Ten
Graduation Ball came and everyone was excited to be dressing up and be seen in another apparel other than our respective uniforms.
With less make-up and my favorite pick of dress, I looked like a different person.
Just for tonight, I decided to lose my eyeglasses and replaced it with contacts instead.
I also had my long hair up which made my neck appeared long.
Our identities were made mysterious because of the masks we wear.
With my nude colored dress, I felt bold and seductive.
Me and my friends, Louisse and Trina entered the venue while holding our purses.
The venue was wonderful.
The lights were dimmed and occasionally flashed on our faces.
We quickly looked for our table but were disappointed when we cannot sit together.
I found out that me and Louisse were included in one while Trina was separated from us.
We gave her a sympathetic look when one of the emcees ordered us to take our seats to officially start the programme.
Introduction of professors in-charge and student government were finished and a compilation of the students' happy moments were being projected on screen.
Apart from that, awards for best in thesis and best thesis adviser were given to deserving students.
Afterwards, dinner was immediately served to the professors and deans while us, students, needed to fall in line at the buffet table.
While we were eating, one of our classmates, Francis Hundred, called my attention and asked to dance with me later.
All eyes were on me and I swore, I felt so awkward so I have to say yes even if I don't want to.
Good thing, my mouth was full so I just nodded and Francis with his male friends in our table started teasing him.
Louisse nudged me and shook her head.
Obviously, she doesn't approve.
The reason? Rumors say that his armpits smell.
I did not want to embarrass him so out of respect, I have to say yes.
One dance won't hurt, right?
At least, that's what I thought.
When the programme ended, the real party began.
Mixture of slow and upbeat songs were played.
During the upbeat songs, Trina would pull me and Louisse from our tables and we will dance.
While during the slow songs, us girls, being single, will automatically sit down and let the couples do their sweet dance.
First dance, Francis offered his hand and I politely accepted it.
His friends let out a chuckle while Louisse looked at me with pity.
It took me almost five minutes to endure a conversation and a dance with him.
Once the song has ended, he escorted me back to our table.
I was relieved when at the second dance, he went to the restroom.
But to my dismay, after the upbeat song preceding the second slow dance earlier, he asked to dance again.
It was because Louisse rejected him.
"Uh, my feet are still aching. Sorry. You can try asking another girl instead." I answered politely.
Francis nodded in understanding and went to another table where he got rejected also.
I felt guilty but it was the truth!
I was used to not wearing heels ever since.
Even if it's just one inch, my heels were in torture.
Added the fact that Trina pulled us in almost every upbeat song that was played by the DJ.
When it was time for the final dance before the end of the GradBall, Roswell Norman, asked for a dance which I politely entertained.
Roswell was our current SG President and I cannot hide the fact that he is extremely handsome as well.
We shared the last dance with Shaniah Twain's song of You're Still The One in the background.
It was Roswell who initiated the conversation which I gladly responded.
He was funny and a gentleman.
When it was time to go home, he accompanied me along with the girls.
He opened the taxi door for us and bid me goodbye.
The girls were nothing but curious about the two guys earlier.
They demanded to know what's going on between me and the SG President.
They said that they will let it pass tonight since they are completely exhausted so we parted ways.
It was Trina who first took off whom we dropped of at her house on the street beside mine.
Then it was Louisse's turn who was living behind mine.
I paid the driver once I got home.
From the outside, I can see that something is up.
The lights are still on and I heard noises from the inside.
My forehead instantly creased with curiosity so I hurried to the door and found my parents bickering at this time of day.
I glanced at our wall clock.
11:30 PM. Almost 12 AM.
"Just sign the papers." Mom said simply.
"How many times do I have to say that I WON'T. I WILL NOT." Dad emphasized and glared at mom.
"They are getting an annulment, Ate." Sheena said, her eyes watery and red.
My jaw dropped in surprise and disappointment.
This is unbelievable!
