The Spawns | Chapter XXXII -- Angry Dragon Spirit
THE SPAWNS
Angry Dragon Spirit
Chapter XXXII—Cole

I was running like a mad man towards where our car was parked. If that delinquent had stolen it, they would never be able to find her body.
I could hear the twins trying to catch up with me, but I wasn't slowing down. I was only going faster and mentally already deciding the best way to kill my cousin. Strangling her with my bare hands felt like the most appropriate way, while looking in her eyes so she'd know why she was getting killed and I'd make sure to see that little light in her eyes go out.
And I really needed therapy.
Luckily for my cousin, when I got to where our car was parked, it was still there, untouched.
I hugged its hood.
"What the hell dude?" Frank said.
"Give him a minute. He's a special child," Jay told him.
"We still have no idea where Jayden's girlfriend is."
"Not my girlfriend," he whined in response to Mai's comment.
"Alright, your own personal wiener gobbler."
"I'm gonna scream."
"So, you're a screamer, interesting. I thought you were a bitter, I'm pretty sure you were biting your arm when I walked in on—" and the rest of her sentence was muffled by what I could only assume was Jayden's pathetic attempt at shutting her up. I wasn't opening my eyes to look at the two idiots. Maika could kick his ass. Jayden probably secretly enjoyed it without even realizing it. The kinks of that dude.
"Maika had a point though, where's Dakota?" Clyde pointed out.
I finally let go of the car, got my phone out and tried calling her. No answer. Big surprise.
We went back to the motel room. She wasn't in either room.
"Maybe she went to get something to eat," Frank said, so we headed to the closest restaurant.
Leaning against a car in the parking lot of the restaurant was a couple, grossly making out.
"Check out the two slugs," I said, nudging Mai with my elbow.
She went scarily deadly still. "That's the fucking red head."
I blinked slowly. Oh... She was right.
She powerwalked over to her. I tried to grab her arm, but there was nothing that could have stopped her.
She walked like a Terminator zooming in on John Connor and then grabbed Dakota by the arm, tearing her off the dude and punched her straight in the mouth.
Dakota spit blood and started to wail like a feral animal and then the dude she'd been making out with grabbed her to keep her from fighting Maika and Jay grabbed Maika to stop her from punching her again.
"Are you fucking kidding me? Are you for real you disgusting gangrenous foot?" Maika was yelling at Dakota while my cousin was coming up with just as colourful insults.
And since Maika was dangerous, she channelled her judo training and flipped Jay over her shoulder before going for another punch. This time I grabbed my sister-from-another-mother and kept her in place.
"Everyone needs to calm down!" I yelled.
"She punched me!" Dakota screamed back.
"You were making out with some random dude," Maika answered, steel in her voice. It was fugging scary.
I couldn't believe it. After everything Dakota had said, after everything she had done, this was the thing that set her off. It wasn't her insulting her mother or saying she had been abandoned.
No, it was making out with a guy that would be messing with Jayden's feelings.
"I'm her boyfriend," the guy felt the need to mention.
Her what now? A boyfriend? Since when did she have a boyfriend? What the hell had she been doing flirting with Jayden all this time then?
"We were on a break," my cousin replied, annoyed.
"You said, I'm going to visit my family, see you soon. How's that on a break?"
I tried ignoring whatever they were trying to explain. I ultimately didn't really care. I was just trying to keep Maika from sending me flying. I was still holding her in place. "I don't care about your love life. Just sort your life out for crying out loud. And Maika, calm the fudge down."
She huffed in annoyance, but I could see she was calming down a bit. I let her go. "You're unbelievable," Maika said, staring at Jayden with contempt.
"Me? You broke my ass" Jay whined, getting back on his feet very slowly.
"I don't care, as long as I get to break her face!" she answered back and I grabbed her again, because obviously, she wasn't done with the violence.
"Cole, let them fight. Go get mud. Or Jell-O. Or both," Clyde said.
"I'm not letting anyone fight. Maika, calm down. Dakota, calm down. There will be no more fighting otherwise I'm going to start punching people too."
Apparently Maika realized that wasn't a good idea and settled down. And clearly her punch had caused severe damage to my cousin's brain because Dakota calmed down too.
I could see Maika's slow intake of breath. "Cole, my dear, would you mind leaving us for a sec?" she asked, just staring at Jayden. He looked scared shitless.
I grinned. "Nope, no problem at all."
Jay grabbed my arm, looking a little desperate and whispered, "Please don't leave me alone with the crazy chick possessed with an angry dragon spirit."
I kept the grin on my lips. "You're on your own dude," I replied and motioned for my cousin to follow me. "Come on, we gotta take care of the bloody face," I told her and she reluctantly complied. "You can stay by your car," I made sure to tell her boyfriend.
The twins stayed behind with him. I'm assuming they didn't want to deal with either of the break downs tat were about to happen.
Smart decision.
So we walked to the closest pharmacy and I got an ice pack. I gave it to the witch as we sat on a bench by the sidewalk. She didn't deserve my kindness but I was a good person, regardless of how shitty other people could be.
"Here," I offered it to her and she just snatched it out of my hands, "Oh that's fine, who cares about civility, I don't need a thank you."
"Why would I thank you? I never asked for your help," she sneered back. She was going to have a nasty bruise.
She had a point. But she was also wrong. "I'm trying to be nice here for a change. Could you just make a little effort?"
"Sure, be nice with me now that I could sue your little sex-toy. She punched me without any provocation. I'll totally win that lawsuit," she informed me. She didn't smirk though, I only assumed because it would hurt her face too much.
"Are you serious?"
"Why wouldn't I be? And you'll all get into trouble because you just let her punch me."
I could punch her again right now. "Why are you acting out so much, it's like you want this..." And then I realized it. "You want this. You wanted to piss us off. You wanted us to kick you out. You want to leave with that dude."
"I don't know what you're talking about," she answered, staring out into the distance.
"You're doing all of this on purpose, making sure we can't stand you so that we throw you out," I realized, out loud.
"Makes no sense to me."
I shook my head. "You're unbelievable." I had no idea what to do. She was old enough to be smarter than this. She was old enough that I shouldn't have to babysit her. She was family, but truth be told, I didn't care about her. I knew just sending her off with the first guy she made out with was kind of a dick move though.
I had no idea what to do.
She wasn't my sister.
But she had brothers.
Maybe her actual close family could deal with her nonsense.
I let her mend her wound and stepped a few feet away from her to call my cousin Kingston, Dakota's eldest brother.
He greeted me by saying, "I don't often get a call from you."
"Yeah, I know, sorry about that," I answered, rubbing the back of my neck.
"No worries, I'm assuming you're calling because of my sister."
I snorted. "You are correct."
"What did she steal this time?" he asked, annoyed.
"My sanity."
It was his time to snort. "Yeah, she tends to do that."
"And you guys let her?"
"There's nothing to be done." I could feel the shrug from a distance. He didn't care. Clearly, no one around her did.
"How about military booth camp? Or I don't know, maybe not being complacent and giving a shit?"
"Woah."
"Sorry," I sighed, pacing around, "she's just being a huge pain, and I can sort of tell that she's just acting out because she wants attention. And I'm pretty sure the attention she wants is from her actual family and not my friends."
"Whatever we've tried, nothing has worked."
"So what? You guys just abandon? You know, when you have problems, running away from each other isn't the solution. If your parents are going through a rough patch, the solution isn't to stay away from each other. You should be supporting your parents instead of leaving them behind."
While saying those words, I could only think about Beth. Running away hadn't been the solution. Running away from the problems didn't solve them, it just meant postponing the inevitable.
It was time to stop postponing and face reality.
It was time to go back home.

A/N: Hey guys! Sorry it took my longer than I had expected to upload this. I've worked more than I was supposed to. And basically, I'll be working every day until I leave to New York for Wattcon. (who else is going? :D) So yeah, very busy Kay, I hope you can be understanding.
In the meantime, while you wait for more The Spawns, you can check out my new story The Claire Years. I upload one chapter a day, every day until it's finished (the story is already completely written, so it doesn't affect my uploading of other stories). The chapters are short, so it's a quick read and it would mean the world to me if you could go give it some love. I'm really proud of it and I would love more people to enjoy Westley's story.
So, that's all for now. I'm not sure when I'll upload again, but hopefully it shall be soon. :) As always, thank you so much for your patience.
