Chapter 9

I crouch in my hiding spot, I clutch my leg that got burned. Its red, the skin looks boiled and blistered. I grit my teeth in pain. Long story short: I'm doomed. He started throwing fireballs at me, I screamed like a two year old, then ran and hid. Ya pretty pathetic.

I'm in a hollowed out tree, looks like a little bear or something used it once. I glance fearfully out of the trunk. I don't see him but I do see a fire, already the forest is in a blaze. The inferno hungrily eating the branches of trees. Wind isn't helping, its blowing sparks in all directions starting new fires everywhere. If he doesn't kill me, the fire will.

Smoke bellows into the air, I cough. I crouch back into my hiding spot. I glance all around me, this hiding spot will soon be ablaze. I need to move, or die. I hear laughter.

"Come out boy! Give me your precious little Stone and I wont kill you! I promise!" He says.

Ya right, like I'm listening to the guy that turns into a mutant fireball. I crouch down and open my pocket, I almost forgot in was there. The rock isn't doing anything, like rocks are supposed to do. I pocket it and remain hidden. I start to feel warm. I try to shake off the feeling but it doesn't go. I realize why, the branches in the tree I'm hidden in are burning. I instantly jump out of the spot, I would have cleared the blast zone instantly but my leg slows me down. The branch falls down just behind me, I limp away from the blazing hollow and make an effort to escape.

Truth to be told, I didn't get that far. The fire had almost surrounded my hollow, I limp toward an unburned pathway. I limp past at top speed, which is really slow. I keep going non stop through the forest. I start to gain ground on the fire. I start to recognize my surroundings. I burst into the clearing where my camp is. I grab a stick and use it to help me walk. I get to the lake and dip my injured leg in. I sigh in relief.

"Feels good does it?"

I spin around in shock, which hurts my leg like hell. I tumble to the ground at the feet of someone. Well not feet, well, kind of. Feet of Fire. The man of fire is in front of me, I didn't even notice the fire has spread to the edge of the clearing. He reaches out to me, I wince as the heat radiating from is body hurts. He laughs at my reaction and touches my shoulder. He steps back. Why? Then I look and see a tiny flame, too small to hurt. It almost looks cute on my shoulder. It flickers in a fight to stay alight. It wins. The flame grows to the size of a match alight. Now it hurts.

I bat at it with my hand witch sets my hand alight as well. It really Hurts now. My skin is screaming in pain. Its spread all over my body now. My hand is numb and where it first lit was black. I try rolling on the ground witch does nothing. I would love to brag about this idea but really, it was an accident. I get up to try and bat at the flames again but with my injured leg I trip: Into the lake.

The fires sizzle and disappear. He growls in frustration. He lets lose a stream of fire at me so I duck underneath the water. I hold my breath as long as I can, to my dismay, that lasts about 20 seconds. I break the surface to see another stream of flame aimed at my face. I gasp a quick breath and duck under once more. I hold my breath as long as possible once more. I open my eyes underwater, something I could do without blowing something up and getting detention; and see a fish calmly swim by. Lucky for you theirs no Fire fish to burn you up! I think glumly.

I rise to the surface and without looking; grab another breath and sink down. I look up from underneath to see red flames blast the surface of the water where I just was. Instead of sinking, I swim to the far side of the lake. Right before I resurface I hear him.

"You wont live another minute boy! You want to keep that stone? Well take THIS!" He shouts, his loud voice carrying down deep to where I am.

I resurface, take a breath and go down once more where I'm safer at least. He shoots fire, once more from his position. Even here I can see the white hot flames. The fire shot out of his hands, it wasn't aimed where I was, before and now. It was at the water.

It goes in deep. The fire is shot in the water, consuming everything as if on land. Smoke bellows from every spark. The fish I saw is swallowed in flames, it didn't stand a chance. And neither do I.

I jump out of the water and try to sprint, once again due to my tiny brain, trip on my injured leg; on to my injured body. How fun. I try to hold in my scream that tries to escape my mouth. It comes out between a gurgle or a gargle, couldn't decide. Hot head turns his head towards me, he grins that wicked grin that I hate so much. He blasts flames in my direction. I scramble away on my one good leg and one good arm.

I can't escape it. The flames come right at me, their heat scorching. I prepare to become bacon. Then it stops. A blue shield; force field thingy surrounds me. Next to me stands a man who looked like he was bacon.

"Hello Hegnard." Says the man.

"Bane? Get out of here! This is non of you're business!" The man snarls.

"Really?" Bane pretends to put on an innocent face. "How odd. I thought it would be my business when you sent you're Scorchers to kill me."

"If they didn't do the job, then I may have to do it myself. You can't beat me Bane. You never could!"

Bane puts that to thought, "very well, I don't have all day. Give it you're best shot!"

"I know better then that you old fool!" He almost screams. "You can't draw me in like you did to my brother!"

"Really? I guess my plan failed! That's a shame. It would have been funny to see you die just like your brother; Todd."

"DON'T SAY HIS NAME!" Hegnard screeches. "YOU KILLED HIM LIKE HE WAS NOTHING! YOU'RE A MADMAN DRIVEN BY RAGE!"

"How would that be may I ask?" Bane asks casually.

Hegnard grins, "You're apprentice, he was murdered by one of us. And you wont stop until we've all been killed. Because you don't know who did it. So you want us all to die!" He smirks at Banes reaction. Horrified.

Bane stands taller with athority, replacing his face with one of bravery. Sort of. "Well I wasn't lying about one thing, I am tight for time. How about we leave young Liam out of this, survivor gets him! Shall we?"

Hegnard considers it for a second. "I wouldn't have it any other way." He answers.

Bane runs forward, at first I think he's going into the lake as well, I'm about to warn him he's not safe there but instead of in water, he runs on top of it. He runs directly at the Hegnard dude. Skipping across like it was land. He jumps in the air and meets him head on. I expect his hand to go right through him and then he'll start to burn, but his fist connects with Hegnards face and he falls back. His fist isn't even on fire! Show off...

Hegnard blasts those white flames at him but Bane runs right through them and hits him again. Hegnard scowls and hits him back. Instead of falling, Bane flies into the air landing in the lake. Hegnard prepares a final shot to end it all. Suddenly Bane lifts his hand to the sky and flicks his hand; just like I did. I expected wind or an explosion to happen. Of course I was disappointed. It started to rain. It fell down all around us making me more miserable then ever.

I watch the rain fall down. What the hell was this Bane dude thinking? Suddenly I hear screaming, my attention is drawn to Hegnard! The rain... It was killing him. He was made of fire and he was being put out. The rain was destroying him. Trails of smoke flew of him, joining the massive fog of smoke from the forest fire. I watch in horror as his screams grow and louder and longer. I barely notice Bane swimming out of the lake.

He walks into my vision and using his arms in some weird way: lifts the water in a wave and brings it down on Hegnard. And he was gone. Bane steps back to survey his work.

He turns to me. "Now what shall I do with you?"
