Heartbreak (Keith x F! Lance AU Preview)
Reina: Somebody stop me from coming up with AUs! I have so many story ideas and so many unfinished stories...
Fun fact: I was coming up with AUs for Isa and the characters of Voltron, so I had one where everyone met their genderbent counterparts before focusing on the genderbent counterparts. Then I changed the AU and wound up with this. I honestly don't know if Isa, Soka, Aiko, and/or Akira will appear at all, so there won't be mentions of them. I debating about making a love interest for Shiro though.....
But back to the AU, I was thinking of "what if Lance was a female throughout Legendary Defender and everyone else wasn't genderbent?" I might write an AU where Lance is a girl and it follows the Voltron show, but changes slightly.
Yes I threw in the Legend of Zelda fight me.
Also, Lance will be called Laura.
Heartbreak Chapter 1: Rain
Rain. It had started raining some time ago, and while Laura would have loved to run out and dance in it, she remained where she was. She glowered at the mocking sky before choking up and sobbing again, wrapping her arms around her legs.
God, why did heartbreak sting so much?
In the distance, Laura could see Hylian Party in full swing, celebrating the defeat of the Galra. Queen Zelda had opened the castle up for the party, with the fighters of Voltron as the guests of honor.
Or most of them, anyway.
No one had noticed Laura slip off, and that stung. She was used to people blowing her off or calling her annoying, and she was used to that.
But being ignored completely as if she didn't exist?
That cut her wounded heart even further.
A few more tears streamed down her face. Perhaps it was for the best, she decided for herself. If she disappeared, then perhaps another paladin could be found for Blue, and Zarkon could be defeated more easily.
But where would she go? Arus? Earth? Somewhere else far away?
Anywhere where Keith wasn't likely to show up, she thought.
That set her off on another round of tears.
Why did Keith have to be a jerk? He could have politely turned her down but no, he had to yell and humiliate her. When he turned to talk to one of Zelda's knights, Laura ran. She didn't want Keith to glare at her the entire time, nor did she want the others to get mad at her for talking. It still hurt to see Allura tell her to shut up.
The wind began to pick up, but Laura didn't care. She was too miserable to even care.
It wasn't until the temperature began to drop that Laura stopped crying and began to shiver. She cursed herself for not getting her jacket or her uniform. She was so invested in wearing the sparkling blue strapless dress to even notice that the clouds.
But then again she had no idea that she would run off. She had imagined herself dancing with Keith and laughing-
"Laura!"
Laura snapped to attention and scooted backwards in the stable she was taking refuge in. She didn't want to be spotted and lectured for skipping out on her duties as a paladin of Voltron, and closed her eyes.
"Laura."
Something warm was wrapped around her. Laura opened her eyes to see her jacket. Blinking in confusion, she looked up to see Hunk's worried face. He was wearing his uniform, and he looked like he forgot to put on his helmet, if his soaking wet hair and wet helmet in his hands were any indication.
"What happened?" Hunk whispered as he lowered himself on his knees.
Laura refused to look him in the eye. "Nothing," she replied.
"Bulls**t."
Laura snapped her head up in shock. She had never heard Hunk swear before, and it sent a chill down her spine to see a sweet teen suddenly turn mad.
"You're upset, Laura. You ran out suddenly in the freezing rain, and you've been crying. What happened?"
Laura didn't respond, and Hunk nodded slowly. "It's okay if you don't want to talk. Just let me get you back to the castle."
Laura attempted to stand up, but her shaking legs failed her. She fell down, and Hunk made a sorrowful sigh before placing his helmet on her head and picking her up. He dashed out in the rain, making a beeline to the Yellow Lion. Once inside, Laura felt her eyes droop, and fell asleep.
Hunk bit his lip, worried. He sat down in his chair, with Laura curled up against him. Radioing Allura that he had found Laura, he headed back to the Altean ship.
Keith, Hunk thought bitterly. What did you do to Laura? If you did anything horrific, I'll kill you.
Reina: This made me cry so much.....
Anyway in this story, Keith had cruelly rejected Laura and made her run out during a party at the Hylian Castle. When everyone gets back, Laura is scared to be near Keith, and Keith realizes that he f***ed up. However, Hunk is forcing Keith to back off, and Shiro is trying to keep Hunk from killing Keith (because they need the Red Paladin to stop Zarkon), and Shiro, Pidge, Coran, and Allura are constantly checking up on Laura. And stuff.
In some earlier drafts, it was either Allura, Pidge, Shiro, or Zelda that finds Lance, but I thought it would be better if Hunk did it, because he is cinnamon roll and I see him doing this.
Also, Hunk knows that Keith did something because he went looking for Laura and Keith looked pissed, with a Hylian (probably Link) telling him that he saw Laura run away from Keith, pissing him off and causing him to chase after Laura.
If I were to continue this, I want Keith to have conflict with one of the other paladins over Laura/Lance, and I narrowed it down to two people: Shiro and Hunk. Shiro would be attempting to cheer Laura up and Keith misreads his actions, or Hunk would be cheering Laura up and acting like her boyfriend to piss off Keith. Which one seems better? (Or should it be both but Hunk acts like her older brother and says that Shiro is better for Lance?)
