Two
My forehead creased when I raised my eyes to see the person in front of me.
We're here inside the university's library because of our seatwork in Governance which should be done in pairs.
My surname is Suarez and his is Jimenez.
Our seating arrangement is alphabetical order but because we're late because of personal reasons, we unexpectedly became partners.
"Can you please stop staring, Miss Suarez." His voice sounds more firm than what I expected him to be.
I blinked and looked down to the book I was holding.
I pretended to be distracted by the dirt in my eyeglasses and pulled it from my eyes.
"W-what are you talking about? I was just irritated because of a dirt in my eyeglasses." I blurted out and wiped them clean to convince him.
I wiped it twice before returning my eyeglasses to where it was.
I heard him chuckle and my eyebrow raised automatically.
"What was the topic assigned to us? " I asked, changing the topic.
"Governing organizations." He said.
Out of the blue, he handed me a sheet of paper and I curiously read it.
My eyes widened with how neat his penmanship was and how organized his notes are.
His penmanship is better than mine!
He even has our subtopics outlined and specified!
"I took notes beforehand while we were waiting outside our classroom." He said.
"Wow." I can't help but to blurt out.
He let out a sigh and closed his book.
He crossed his arms over the table and bent down to close his eyes.
"Will you wake me up ten minutes before our lunch time? Are you leaving already?" He asked while still in that position. His voice sounds sleepy already.
"N-no. I'll stay here. T-to take notes." I said and watched him when he yawned and drifted to sleep.
Minutes passed and I thought he was fast asleep when he said,
"Told you not to stare at me."
I almost jumped in surprise.
"I-I'm not! There was a mosquito earlier! I was afraid it will bit you and you'll caught dengue!" I stuttered with my words to defend myself.
"Quiet. Only for fifteen minutes. Let me sleep, please." He said and I just felt he was serious.
I let him be and returned my attention to my notes.
I continued my part in the seat work and shortly after, he was awake and yawning while stretching his arms.
"Wow! That was the best 30 minutes ever!" Jimenez grinned and messed his hair.
"Was that thirty minutes already?" I asked and glanced at the wall clock.
He nodded and started arranging his things inside his bag.
"Let's go and have lunch. My treat. " He said and stood up.
I immediately fixed my things and stood up as well.
"I would love to but my friends are waiting." I said to him.
His face softened then nodded.
"Okay. See you around."
Those were his words when he left me on our spot in the library.
I sighed and picked up my book.
I noticed my friends murmuring and giggling outside the library when I arrived.
"How was your date with Freak?" Louisse asked and nudged my arm.
"Hey, Reagan's nice. He's awesome too. He almost did all the work. " I bragged in his defense.
"Yiee! Shei huh! Who knows, maybe you'll fall for him soon!" Trina remarked and wiggled her eyebrows at me.
"It's just your tummy talking. Come on, let's eat! I'm starving!" I said and grabbed her arm.
Louisse ran after us as we went to the cafeteria.
As soon as we reached the caf door, I panted and ordered them to get us a table.
I dragged my feet to where they are but halted when I saw Reagan giving me a cold stare at the far right corner.
He was munching on a hotdog sandwich and looking right at me.
I was enthralled but tried to keep my look relaxed.
I really don't know his problem!
He's creeping me out!
"Hey! Best! What happened? Better get moving! We might just ran out of food!" Louisse exclaimed and stood up.
I started to walk towards them after adjusting my eyeglasses.
I cleared my throat and gave them some cash.
"I'll have Palabok and coke. Oh, and fries too Sour cream flavor." I said to them then sat.
When they were out of earshot, I sighed as I looked out the window.
Students were busy storming and running around the open grounds while some were seated at the benches getting some air.
I was distracted when the girls arrived with our foods.
"What's that?" Trina asked pointing at a folded piece of paper on my side of table.
I shrugged and opened it while twirling my fork on the palabok.
I was about to chew on the noodles when I realized whom the letter came from.
It was from Reagan!!
Shaniah,
Have a good lunch! Eat with me, soon! 🌼
Reagan J.
