Chapter one

"They will kill you if they know who you are." The last words my mum said to me echo through my mind as I sip the cappuccino on my lunch tray. I gag in realization that the cafeteria staff forgot to restock the machine with sugar. I smell a strong fragrance of chicken coming from the direction of the queue and few seconds later, the bell rings, causing me to sigh. I pick up the tray, but as I turn, I slam into someone, emptying the remains of the cappuccino on his shirt. I try to keep my balance as I proceed to trip and fall on the ground, knocking my glasses right off.

The energetic cafeteria turns dull, the loud ringing metallic sounds of lunch trays and monotonous babble on turns to silence. I sit up and begin to crawl on the floor in search of my glasses. Everything is blurry, I need to find my glasses and quick.

"Everyone, get out," a male slowly states through clenched teeth, his voice, dangerously low.

"I said, get out!" he screams. A deafening noise comes crashing onto my eardrums as mobs upon mobs of teenagers rush out of the cafeteria.

He stands right in front of me. I look up, squinting my eyes to see who it is. He squats, grabbing a handful of my long black curly hair. All I want to do is scream at him, hit him, throw my hands at him, but I cant. I can't put mum and I in danger so I wince in pain as he pulls me by the hair, causing our eyes to meet.

"Rex Levie," I gasp, quickly breaking eye contact. He sent quivers down my spine.

Rex Levie was the oldest among the Levie Triplets and the son of the school owner: my late dad's arch-enemy, Sam Levie. Everyone knew the Levie Triplets were as ruthless as their father. "Please God, don't let him recognize me," I shut my eyes and internally pray.

He tilts his head and looks at me for a few more seconds and huffs, "Do you want to get expelled, poor girl?"

He then pushes me forcefully. I land on my back, my head hitting the ground. I watch as he passes his hands through his brown hair and stomps his feet on my glasses, cracking the frame along with the lens beneath him.

I remain motionless on the ground and wait for the pain in my head to subside

"That's enough! She's just a girl" I hear a voice say. He pushes Rex away from me by the shoulder. That is the last thing I remember before the encroaching darkness finally engulfs me.

A FEW HOURS LATER

I sit up in a bed and rest my head on my fingertips. My head is pounding fiercely. I rub my temples, trying to massage the pain away. It doesn't work, of course. Simply keeping my eyes open is becoming a chore. "Why am I here?" I think out loud. I grimace, my eyebrows furrow with discomfort as I try to recall the events that might have led me here.

"Are you ok? The school nurse left to use the ladies'."

I feel like the National Brigade had had a parade all over my body. Repeatedly. I've never felt better.

"Yes." my throat hurts so much, my voice comes out in a feeble whisper.

I look in the direction of who spoke to me; Styles Levie, the youngest member of the Levie Triplets. I nod and take in his features as he walks closer: black sweatshirt, skinny jeans with high laced up boots. He is tall with lots of lean muscle, has tousled and light brown hair. He notices I am straining my eyes and staring at him.

"Good," he rolls his eyes, takes out a shirt from his bag and tosses it on my face, "Tomorrow, same time, cafeteria. Wash out the stains."

Before I reply, he turns his heel and heads out of the door. I look around, making sure the coast is clear before fishing out my phone from my pocket. I dial Martin's number. He picks up at the 3rd ring.

"Martin," I whisper.

"Good day Madam, is there something wrong?"

"No, everything is fine. I'm sending you a picture of a shirt, I need the same size and color before tomorrow."

"I will do just that, Madam. Any other?"

"I'd need new glasses. Pick me up at 3:00 pm at the abandoned park," I say.

Before he responds, the school nurse walks in. I hang up immediately, hiding my phone in the sheets. She smiles at me and takes a seat beside me.

"You'd be fine," she states, bringing out her thermometer.

"Oh no, I won't."

My brain quickly protests the added strain on its faculties and accelerates the headache meter to 'blinding'. I groan, placing my head back on the pillow.

That's a wrap for today. Hope you enjoyed this chapter. Don't forget to hit that star and leave a comment. Xoxo
