12. The Toe Biting Sword

"Hey Calvin!" Braedon exclaimed cheerfully.

"Breaden! It's ten in the night. Everything okay?" Calvin asked, eyes squinting because he had turned the light on after semi-sleeping for a while.

"What? Of course I am okay. What would happen to me? I thought we were partying today!" He said, a little confused, "Wait, you were sleeping?"

"It's ten in the night, and we barely had any homework, of course I am sleeping." Calvin said, yawning, "What gave you the idea that we were partying today?"

"Well, you said that your parents are not home and we don't have any immediate assignments. What was I supposed to think?"

"You were supposed to think that since we are not studying today, we'll have a good night's sleep."

"What?" Braeden exclaimed, sounding way to surprised for Calvin's liking, "You actually study at nights?"

"Wait, you mean to say...never mind. Now that you're here, let's have a movie night. I couldn't sleep anyways."

Braedon poured, "That's not what I meant with party. At least, I hope we are watching horror."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Calvin woke up to the sound of his old, human, alarm. He smiled remembering the days he used an alarm instead of just using his phone. He instinctively looked at his bedside table for his phone and then remembered where he was and how phones didn't exist here.

He found a note on his table. It was old type of paper, the sort used in manuscript. A parchment. He hesitatingly reached for it, wondering if it would break at touch.

It didn't. It was surprisingly tough for all it's fragile looks.

Dear Calvin,

I know, we went away the very next day we came. We were not planning on going today, honestly, but we needed to go today, after the whole fiasco with Finney.

Your mom says I used too many commas, but I am too lazy to write it all over again. It's so good to write with a quill again. And no, don't you dare make a Harry Potter reference.

We have breakfast ready in the kitchen. Its looks gross, but try it. Its a specialty of air kingdom.

I don't know how long we will be, but Heather will make you lunch.

Go have a house tour. Mathew only got the main areas clean, so don't panic if some of the rooms are dust filled.

Have a good day.

Yours,

ABC

Calvin sighed. His dad was never going to let him live down that. After writing informal letters for English Grammar all day, he had accidently written ABC instead of Calvin, and his dad never forgot it, or let him forget it.

The breakfast was a red-ish, goo-ish, liquid-ish stuff. It didn't look very edible, but trusting that his mother had not warned him of any practical jokes from him dad, he took a bite.

It was amazing.

There was no way to describe it. It was sweet and sour and spicy and crunchy and soft at the same it. And somehow, it blended perfectly.

The bowl was soon empty and he went to tour around the house.

He had already seen the kitchen and his room. He hopped into another room.

It looked like an underground arena, despite the irony that they were in the sky. It was the size of a school assembly hall and was painted in shades of blue and yellow like the other parts of the house.

It seemed to be a training centre of sorts.

It's right side was filled with sand, about five inches deep. It was very soft. Calvin figured it was so that one didn't get hurt if they fell.

On the left side, there were dart boards with bows and arrows arranged on hooks on the wall. There were a few open books placed here and there. Calvin knelt down and opened one, it was about sword techniques for experts.

It was made of the same manuscript material as the note, and the coat of dust didn't make it look any less...well, old.

He picked up a sword from the ground. Now, Calvin didn't knew a lot about swords, but he could tell this one was well used and made.

It had a leather handle, with a loop as seen in scissors on one side. Its blade, though probably untouched for fifteen years didn't look rusted. It needed polishing, sure, but nothing like what he had expected.

He tried to swing the sword above his head, like he had seen in movies but it was too heavy and the sword clattered down towards his toes. With surprising reflexes he pulled back his feet, and he missed his toes from getting cut off by an inch.

The sword made a loud clanking noise in the other silent house and it made Calvin jump out of his skin.

There were various other instruments and ...things. Calvin didn't know what they were, scattered around the room. Some of them he had seen in movies and the others were totally strange.

He decided he would come back here later with his parents, and they could perhaps give a demonstration.

The other rooms in the house were mostly dusty offices and guest rooms. Two of the offices had name plates on the door, that looked cleaned and he suspected they were his parents.

Well, duh, Calvin. It says Sally McKay and David McKay.

The room that he liked the best, the shining star of the house, the largest one (it was three large spheres fused together) was the library. It was not dusty, but it clearly looked unused.

He found a note on one of the table in the middle in him mom's handwriting. When he looked at the other tables, similar notes were placed on all of them. As well as at. regular intervals on all the shelves. God, mom!

Calvin,

I forbid you to come into this room. You'll end up spending the whole day here and forget to eat. Besides, you are far too under-knowledged to understand any of these. Have fun, don't read all day.

Mom

Calvin groaned, "Under-knowledged is not even a word mom." And then said after a moment, "Great, now I am talking to myself."

Despite what his mother said, he read all morning, and by the end of the morning, he knew a great deal about angels and fairies and stuff. He wrote it all down in a book.

There are three types of species in the air kingdom, fairies, angels and birds. There are about 1000 air people, 600 of them in either of the above three sections and the rest are hybrids. They would learn more about hybrids in the second year of their school.

Birds were mostly birds of predators, like eagle, vulture, etc. Fairies have lots of magical abilities, like wizards, but not exactly the same. However, the fairy magic worked mostly on the will of mind less than spells.

Angels, as I know, have a sort of sixth sense. For a very weak angel, it would as much as sensing something bad or good is going to happen, or waking up in very energetic mood if something good is going to happen. For a very powerful angel, it would be full fledged visions, like that of demigods, about something going to happen, or very strong inclination of something.

From the 1000 people in the air kingdom, about 500 people lived in the main city, that I am in now, and the rest live in the wild. Fairy's for example like to live in Spiunknds, an exclusively fairy place, that is a great tourist attraction. Angels live in Angbronds, etc.

There is only one school in the main city, which is called, Warpoeist, a school of warriors, because most demon slayers are from here. Which is expected, since it is the only school. There is no other option than to come from here. Supernaturals sometimes lack common sense, to be honest.

Also, most elemental don't know how to fly until they join the school. That's a relief, at least. If everyone could fly and I couldn't, It'd be like going to a math school and not knowing addition.

*shudders*

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have wrote text write here. Looks weird when written on paper.

There is also a very interesting segment about how and why wings sprout from different places in different species, but dipping this quilling the the ink pot after every other word is very annoying. I feel bad from Hermione. Okay, Susan is yelling from all the way across from the street that lunch is ready, so I gotta go.

Goodbye!

Author's note:

I coined the term supernatural for my characters way before I knew that such a TV series exist, and now I can't find a word better fitting than supernatural to fit. So, I'll keep it, but disclaimer, no, I have not copied the TV series, I don't even know what it's about.
