOPTED?!” Nate exclaimed.

I frowned.

“Yupp.” I sighed, closing my eyes. “And I can’t say anything about football, because part of my dad’s campaign is about how genders should stay separate in sports, because of medical issues, and girls don’t develop muscle as quickly as guys do...” I added.

“Oh yea... Isn’t he running for president?”

“Uh yea! The election is in 5 weeks.” I said, looking up. “So I’m going to be traveling a lot more soon and ugh. I don’t want to move to Washington D.C. if he wins...”

“What are you talking about, you could just stay here.” Kate said, walking in with a tray of cookies. I smiled.

“It wouldn’t look good... The president’s daughter not living with her father?” I sighed, hugging the pillow close to me.

“Well you’re always welcome here, you know that.” Kate smiled, putting her hands on her waist.

I shrugged.

“We still have 5 more weeks until anything happens, and even then we don’t move in until like January.” I said.

“Alright... Well anyways, are you still up for running errands with me today? I just have to go to the grocery store, and get some new underwear for the twins.” Kate said.

“Ah.... You know I totally would, but I’m really tired, and we have practice this afternoon, so I’m just going to sleep a bit.” I smiled. “I’ll come with you another time though.”

“Alright. Dylan? Sam? Any requests?” Kate asked, walking towards the door.

“Ooh ma can you get those like, dark chocolate protein bar thingies? Sam and I ate them all last week.” Dylan said.

“Oh God no those gave me the worst stomach ache ever.” I said, shaking my head.

“Well I liked them.”

“Can you get some chocolate?” I asked, looking up at her.

“Of course.” Kate smiled, then walked out. I sighed as the door shut.

“Why are you all buddy buddy with Mrs. Peters?” Ryan asked curiously.

I shrugged.

“Alright so are we going to work on this or not?” Dylan asked, spinning around in the spinny chair next to his desk.

“Yea. Geez. It’s not due for like, another week.”

“A week? We need to start working on it!” Dylan exclaimed. “Oh God we’re going to fail.”

I just laughed, reaching for his laptop.

“No come on don’t go on that...” Dylan groaned. I pouted.

“I’m bored.” I said.

“Then go on yours.”

“But I don’t have cute baby pictures.” I giggled, typing in his password.

“Oh God no.” Dylan said, jumping up. I squealed and grabbed the laptop, jumping off of his bed. I ran away from him and he tried to get it away from me.

“Oh come on! Just let me!” I laughed, ducking under his arm and darting around him.

“Come on Sam... Just give it up...” Dylan groaned, pouting.

“Oh no. That pouty face won’t work on me.” I said, shaking my head.

“But-”

“If you take this away from me, you’re doing extra sprints.” I said seriously.

“I thought we agreed that I don’t care about that. Look, I’ll personally show them to you later just please, not while I’m not there.” Dylan said. I frowned and set his laptop down on his desk.

“Fine.” I grumbled, then walked over to the cookies. I took a big bite, and smiled.

“These are those oatmeal ones.” I grinned, jumping on his bed and sitting cross legged.

“Ooh those ones she made last week?” Dylan asked excitedly, taking mine out of my hand and taking a bite.

“Hey!” I protested. He just winked at me and went back to sit in his chair.

“Alright. Let’s actually get to work.”
