Chapter 11
Chapter 11
“Dylan?” I whispered, rolling over.
“Mmm.” He mumbled, rolling towards me. I was laying on the ground, on the air mattress, and he was on his bed.
“I can’t sleep.” I whispered.
“Mmmhmm. Okay you do that.” Dylan muttered, then rolled over again.
I pushed the blankets off of me and carefully stood up. I pulled back the covers on Dylan’s bed and climbed in next to him. It was squished, considering it was just a twin bed, but he instantly wrapped his arms around me, pulling me closer to him.
“Hey.” He breathed, his breath rushing over my neck.
“Hi.” I replied, resting my head on the pillow next to his.
I couldn’t fall asleep again, and was wide awake until Kate came knocking on the door.
“Boys! Up! School!” She called, then was gone. Colton and Ethan both groaned, and Dylan just pulled me tighter to him.
“5 more minutes...” Dylan grumbled.
“Come on I’m hungry.” I laughed, whispering in his ear. Dylan’s eyes shot open.
“Hey.” He smiled, placing a kiss on my lips.
“EW!”
“GROSS!”
“GET A ROOM!”
The twins yelled at us. I just laughed and stood up.
Mornings here had become a regular time to tease Dylan and I.
“Come on. I have to get up.” I said, standing up from the bed.
Today was a big day. My dad had a press conference for his company, and all of us were required to attend, and be on the stand with him. I hadn’t really talked to my family in the past month, but I knew how important this was to my dad, and I knew that I had to be there.
“You’ll be at the game though?” Dylan asked, sitting up.
I nodded, grabbing my bag. “I might be a few minutes late... My flight lands at 6:15 or something, and the games at 7, but I’ll rush.” I smiled. “Be right back.”
I had to get ready here, then drive to our private airport where I would meet my family at the private jet, then we were flying to New York for the conference, and then I’d be back just in time for the game.
I got all ready, taking me longer than usual. I straightened my hair, actually put on makeup, and took pride in how I looked. I went back to Dylan’s room, and was happy that only he was there.
“Can you help me with my dress?” I asked, pulling on some underwear and a bra underneath my bathrobe. He nodded and I shrugged off the bathrobe. I reached for the dress that was on the chair, and Dylan smirked.
“Don’t you look nice.” Dylan grinned, walking up to me.
“Don’t be inappropriate.” I laughed, stepping into my dress. “Zip me up?”
“Can I not?” Dylan raised his eyebrows, his finger trailing down my back.
“Shut up.” I laughed, shaking my head.
“You’re such a tease.” Dylan groaned, zipping up my dress for me.
“I really have to go now...” I said softly, kissing his cheek. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” He replied.
I gave him a quick kiss on the lips, then grabbed my purse and headed downstairs to the kitchen.
“Hi Kate.” I smiled.
“Oooh don’t you look pretty.” She laughed.
“Why thank you.” I giggled.
“Want a muffin?” She asked, gesturing to the table, where all the other boys were.
“Oh yes please! I’ll see you at the game tonight.” I grinned, then headed out to my car. I quickly drove to the airport, dreading every second of it.
I had a feeling that this would turn out bad...

“Rick, your two eldest are quite the dancers, and your other daughters are really involved with acting and singing. You could say you’re a family of the arts, any reason why Samantha isn’t part of that?” One of the reporters asked.
I held my breath. My dad had said that he was going to tell the truth today, but right now, I doubted it.
“You know, I guess she doesn’t didn’t have the passion for those things... I uh, well Samantha was adopted at the age of 5, and she never was in to all the pink dresses and dancing and things.” My dad said.
I clenched my jaw. We only got half of the truth.
“I’m sorry, did you say she was adopted?”
“Yes. We first laid eyes on her in Italy, and we just knew that she was our little angel.” My mom said, smiling at me. I kept my eyes straight forwards.
“Samantha, how long have you known?”
“A month.” I said, keeping my answers short.
“How did it feel? To find out that your whole life had been a lie?”
“My whole life wasn’t a lie. I had a family who loved me more than my own could, and they’ve given me almost every opportunity that I could ask for.” I said, repeated the lines I’d been told to say.
“Each of your sisters excels in one area, do you have your ‘calling’ as we should say? Something that you could eat, sleep, and breathe 24/7 and not get tired of?”
I looked over at my dad.
Once look at his face told me enough.
“No... I don’t.” I said, the words coming out of my mouth like knives. “I have no artistic talent, and obviously, my family isn’t one to let us play sports.” I said.
Technically I wasn’t disobeying the rules...
However, I wasn’t allowed to talk for the rest of the press conference.
When we got back into the limo, my phone started ringing.
“We have an issue.” Coach said.
“Yes?” I asked.
“There’s a news crew here, wanting to talk to our quarterback, and ask him how he’s feeling for the state championships today, and I can’t exactly say oh, she’s in New York.” Coach sighed.
“Ooh. That’s a problem....” I said.
“Yea. How soon can you get here?” Coach asked.
“We still have 2 more interviews but-”
“No. You can go. You’ve already messed things up. We’ll get another flight.” My dad said harshly.
“But I can be at the school in an hour and a half.” I said, smiling as my dad told the driver to take me to the airport.
“Awesome!”
“Yea. Tell Dylan to put my stuff on my bench, I’ll get there as soon as I can.” I said, then hung up the phone.
There were always interviews and news things and pep rallies before state championships, and today, I just had to miss them all.
But now it looked like I’d be there.
Today’s game was the West High Cobras against the East High Beavers. You could say it was personal...
They were our city rival, and we were matched at team level...
******************************
“Hey! Sorry!” I exclaimed, rushing into the locker room. I’d made sure no one other than my team was in here.
“Nice dress.” Nate laughed as I kicked off my heels.
“Shut up.” I said, not looking at him. I grabbed my white tank top and spandex and ran into the bathroom to change. I rushed back out and put on my uniform as fast as I could.
“Oh shit.” I swore as I wiped my eyes and mascara came off on my hands.
I walked over to the sink and stuck my head under the cold water. I washed off all of the makeup, but my hair ended up curling up.
I just pulled the wet curls up into a pony tail, and dried my face on my shirt.
“Okay. What do I do for the interviews?” I asked coach, holding my helmet in my hands.
I’d never done interviews before. They always kept me out of the spot light, especially recently, as there had been a lot of controversy about people not wanting to make some teams co-ed.
“You don’t do it. As long as they see that you’re here, and you deny any comments, it’s all good.” Coach said. “Anyways, we’ve got to be out on the field for the dance in 2 minutes.”
Dylan was oddly quiet as we all prepared for the next part of the day. It was my favorite one. Our football team always made up a dance for the pep rally, it was awful of course, but if was fun.
“Hey...” I said quietly, walking up to Dylan.
“Hi.” He sighed. He was sitting on the floor, leaning against the locker. I sat next to him and gave him a soft look.
“You okay?” I asked.
“Yea, just tired and shit.” Dylan shrugged.
“Babe...” I whispered, resting my head on his shoulder. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Dylan whispered, kissing my forehead. “Are we still on for tonight? I paid my brothers to stay out of my room.” Dylan said, making me laugh.
“Yes. We’re still on for tonight.” I giggled, biting my lip. Today was our 2 month anniversary, and we had special plans for tonight.
“Yay.” He whispered.
“You paid your brothers?” I laughed. Dylan shrugged. “What’d you tell them it was for?”
“I told them that I was going to have sex with you and if they didn’t want me to kill them that they would stay well away from the room.” Dylan laughed.
“Oh my GOD!” I giggled.
