Chapter 4

                                                                       (SnowyStar's POV)

What is this place...?

I think I was in the woods. It was so misty, I couldn't see where I was going. I walked around aimlessly, and found the bones of a dragon laying in front of me. Flies flew around them, landing occasionally. I looked away, horrified. I tried running away, running away to shelter, but a tree blocked my way.

I turned around, another tree blocking my way. It was like they were taunting me, but I ignored them. Each time I turned around, trees blocked my way. It was like being trapped.

"Someone, help!" I cried. No answer. I felt the wind brush lightly against my scales, it was cold. The leaves rustled quietly. It looked like the trees were getting closer and closer each time I looked away. My eyes darted around for some type of escape. It all felt so... Real.

I saw a dragon's head poke right through the tangle of branches. He had nice curved horns, navy-blue. They were very shiny, they reminded me of the deep ocean when the sun shines on it. The rest of his scales were white, like mine, but dirty with mud and dirt. The dragon fully emerged from the other side of the tree-wall. I stepped back.

This dragon was see-through. See-through. I stopped lashing my tail when I saw his eyes were clouded with pain and sadness.

"5 months left.." He said quietly, his talon reaching out to touch me. It went right through me. He heaved a long sigh.

"I love you, my little Snowdrop"

___________(Dream Ended)

I woke up with a jolt, and I realized it was all a dream. It was dark, the night sky filled with endless stars. I admired the beauty. It was like the sky was sprinkled with snowflakes. I froze. Snowdrop, the name flashed through my mind like lightning.

How did that dragon know my nickname...?

I finally thought. He didn't look familiar, at least I thought he didn't. I shrugged off the thought and went back to sleep, hoping I didn't have another dream.

I was on patrol. Again. I walked through the forest, moving vines that hung low from the trees so I could move onward. I smelt the sea from a distance, and I felt like I should follow the breeze. Instincts taking over, I walked toward the salty smell.

I emerged from the leaves, and saw only the sea. A little island caught my eye in the distance, and I saw there was a hut on the shore of it. I looked around, cautiously, hoping no one was following me, and I sprang up into the air.

My wings instantly caught the constant air flowing from the land. It felt nice to have a warm breeze brushing against my scales, unlike the dream. It was so dark and gloomy in there. I shook the dream out of my mind and kept flying toward the hut, not looking back. I was hoping to find some medicine berries for Arrow and Scorch. They had some cuts from the fight they had yesterday, and I didn't want them getting infected.

I landed on the shore of the island, where I saw the hut. It was in good-shape, so someone was probably still living in it. My talons sunk into the sand a little each time I took a step.

"Snowy!" A voice said. I jumped, scared by the sudden noise. I turned around and saw Scorch.

"Why are you here?" I hissed. He tilted his head to the side.

"I saw you going out-" "Shhhhh!!" I hissed again. We heard a snore come from inside the hut.

"I saw you going out of camp to patrol." He whispered this time.  I sighed. "Well, since you're here," I flicked my tail thoughtfully,"you can help me." Another snore came from the hut, louder this time.

I led Scorch quietly into the hut. We saw a Seawing, sleeping peacefully. Keys dangled from his neck and clinked whenever his belly rose up and down. He had a nice shade of dark green for his scales, and light green for his underbelly.

"Okay, we need to be very-" I was cut off by a noise. Something crashed, it sounded like glass breaking. I froze, staring at the Seawing.

Please don't wake up, please don't wake up

The dragon made a noise of protest and continued on sleeping. Scorch and I exchanged a 'that-was-a-close-one' glance and walked more cautiously this time. I looked around (making sure not to drop glass things. *Ahem* Scorch), and found some things we could use. Like the medical berries I was hoping for. Scorch called me over to where he was very quietly.

"What did you find?" I asked him once I got to where he was. I left the berries at the tables. Scorch was in a secluded area of the hut, curtained off by palm leaves. The sun filtered through the leaves, making light stripes on the floor.

"Well, I found a door," Scorch said, his talons wrapping around the handle,"But it's locked." He turned the handle, showing me what he said was true. We would need a key, of course, but we didn't know where one was. It felt like something was whispering in my ear, telling me something, but I ignored the feeling and started to search the hut. I tried remembering if I saw a key anywhere, but I couldn't.

We looked in drawers, under covers, under stools, but we had no luck. I sighed. Right when I was about to leave, a glimmer of light caught my eye. I squinted and slowly turned to look in the direction the light was coming from, silently hoping the SeaWing hadn't woken up just yet. And there was the key I remembered seeing from earlier.

Scorch wondered what was taking me so long and came back into the hut, seeing what I found. I started thinking of the most safe and easy ways we could take the key.  Happy with my desicion, I    told him the plan and started quickly. Scorch's talons slowly took the back of the key-string gently, but kept a firm grip once the string was safely tucked in his palms. He nodded to me, showing me I could tug at the other side now.

The SeaWing snored as I placed my talons on the key. If he were to wake up, it would be all over for us. I wondered if we were doing the right thing, coming and taking some medical berries from a Seawing.

I looked at Scorch, and we were ready to pull up the key. We pulled at just the right time, making sure we weren't viciously choking the peaceful Seawing. We went very slowly. Right when the key was just over the Seawing's head, he sneezed. It Was Disgusting. A little bit of gooey slime oozed down my chest.

I lost all balance and accidentally fell, thudding across the floor. The key flung from my talons, hitting a vase of flowers and breaking it, making the shattering noise. I watched Scorch catch the key as it ricocheted from the wall towards him. He looked at me sternly, and I glanced at back sheepishly, the goop still making it's journey.

We quietly walked back to the secluded area,  and the sun went down just a bit. Scorch got the key out and put it into the lock, twisting it counter-clockwise a few times. We tried turning the handle again, and it didn't resist.

We came into the closet silently, not daring to talk. I was sure the SeaWing would wake up any moment. The room was eerily still and dark, and Scorch blended in perfectly with the darkness. We hurriedly took the contents out, not sure what they were. One of the things we grabbed felt paper-y, and I felt a smooth part of wood holding the paper. Scorch claimed he found the same exact thing.

I piled all the goods in one group, and were a bit shocked with the income. They were all scrolls. Scrolls of the legends of Morphwings, Darkwings, Terrawings-

Wait. Scorch and Arrow looked exactly like a Darkwing and a Terrawing. Their build was the same. I thought they were just different looking MudWings and DarkWings. Mother flashed through my mind again. "Snowy... You're a SpiritWing" Rang in my mind. I shook my thoughts away and looked at Scorch.

"I just realized," Scorch said, his talon tapping on the floor. "How come we couldn't have just burned the door, or clawed our way in?"

I thought about the question for a moment or two and replied,"Well, if we set the door on fire, the hut would be in flames in a matter of moments. Plus, i've never used my fire all my life," I clutched my neck gently. "No fire came out. Just a puff of smoke. As for the clawing the door idea, it would've been too loud, and the Seawing would've woken up and found us."

"Who says I haven't?" A voice, gruff and irritated, came from the entrance of the curtained-off area. The SeaWing looked bigger when he wasn't curled up and sleeping. A scar ran along his side, now that I looked more carefully.

"Heyyyy buddy!" Scorch said awkwardly, some of the scrolls behind him,"We were just, checking this place out-"

"What are you doing with my scrolls!" The Seawing demanded suddenly. "You might crease one!"

The Seawing snatched 2 scrolls. One called,'The Disappearing SpiritWings', and the other,The Mysteries of DarkWings Revealed'. Both books had pictures of male and female DarkWings and SpiritWings on the cover.

He scanned the scrolls for any damages. He eyed us angrily, and hissed,"Get out." We stood there, not quite hearing him.

"Are you dragonets deaf? I said GET OUT," He roared. Reluctantly, we started making our way to the lichen that closed off this area. The Seawing looked at the scroll about Darkwings, eyed it closely, and looked back at us. His scowl was gone, and it was replaced by a horror-struck face. He pointed his talon towards Scorch.

"Y-You.." He said,"You are the children of destruction. DIE!"

Suddenly, 5 dragons popped out of the shadows, 3 going after Scorch and 2 going after me, with their talons outstretched. They knocked us down, and their talons made their journey to our necks.
