Y/N's P.O.V

Right now I'm currently walking Kate to work, while Clint runs down a lead on the Ronin suit.

Harry also left today as he's spending Christmas with his family in Europe.

He offered to bring me along, but I'm needed here right now.

Kate and I walking down the street.

Kate: I'm gonna be late cause of you.

Y/N: You're gonna be alive cause of me.

I move over and walk on the other side of her.

Kate: Oh. Being a gentleman, walking on the outside. Nice.

Y/N: Well, I am your "boyfriend," remember?

She giggles.

Kate: Yes, you are. And you're gonna need to play that role when my mum sees us.

Y/N: Got it.

After that we see a kid call out and run past us over to a group of people dressed up like the Avengers.

Kate: Hey, that one's Clint.

Y/N: Nah, that's Katniss Everdeen. Let's go.

Kate: You know, your problem is branding.

Y/N: No, it isn't.

Kate: Yes it is.

We turn a corner.

Kate: Your thing these days is that you like to keep to yourself as Spider-Man. That's a hard brand to sell.

Y/N: I'm not tryin' to sell anything.

We cross the road.

Kate: And that should technically make you cooler and sexier, but with all the crazy stuff that's happened since the Avengers showed up, people don't want that cool guy thing anymore. They want sincerity. Like you used to be.

Y/N: Is that right?

Kate: Yes, heart-on-your-sleeve sincerity.

Y/N: I see.

Kate: You are contained. You keep your cards close to your vest with poeple, which you wear under red and blue spandex. And under that is finally your heart. So, not exactly on your sleeve.

Y/N: Like I said, I'm not tryin' to sell anything.

Kate: But you do, Y/N.

Y/N: Oh yeah? And what do I sell exactly?

Kate: Inspiration, Y/N.

She and I both stop. Kate then comes face to face with me.

Kate: You inspire people, Y/N. You can inspire people, both as Y/N Drake and as Spider-Man, but you choose not to.

She puts her hand over my heart.

Kate: Let the people see your heart. I'm no expert, but I believe that'll make you a better hero.

I sigh.

Maybe she's right, but I've never seen myself as an inspiration to people, even before the Strange spell.

Kate: Come on, this way.

We both go over and into the building.

After an elevator ride we make it to the top floor.

She and I then go over to her mother's office and walk in.

Kate's mother, Eleanor is sitting on the couch.

Kate: I know, before you say anything...

Her mother looks up.

Eleanor: Wow, you've brought a boy with you.

I wave.

Y/N: Hi.

Kate: Yes. Mum, this is my boyfriend Y/N Drake. Y/N, this is my mother, Eleanor.

She stands up and we shake hands.

Y/N: Nice to meet you.

Eleanor: Likewise.

She looks to Kate.

Eleanor: Wow. Kate, why didn't you say you had a cute boyfriend?

Y/N: Thank you.

Kate: Well, I wanted to wait to see if the relationship would last before telling you.

Eleanor: Oh, okay.

She looks back to me.

???: Katie. Good morning.

Kate looks at him.

Kate: Kate. Only Y/N can call me Katie.

He looks to me.

???: Who's this?

Y/N: I'm Y/N.

Kate: That's right. Y/N, this is my soon-to-be stepfather Jack. Jack, this my boyfriend, Y/N Drake.

We shake hands.

Jack: Nice to meet you.

Y/N: You too.

Kate: Sorry for your loss, Jack. I... I saw it on the news.

He goes and sits down with Eleanor.

Jack: Thank you, Kate. That's very sweet of you. He was very dear to me.

Katie sits down.

Kate: It must've come as quite a shock.

Jack: It did. It did, indeed.

Kate: You two were probably really close.

Jack: We had a special relationship.

Kate: So, what about the inheritance? Is that....

Eleanor: Kate, what are you wearing?

Kate: Oh, well I'm wearing Y/N's hoodie and t-shirt. He let me borrow some of his clothes.

Eleanor: What's this I hear about a fire in your apartment last night?

Kate: I can explain. Look, after the fire I called Y/N and told him what happened. So he took my back to his place and I spent the night there.

Eleanor: And he lives near you?

Y/N: That's right. I live nearby with my roommate. Kate stayed with me.

Eleanor: Oh, okay.

Kate sighs.

Kate: Mum, can we talk? Without the interloper?

Y/N: Yeah, I should probably go too...

Kate stops me.

Kate: No, babe. Stay.

Eleanor: Please, Kate.

Jack: No, no, it makes perfect sense that should would be hostile. She likely feels displaced by me, and she's testing our new dynamic. She both desires my approval, yet wants to set firm boundaries. She feels threatened by me and you know what? I can understand why.

Katie just stares at Jack.

He smiles.

Jack: I brought a book. About being a step-dad.

She nods.

Kate: Money well spent, Jack.

Eleanor: Kate. Jack's cooking dinner. Why don't you and your boyfriend join us? We can get to know Y/N here a little better.

Kate: Okay, fine.

She looks to me.

Kate: Y/N?

I nod.

Y/N: Yeah, okay. Sounds great.

Kate: But I have a condition.

Eleanor: What's that?

Kate: I come up with the conversation topics.

After all that Katie and I leave Eleanor's office.

For some reason I feel like this dinner is gonna be a disaster.

(Several hours later)

Kate and I are now having dinner with Eleanor and Jack.

So far things haven't been that bad.

Eleanor: So, Y/N what do your parents do?

Y/N: I, uh...

Kate: Mum, Y/N's parents are dead.

Eleanor: Oh my god. Y/N, I'm so sorry.

Y/N: It's fine, honestly. My mum died when I was a kid and I lost my dad last year.

Eleanor: Oh, you poor thing.

Y/N: It's okay, really. I just try to remember as they were before they died. It helps.

Eleanor: That helped me when I lost my first husband.

Y/N: Yeah, Kate told me. I'm sorry for your loss.

Eleanor: I'm sorry for yours.

I nod.

Y/N: But to answer your question. My dad was a CSI for the NYPD and my mum was an NYPD Detective. That's how they met.

Eleanor: That's nice.

I nod.

Eleanor: So, what are you doing right now?

Y/N: I'm studying at Empire State University getting my GED.

Jack: Oh, that's great.

Y/N: Thanks, Jack.

Eleanor: You seem like a nice young man, Y/N. I'm glad Kate found someone like you.

Y/N: I'm just glad I found her. She's changed my life.

I hold her hand and she smiles.

As the dinner continues Kate starts questioning Jack.

This isn't gonna end well. I just know it.
