Stop Flirting With My Cousin
Chapter XIII—Jayden
© DarknessAndLight
I was trying to make Maika trip on the way down the stairs when my gaze met another—the girl that had just stepped in the apartment, also known as Cole’s cousin, Dakota.
And man, did she look hot. I didn’t remember her being this hot—or maybe I never had noticed it or paid attention to it before—point was, HOT ALERT!
The red hair was kind of the most obvious turn on at first glance. She had red hair, but not strawberry red, or carrot red, or washed up red or brown red, no proper dark red hair that couldn’t possibly be natural—at least I never remember seeing any cousins of Cole with hair like that and I didn’t know anyone with hair that color, but it was pretty much irrelevant to me anyway. She was hot.
With her dress that was some kind of black material covered by a white lacy material and her red lips that matched her hair and her petite figure, she looked like a full size doll, but not the kind that was scary and could be featured in an horror movie, no she was the kind you’d want to blow up and then proceed to fuck the face. Okay that was wrong on so many levels. That metaphor could have been a lot classier.
Suddenly, Maika flicked me ear, and looked at me, rolling her eyes—she had notice my staring, obviously.
She looked back towards where I had been gazing and made an approving sound. “Yum-yum, would you look at that. Spencer Taylor grew up nicely, very nicely. I wouldn’t mind a private showing of all those grow-up parts.” Clearly, she wasn’t exactly looking were I had been looking. Her gaze was on Dakota’s older brother, Spencer, who was standing beside the redhead.
I scowled at her. It was okay for me to notice someone was hot, but not for her. Well, that was kind of sexist and unfair for me to say, and honestly, she should be finding guys hot, it just bothered me for some reason. I blamed my brotherly genes that made me protective towards my real and fake sisters. Maika fitted in that category and if I was prepared to reconstruct the face of any guy that wanted to get in my sister’s pants, I should do the same for Maika. This all totally made sense in my head. Shut up.
She puffed out air in annoyance. “Don’t give me that look. You have no right to give me that look when you were perving on the sister two seconds ago.” Yeah I was, whatever.
“He’s not good enough for you.”
She laughed loudly. “Not good enough for me? Wow, this is precious.”
Okay, that didn’t even make sense. But I had a point! “What? Didn’t you say you were a romantic too and wanted to find the right guy?”
“Yeah, when I’m like thirty. For now, a girl has needs and you’re not acknowledging that I’m of the gender you should procreate with and Cole’s gay, so where am I supposed to get some? Oh and who says he’s not a good guy?”
And without even giving me time to argue back, my crazy friend was walking towards the newcomers.
I tried to grab her arm to stop her but figured I might as well go say hello too. And maybe humiliate her so Cole’s cousin wouldn’t talk to her for the rest of his existence. I had enough dirt on the girl to scare away anyone.
“Why, hello there Spencer. I just wanted to warn you that if a fat man ever puts you in a bag at night, don’t worry, it’s because I told Santa I wanted you for Christmas,” Maika sweetly smiled at him. I couldn’t help chuckle at her pick-up line, even though I wasn’t encouraging her at all. Spencer was laughing too, so that wasn’t good.
“Nice to know you haven’t changed, Maika,” he told her.
She shrugged, and I swear she was fluttering her eyelashes way more than necessary. “Why modify perfection?”
“Indeed,” he agreed, still grinning.
“Please, I beg of you, stop hitting on my brother. I’m not drunk enough to start puking so soon,” the redhead interjected, holding her hands together in a begging manner.
“Dakota,” her brother groaned at the same time I drawled a “Thanks!”
She smiled my way, and because I was an asshole and I had thought about it, of course my mind thought about blow up dolls and I wanted to punch my head a couple of times.
Maika and Spencer moved away from us, obviously her hitting on Dakota’s brother wasn’t going to stop just now. It left me standing alone with the redhead. I blinked twice. She was hot. I was taller than her so when I looked down at her, my gaze was kind of attracted at the very present cleavage action happening down there. I wondered if I could trip and stick my face there without getting beat up. I also wondered if I could stop my god damn mental perving. “So, you’re coming to stay here,” I asked, going for small talk instead of accidental groping.
She nodded. “Yeah, my brother’s just dropping me off. For some reason my parents seem to be under the impression that I’ll do less damage here than back home.” She waved it off, like it was nothing.
I raised my eyebrows. “And obviously, that’s not going to happen?”
“Obviously,” she smiled again, a smiled that promised mischief and nothing good. I kind of liked it. I grinned back.
“Jay-Jay-Poo stop flirting with my cousin, I’m getting jealous,” Cole interjected, slapping me on the back, hard, effectively cutting the sweet moment.
Dakota grinned his way. “Oh, so you finally came out?” I laughed. Nice.
Cole grinned back, but it was the fake kind of grin and with that, I knew he was going to strike back. “Hey, what do you know, you finally grew boobs. I mean, they’re not the same size but at least it’s something.”
She rolled her eyes at him. “Boobs joke, how clever.”
Okay, I was starting to like this girl. I honestly didn’t remember her being so feisty. Maybe it had something to do with the red hair.
“You’re the one that started with the gay joke,” Cole pointed out. While they bantered away like siblings, I looked back towards the stairs at Lilibeth who was sitting on them, Fluffy on her knees. She seemed sad. I didn’t like it.
“Hey, you handed me that one on a platter Darling,” Dakota shot back.
“My, my, I can just tell you staying here is going to be super” Cole said all of that with a gay lisp. It was almost disturbing. Well actually, it was disturbing.
Dakota gazed at me. “Seriously? Does it do it on purpose?”
My shoulders shook with contained laughter. “I think he does.”
She shook her head slightly, and then gazed towards where her brother and Maika were. “That is gross,” she groaned. I was happy to know I wasn’t the only one that didn’t like their flirting. “He should just go back home now. He’s not even supposed to stay. He was supposed to just drop me off and then met some friends.”
“Cockblocker much?” Cole laughed.
“You can’t possibly say you enjoy looking at this,” she motioned towards the two, chatting and laughing.
Cole snorted. “First off, I don’t need to look and neither do you. Second off, it’s none of my freaking business so if my friend wants to get her freak on with my cousin, she can do whatever she wants.” Hmm, good to know.
“Good to know,” Dakota grinned at me and my eyes widened because well, I had been thinking the exact same thing. But I didn’t get to say anything because she frantically pointed back towards her brother. “Oooh, wait, clueless blonde on the move!”
By clueless blonde, she meant Nikki was heading their way.
I didn’t want to see that car crash so I looked back at Lilibeth. She was about to cry, I could bet my right ball on it. “Excuse me a second,” I mumbled to no one in particular—my best friend and his hot cousin were having fun looking at my cousin. I walked towards my sister instead and came to stand at her feet. “Why the sad face?”
She didn’t raise her eyes to me, she kept them fixed on the gray cat on her legs. “Nothing.”
“Lilibeth,” I groaned.
She looked up, her gaze hard. “It’s nothing, really. Okay!”
I sighed, trying to be softer. “Belly, what’s wrong,” I asked quietly.
“Nothing.” She shut up on her feet in a heartbeat, going down the stairs. “I’m going for a walk.”
“Alright I’ll go with you and we can talk.”
“I don’t need anybody!” Her voice raised when she said that and after, she pushed passed me and bolted towards the exit.
Cole was beside me seconds later his eyes fixed on the closed door. “What’s going on?”
“She needed air,” I shrugged.
“I’ll go talk to her,” he took a step forward, probably ready to break into a run.
I grabbed his arm before he could go further away. “Don’t. She wants to be alone,” I explained. He made a face. I made one too. “Yeah, I’m not happy about it either.”
Dakota interrupted our face-making. “You two look like over reacting parents. It’s kind of pathetic. Let the girl breathe.” I didn’t like being called pathetic but she had a point. “So, where’s the booze hidden?” Cole and I gazed at each other—him scowling, me grinning.
During dinner, I magically ended up sitting beside Dakota. I chatted with her all night long, easily. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I knew this girl before, I had seen her quite a few times during all my childhood and because she was related with my best friend, but for some reason I was comfortable with her. I wasn’t shy or unsure of myself. I spoke with her almost the same way as I spoke with Maika—well I would have mentioned the whole blowing up doll thing to Mai, and I wouldn’t be undressing her all the while I was talking to her though, but still, almost the same way. Or maybe it just had something to do with the booze I just knew she had slipped in my drink.
She was fun. And I wanted fun right now.
Aside from Dakota, our parents were all chatting happily, reminiscing their good old days. It was hard to imagine their lives ever being interesting to anyone. Nikki had seemed to realize Cole wasn’t actually gay. I don’t know what had given her this epiphany but she was back to her usual constant staring and incessant giggling. Now that I knew to look for it, it was kind of over the top. And I didn’t want them together anymore. Maika scowled for a while after Spencer left. He didn’t stay for dinner because he was meeting friends as Dakota had mentioned previously.
And Lilibeth just looked heartbreakingly sad.
We left pretty early and the car ride home was quiet because of Belly’s mood. We were all walking on eggshells. She had been great ever since I had arrived, but she was bound to get like this at one point. I just didn’t like to think about why she was being so gloomy.
Back home, we all went our separated ways, Dad, Mom and I sharing a look after Belly had sprinted up her room.
I headed towards my shack outside. I wanted to sculpt something, draw something paint something. Drama aside, the night had been fun and I still felt kind of giddy. Dakota was hot. And she was going to be around for the summer. And she had been flirting with me. And she had nice boobs. And red hair. And boobs.
But instead of doing anything artistic, once I stepped through the door of my little kingdom, I headed straight for my couch, my tiredness catching up with me, my eyelids impossible to keep from fluttering shot.
