Seven

The road home was quiet. Awkward. And just plain awkward.

Did I just say awkward?

"Touchdown, home." He said when he halted the car as soon as we reached the garage.

I blinked and I knew at that moment, I was in daze. Maybe, I'm just wasn't sure where we are headed when in my mind I know this is where I will always be.

"K. Thanks." I mumbled and pressed the eyeglasses on the bridge of my nose. Immediately, I got out of the car and went inside.

"Anak!" Mom greeted me as soon as she saw me. I gave her a peck on the cheek and let the straps of my bag fell on my sides and onto the sofa cushions.

"What's going on, 'Ma?" I asked and yawned. I heard a giggle and my eyes met Beau's.

"Halika rito, hijo. Sabayan mo na kami kumain." She said to Beau and my eyebrows raised automatically.

"Hindi na po—" he shook his head and took a step back but was cut off by Dad who was going out of the mini-office.

"—saluhan mo na kami. Hindi ka naman iba sa amin." Dad said and my brows furrowed in curiosity. He must have felt me and smiled when we locked eyes. "I miss you, anak. Tara na at maghapunan na tayo."

I let them lead the way with Beau trailing behind me. Judging from their looks, I knew something is up.

Mom served the dishes and I could smell the aroma of pork chop and my stomach reacted immediately. My face flushed in embarrassment as both my parents laughed at me. Even Beau was not able to muffle his chuckles and I frowned at him.

"So, ano po meron?" I couldn't help asking as soon as we began eating. I devoured my food when Dad spoke up first, ''I have decided to quit..."

"Wow! Hay salamat—" I blabbered but Dad really has the habit of interrupting someone's conversation. "...but I'll be running for Senator next year."

My jaw dropped open and Beau coughed in response. I ignored how Mom offered him a glass of water and asked Dad about his horrible plan.

"Daaad! Hindi ka pa ba nadala sa threats sa'yo lately?" I protested as I glared at him. "Mom?" I turned to her and she nodded. "You're okay with this? Maaaa!"

"Anak. We have talked this out. I believe, we will be fine. He just needs some time off. Lie low." Mom's voice trailed as she continued to eat.

I sighed in defeat.

With Mom's approval, there is no doubt, Dad will push through with his plan.

And, me and Ate, have no way of halting their decision.

"Can you just support us, darling?" Dad asked and gave me his puppy-eyed look.

"Wala naman yata akong choice." I said and drank the orange juice beside me.

I stood and said, "pahinga na po ako, Dad, Mom. May make-up class pa kami bukas ng hapon."

They nodded and let me go, leaving Beau with them.

I did not bother to look at him as they treat him as member of our family.

I went to my room and flopped on my bed. I decided to take a nap but dozed off and woke up the next day.
