Apu – AH-pooh (Quechua for 'superior'); Peruvian mountain spirits; plural apukuna (AH-pooh-KOO-na)

ddraig – THRA-eeg (Welsh for 'dragon'). Plural ddreigiau (THRA-eeg-eeAI). Author note: in the Welsh language, 'dragon' translates to 'draig'. The double Ds only occur after the word for 'the' ('y'), for example, 'Y Ddraig Goch' means 'The Dragon Red'. For the sake of consistency and because they are referring to the name of arace, I have left them with the same spelling throughout the series.

Mo chreach – MAW HD-akh (Scottish Gaelic exclamation meaning 'goodness' or 'alas'; literally 'my ruin')

Nwyfre – NOO-iv-ruh (Welsh for 'sky'; a Druidic concept referring to a person's life and consciousness; 'life force'. Nwyfre's physical representation is the red dragon on the Welsh flag)

Serpiente – SER-pee-EN-tay (Spanish for 'snake' or 'serpent'); plural Serpientes (SER-pee-EN-tes)

Urquhart – OOR-khart (with the 'kh' pronounced gutterally, like the 'ch' in Scottish 'loch')

Uturunku – OOH-too-ROON-koo (Quechua for 'jaguar'); a mountain in the Andes range in Peru
