Tears in Rain
Third Person POV:
Earth-928
Miguel is doing what he does almost every single day, stare into the screen of his holographic computer and enjoy the memories of him with his daughter
After that, he receives an alert from LYLA on his watch
LYLA: I know this is a bad time, but you gotta see this...
She shows him a new anomaly, located on Earth 25233
Miguel: What's going on, LYLA?
LYLA: We've detected a multiversal anomaly from Earth 25233. It appears to be a replicant...scary thing is this one looks just like Y/N. But his name is Roy and he looks older.
As Miguel types away at his computer terminal, he accesses various databases and surveillance systems to gather as much information as possible about the replicant from Earth 25233. He sifts through reports, surveillance footage, and any available data to understand the replicant's movements and behavior patterns
Miguel: What are his motives?
LYLA: It's still unclear...he slaughtered 23 people in three nights...most importantly, he killed the Spider-Man of his world. He looks like a human, except in the emotions part. So the people that designed him reckoned he might develop his own emotional responses. Hate, love, fear, anger, envy. So they built in a fail-safe protocol
Miguel: Which is what?
LYLA: Four-year lifespan.
Miguel: And how old is he?
LYLA: Three years, eleven months, twenty-nine days
Miguel: I'm gonna tell Y/N to take care of it.
He types on his watch to contact Y/N
...
Hours earlier...
Earth-685
Y/N finds himself taken aback by Gwen's unexpected kiss. His expression reveals a mixture of surprise, confusion, and perhaps a hint of concern as he processes the situation
Y/N: Gwen...I...what are you doing?
Gwen takes a step back, a mix of regret and vulnerability in her eyes.
Gwen: I thought...I don't know what I thought. I just needed to feel something different.
Y/N remains silent, waiting for her to elaborate
Gwen: Jess and her warnings, the pressure of this superhero life...I needed a distraction...I needed someone I could rely on. I almost had an anxiety attack when she said those things about you.
Y/N: What things?
Gwen: She...she said that you look at me differently. That it's more than just friendship...that you're still hung up on your ex-girlfriend.
Y/N's expression shifts, a mixture of surprise and concern washing over his features.
Y/N: Gwen, that's not true. I mean, sure, I miss her, but I don't enjoy being with you because I see her in you. It's...something more than that. I can't explain.
Gwen hugs him, seeking solace and comfort in Y/N's reassuring presence. Despite the height difference, their hug speaks volumes of the trust and closeness they share
She looks up at him, seeking his eyes. And just as they were about to kiss, May appears at the doorstep
Y/N: Great timing, mom.
May: Oh, uhh...sorry. Hi Gwen!
Gwen offers a polite smile in return.
Gwen: Hi, Mrs. Parker
May: Just wanted to say that dinner's almost ready. John prepared a nice spaghetti alla carbonara. Care to join us, Gwen?
Gwen: Sure.
They get in the house and head towards the kitchen
Gwen: (whispering) Who's John?
Y/N: (whispering) He's a guy my mom's been seeing. She's happy, so I'm not gonna get angry about it. Besides, he's a cool dude.
As they join May and John at the dinner table, the atmosphere is a mix of familial warmth and a touch of awkwardness
John: Who is this young lady?
Y/N: John, this is...Gwanda. She's a friend of mine...from South Africa.
Gwen smiles at Y/N's quick thinking, playing along with the story she once made up almost a year ago
Gwen: Yes, I'm Gwanda. Nice to meet you, John.
John: Pleasure's mine, Gwanda. So, what brings you to New York?
Gwen: Just visiting some friends. It's a beautiful city.
The dinner proceeds with casual conversation, though Gwen's mind is preoccupied with the complexities of her relationship with Y/N and the recent revelations from Jess
After dinner, Y/N and Gwen go up to his room
The atmosphere is charged with unspoken tension and the weight of unresolved feelings. They settle onto Y/N's bed, the air thick with the shared intimacy of the moment.
Y/N: So...about earlier.
Gwen: Yeah...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make things awkward.
Y/N: It's not your fault. It's just...complicated. I like you, but...I'm confused right now. Sorry
Gwen: In every other universe, Gwen Stacy falls for Spider-Man. And in every other universe...it doesn't end well.
Their hands get closer on the bed
Gwen's eyes shimmer with a mixture of longing and apprehension as she meets Y/N's gaze, her heart echoing the tumultuous rhythm of his.
Y/N: Maybe...maybe this time, it could be different. We lost some important people. You lost Peter...I lost Gwen. But it doesn't mean we have to keep losing.
They look into each other's eyes and for a moment, they lose themselves
Y/N: But I don't care anymore...I can't go on living my life while I know I'm here in my Earth and you're out there...either on your Earth, or Hobie's, whatever.
Y/N continues, his voice sincere and filled with longing.
Y/N: I don't want to keep losing. I want to build something, Gwen. And if it's with you, even across dimensions, I'm willing to try.
Gwen's eyes glisten with unshed tears as she absorbs the weight of his words
Gwen: Screw it...
Their kiss is sudden, passionate, a collision of longing and desire. In that moment, all doubts and uncertainties seem to fade away, replaced by the raw intensity of their connection
However, their make out session is cut short by Miguel calling him
Y/N answers and a hologram of Miguel appears on his watch
Y/N: What is it this time?
Miguel: We got a situation. Get your ass in here.
Y/N: Can't it wait? I'm kinda in the middle of something here.
Miguel: I don't care what you're doing. When we have a problem, you show up. You feel me?
Y/N: Got it.
He ends the call
Y/N: Asshole.
After warning his mother, Y/N and Gwen suit up and go to the Spider Society
Y/N types 928 on his watch and they get in the portal
Earth-928
Again, Y/N fails to stick the landing once he gets out of the portal. Gwen, however, manages to land gracefully nearby
Y/N: Okay...I'm done. Let's just go see the big man
After that, they go to see Miguel to know what he wants
Arriving at Miguel's "office", Y/N asks him what was so urgent
Y/N: I'm here. What do you want me to do that you can't do it by yourself?
Miguel descends from his floating platform, his expression a mix of concern and urgency.
Miguel: Y/N, Gwen...thanks for coming. We've got a situation. There's a replicant from another dimension causing chaos. It looks exactly like you, Y/N.
Y/N: A replicant? Like the ones in the Blade Runner movies?
Miguel: Yes, and this one is going to reach his four years soon. So you know what happens
Gwen: He'll...expire?
Miguel: Exactly. LYLA is locating him. He's yours, Y/N. Name's Roy.
Y/N: Why me?
Miguel: Because he looks like you, talks like you, and probably thinks like you. You're the best chance we've got to understand him and stop him before it's too late
Y/N sighs deeply
Y/N: Fine...let's find Roy.
He types 25233 on his watch and steps into the portal to Roy's Earth
...
Earth-25233
Los Angeles
Year 2019
Y/N finds himself in a dystopian world that bears a striking resemblance to the gritty and cyberpunk atmosphere of "Blade Runner." The cityscape is bathed in neon lights, casting an eerie glow on the rain-soaked streets. Skyscrapers loom overhead, their towering structures obscured by layers of smog
Y/N: Okay...I'm here.
LYLA: I've highlighted his last known location. Be careful.
As he navigates through the dimly lit alleyways, Y/N remains vigilant, knowing that Roy could be hiding anywhere
With each step, Y/N braces himself for the inevitable confrontation with the replicant, knowing that the fate of the multiverse hangs in the balance
He goes to a near apartment, hoping to find Roy. He glances around, his eyes scanning the area for any signs of movement or activity. The flickering lights cast eerie shadows on the walls, heightening the sense of unease that permeates the atmosphere
Y/N: This place is scary...
Y/N finds bodies of replicants lying on the floor of the apartment, one of them is a woman, looking like she just got shot by someone. Y/N's senses sharpen as he instinctively moves carefully, his heart pounding with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension.
Y/N: Who's there?
No one answers. After that, LYLA calls him
LYLA: Y/N, we found another sighting of Roy. He's near the Tyrell Corporation.
Y/N: Tyrell? In Blade Runner, they created the replicants. Is he...damnit. Do we have an Eldon Tyrell in this dimension?
LYLA: Yes, we do. Eldon Tyrell is the founder and CEO of the Tyrell Corporation in this dimension as well
Y/N swings on his way to the Tyrell Corporation
...
Meanwhile...
Tyrell Corporation HQ
Roy meets with Dr. Eldon Tyrell to see if he can grant his only wish...
Roy: It's not an easy thing to meet your maker
Eldon: And what can he do for you?
Roy: Can the maker repair what he makes?
Eldon: Would you...like to be modified?
Roy walks up to Dr. Tyrell, closing the distance between them
Roy: I had in mind something a little more...radical
Eldon: What...what seems to be the problem?
Roy: Death.
Eldon: Well, I'm afraid that's a little out of my jurisdiction. You-
Roy gets closer to the man who designed him, this time, making Eldon step back a little bit
Roy: I want more life...father.
Eldon: The facts of life. To make an alteration in the evolvement of an organic life system is fatal. A coding sequence cannot be revised once it's been established.
Roy: Why not?
Eldon: Because by the secon day of incubation, any cells that have undergone reversion mutations give rise to revertant colonies like rats leaving a sinking ship. Then the ship sinks.
Roy starts getting angry, he knows he's running out of time and that Dr. Tyrell is the only one who can help him
Roy: What about EMS recombination?
Eldon: We've already tried it. Ethyl methane sulfonate is an alkylating agent and a potent mutagen. It created a virus so lethal the subject was dead before he left the table
Roy: Then a repressor protein that blocks the operating cells.
Eldon: Wouldn't obstruct replication, but it does give rise to an error in replication. So that the newly formed DNA strand carries a mutation and you've got a virus again. But, uhh...all of this is...academic. You were made as well as we could make you.
Roy: But not to last.
Eldon: The light that burns twice as bright burns as half as long. And you have burned so very, very brightly, Roy. Look at you. You're the prodigal son. Quite a prize.
Eldon ruffles Roy's hair
Roy: I've done...questionable things.
Eldon: Also extraordinary things. Revel in your time!
Roy: Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for.
Y/N cautiously enters the Tyrell Corporation HQ, the dimly lit corridors casting long shadows around him
In one of the secluded chambers, he finds Roy confronting Eldon Tyrell. The tension is palpable, and Y/N witnesses the exchange of words between the creator and his creation
He also sees Roy, in a surprising gesture, decide to embrace Tyrell, seemingly seeking solace
CRACK!
Roy's powerful grip shatters Eldon's skull like dry wood as the doctor screams in pain for help
Y/N: NO!
Y/N watches Dr. Tyrell's body fall on the floor and sees Roy with blood on his hands
Roy turns to face Y/N, a glint of defiance in his artificial eyes. The confrontation between the two versions of Y/N, one human and one replicant, becomes imminent
Y/N: Why did you kill him?!
Roy says nothing and runs away, making Y/N chase him through the corridors of the Tyrell Corporation
Roy: You better get it up. Or I'm gonna have to kill ya.
Y/N keeps chasing him, but the android has some superhuman speed of his own as well
Roy: Six, seven...go to hell or go to heaven
The chase leads Y/N and Roy to the rooftop, where the city sprawls beneath them in a mesmerizing display of neon lights and artificial glow. The air is tense, and Y/N knows he needs to stop Roy before more harm is done
Y/N tries attacking Roy, but the android catches both his arms. Struggling against the relentless force of Roy's grip, Y/N feels the strain coursing through his body. With each passing moment, the pressure intensifies, threatening to overwhelm him as his webshooters shatter under the immense strain. The rain falls down, mirroring the tumult of the battle unfolding on the rooftop
Clutching the edge of the rooftop with all his strength, Y/N struggles to maintain his grip as Roy's relentless assault threatens to send him hurtling into the abyss below
Even with all his spider powers, Y/N feels himself close to slipping and falling down to the streets below due to the wet surface and the poor condition of the roof itself
Roy: Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? That's what it is to be a slave.
But just as Y/N was about to fall, Roy grabs his arm and pulls him up, making Y/N more confused
Roy sits down in front of him and starts talking to Y/N of all the memories he had in his four years
Roy: I've...seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time...to die.
As Roy accepts his fate with grace and dignity, Y/N is moved by the replicant's humanity, recognizing the value and significance of his experiences and the profound impact they have on his understanding of identity, memory, and the essence of what it means to be alive
The replicant lowers his head and just...expires.
Y/N: Goodbye, Roy...
After that, he contacts LYLA
Y/N: I'm...done. Roy's dead.
LYLA: Okay Y/N...get back here and let's get you looked at.
