Attack at Dawn
Sarina's P.O.V
I was awoken in the middle of the night, a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach growing tighter.
Maybe I need to poop?
I looked over at the clock, it was 3 in the morning, and I silently thanked my father for teaching me how to tell time when I was younger, even though it was technically illegal.
I missed my parents, I knew they lived somewhere in the city, and I had so many questions for them.
Did they miss me too?
Did I have any siblings?
Would they be proud of where I am now?
Questions I had almost every night, ones I knew may never get answered. But that's okay, I'll believe they were happy, and that they would be proud of me.
Getting out of the rabbit hole I was slowly falling down, I sat up in bed, starring around at the pink room I was living in. But then I noticed something, how quiet it was.
Yes I know it's nighttime and most people should be sleeping, but not in the castle there were always people mulling around, working on things that could only be done at night.
I often did that when I was a slave. So I knew the silence was nice but not welcomed.
Thinking about possibly alerting Garreth and Enderson made me get of bed and head towards the door. But would they think I was just scared? Or that I couldn't handle myself?
I couldn't, not in a real fight at least, but they didn't need to know that.
Deciding to just rip the bandaid off and tell them or at the very least wake them up, I quickly and quietly open the door. Luckily their room is right next door so at least I didn't have to go far.
I debated about knocking but I thought now was not the time to be worrying about pleasantries. Something was wrong and they needed to know.
So with effort I managed to pry open the door just enough for me to squeeze in. I silently walked towards the huge canopy of a bed.
Aww they look so cute when they're not speaking
"Garreth!" I whisper yelled. When I got no response I walked to the other side of the bed to see if it would work on Enderson.
"Enderson!" I tried
Nothing.
Okay time to take it up a notch, I walked back over to where Garreth was sleeping, I got down to where his ear was and whispered" Garreth" right into his ear.
His eye sprang open, and he jerked his body into a sitting position, he still looked extremely tired but at least he was awake.
His movement must have caused Enderson to wake up because I heard him groan.
"Sarina?" Garreth asked his voice thick with sleep.
"Are you okay?" Enderson asked, and oh god there sleepy voices were so smexy...
"Something's wrong" I managed to grit get out, my brain only now slightly hazy.
"What do you mean?" Enderson asks now more alert, he practically jumps out of bed and goes to shut the door, and then look out the window.
While Garreth gently wraps his arms around me and pulls me on to the bed. He places me in his lap, and no doubt a shade of red that could only be described as 'lobster' appeared on my face.
"I don't see anything" Enderson states still starring out the window.
"Listen... it's too quiet" I whisper towards him.
They both listen intently,"you're right, it's never this quiet around here" Garreth states.
"We need to alert the guards, immediately!" Enderson rushes out. They both jump up towards the door, but stop for a moment and look back towards me.
"What should I do?" I nervously ask.
"We can't leave her unprotected" Garreth argues.
"But we need to warn the people in the palace about an attack-"
"Attack!" I blurt out in surprise.
"Okay I'll take Sarina down to where the palace workers sleep, you go and alert the guards of the possible danger" Garreth states they both nod in agreement.
"Uh guys?" I ask.
"Yes" they both answer in unison.
"You wanna maybe put some clothes on?" I ask amusement making it hard to speak properly. They both glance down at there boxers, and with inhuman speed they are dressed and ready to go.
But not in their usual suits, no they were dressed in armor.
Dressed to kill.
I didn't have time to linger on their appearance, because before long Garreth is dragging me down into the servants quarters in the belly of the palace.
As we got lower and lower it started to look more like what I was used to. Old, rusty and dirty living quarters, and it was freezing on top of that.
When I realized how cold it was I remembered I was only in my robe and nightgown...
"Uh Garreth?" I whispered.
"Yes?"
"I'm still only in my sleep ware..." I say.
He stops dead in his tracks, looks over at me slightly the realization seeming to hit him and blush spread across his face, and soon one spreads across mine.
He clears his throat before saying " we need to keep going" and he starts on his way again.
When we finally reached the servants quarters, it smelled. And I wasn't the only one who noticed, Garreth started sniffing the air, clearly searching for something.
"Stay here" he orders and opens the final door leading to the servants quarters.
"Like I'm going to stay here" I huff before marching my way through the doors.
The second I open the door the smell of blood and death assault my nose. The room is littered with dead bodies, and I let out a blood curdling scream in response.
Garreth is immediately wrapping his arms around me and shoving my head into his chest. Trying to shield me from that horrific sight but it was too lóate the image was in graved into my brain.
He quickly pulled the two of us out of the room, he looked down at me for a moment, and looked as if he was mulling something over before I heard him mumble 'fuck it' and scooped me into his arms bridal style.
I was so numb u didn't realize that in almost the blink of an eye we no longer near the servants quarters.
Instead we were in the soilders training field, and I peered around from Garreth's arms all the soldiers were dressed similarly to what Garreth and Enderson put on.
I could faintly hear Enderson giving them all instructions to search the palace grounds, warning them that someone was definitely here. I assume Garreth must have told him what we found but I wasn't paying much attention the bodies were still at the forefront of my mind.
"Sarina!" Garreth called.
"Oh yes?" I answered, still feeling dazed.
"I'm going to put you in the library with guards I'm needed out here, okay?" He asks though I felt like it wasn't really a choice.
So I just nodded my head, and he gently placed me back on the ground. A group of heavily armed men came to surround me.
They started ushering me back towards the palace, and after a short walk we were in the library, but holy crap if I needed a distraction this was definitely it.
It was massive, who needed this many book in the first place?
"Your majesty the other's are this way" a guard instructs, with a rather feminine voice too. It's then that I notice that not all these soldiers were male, quite a few were female.
We're doing alright... wait others?
"What others?" I ask but still following the soldiers no the less.
And after we round an area of the library I spot the Duchess and her friends. They looked absolutely terrified but for some reason she looked calm and relaxed.
A gleaming spark in Victorias eyes told me that she was behind this whole thing.
Who would dare do something like this? I started to get lost in my thoughts, a few of the guards continued to guide me. A clearing of a throat had me looking up.
"Elizabeth! You're alright" I said happy to see her.
"Yes I'm fine but are you?" She ask worry making her look ten years older.
"Yes why wouldn't I be?" I ask now getting worried as well. If it rattled her it cannot possibly be something small.
"In the entryway... there was a message...in blood-" she stopped seemingly hesitant in telling me,"it was a warning that if you were crowned it, well it wouldn't end well" she finished.
"Woah..." I stand there breathlessly, I had to keep my cool, no doubt Garreth and Enderson would be finding out soon enough.
But that look in Victoria's eyes told me all I needed to know. She was involved in this one way or another and I was going to prove it.
With my resolve the door to the library came bursting open, and in rushed Garreth and Enderson both looking extremely panicked. It would appear they had just learned about the threat.
"Sarina come." Enderson ordered, I followed without delay. When I came up to their sides they each grabbed ahold of one of my hands and started tugging me back to our room.
"The danger... is it gone?" I ask when we reached their room.
"For now" Garreth mumbles changing out of his armor.
"Good, then I will see you in the morning" I said before heading towards the door.
"Where do you think you're going sweetheart", Enderson growls out, as he suddenly appears in front of the door.
