Twelve
Tuesday came and I'm back here at our restaurant.
I was busy removing the churros with a slotted spoon or tongs and then immediately rolling them in cinnamon sugar. I then placed them on a cooling rack.
The sous chef and grill chefs were busy with the other orders while Chef Allana and I took care of the pastries. She instructed me to place chocolate chips in a medium heatproof bowl.
In a small saucepan over medium heat, I brought heavy cream to a simmer. Then, I poured hot cream over chocolate chips and let it sit for 2 minutes. I added cinnamon and salt and whisk to combine.
Chef Allana served them with chocolate dripping sauce and handed it over to our head chef.
"Service!" Chef Barry grinned at us and our hall manager, Miss Luisa nodded and took the desserts out of the kitchen.
Aside from the churros, I took out the Canarian Flan which we prepared hours ago to serve upon the customer's request. I handed it over to the chef and had the hall manager serve it to the customer.
I checked the time and realized it's only two in the afternoon.
I still have four hours to go before I call it a day.
I informed Chef Allana that I will be taking my thirty-minute break and she nodded. I went to my locker and pulled off my apron.
I sighed and wiped my eyeglasses to clean off the cloudy area.
I put it back and realized it didn't come off.
I blinked in confusion and pulled my spectacles again.
I, then, looked at our locker room door and realized it was no longer my spectacles that are cloudy.
It was already my line of sight.
I felt dizzy all of a sudden.
I blinked hoping to be on track. I was successful but it was only for a moment.
My head is spinning and I could feel my body went limp.
I leaned on my locker door and blindly used my hands to reach the bench at the center.
I dragged my feet to sit up and pulled out my cellphone.
I long pressed my phone hoping to speed dial on my bestfriend, Tamara.
She lives also in this area and I got her contact number only recently.
She was my highschool friend even before we got to college.
We momentarily lost contact but was able to bump into each other outside the hospital yesterday.
I groaned when I learned that I forgot to charge my phone.
"Hey, Clari.. Are you okay?" I heard Onyx's voice inside my head and I just dismiss him using my hand.
My head was spinning and all I can do was to lean it on something for support.
I closed my eyes to let it rest.
I felt strong arms cradling me and voices around before I surrendered to sleep.
I woke up inside a spacious room fit for a king with my vision still blurry.
I sat up and stared at the vast television screen in front of me.
"Are you feeling alright now?" Onyx asked and brought me water.
I nodded but didn't meet his eyes.
I drank the water he gave and mumbled my thanks. "I had called a doctor to check up on you. Let's just wait for a couple of minutes."
I nodded again. I did not have the strength to stand up so I closed my eyes and let my thoughts ran in my head.
I should be thanking him but my condition got the best of me.
I only have self-pity.
After a few minutes, someone knocked on the door and I saw Dr. De Silva and his stern gaze at me.
I sighed. I'm ready to face the truth.
