Chapter 8
Apparently he didn't want to kill me at the moment. I wandered through the forest gathering campfire wood, expecting him to jump out and yell-
"Die you stupid punk!"
I guess I was wrong. It was about three hours later after wandering around trying to find the man who wanted to kill me. I finally realized he wouldn't be killing me for a bit. I was fine with that of course, it mostly gave me time to think about things. Mostly what happened with James.
I touch my shoulder lightly, expecting a lot of pain. Instead it felt fine, good as new like the doctor had promised. But still, when James had come it hadn't fully healed whatsoever. I felt lots of pain from his punching. After that flash suddenly it was just... gone. It just disapeared!
James was also freaky, I couldn't think of a thing possible to do what happened. Then suddenly it happens from an injured, blacked out kid who didn't move a muscle. I can still smell the smoke that was coming of James, from his broken body lying across the floor.
I shake away memories and regard my 'camp'. It was pretty much a bunch of sticks holding up some branches I collected from the ground. It was mostly from stopping rain, instantly as I thought it, rain started to heavily drop down. My makeshift roof held most of the rain back well enough to keep me dry.
The memories come back. Struggling to hold them back I lie down. James haunts me, his melted eyes keep flashing back over and over again. You did this... I just new I did, it had to be me, but how? Magic wasn't a possibility, was it? I flex my hands in the way I broke the windows. One of those times I went to detention. I was just stretching my arms and suddenly when I flicked my wrists to stretch the wrists. The windows imploded, imploded. Even though it came inwards, I was alone in the class so they blamed me. I flexed my wrist over and over again, nothing happens.
If someone was watching me right now, I would look like such a loser. The sun dips below the tree lone and I'm plunged into the darkness. I hear the rain stop and I could barely see a thing, I wave in front of my nose and barely see my hand.
Suddenly a light pierces the darkness, in the darkness of the forest around me. It comes from the direction of the man I was looking for. My curiosity gets the best of me and I walk towards the light. Slowly at first as if I would scare it away. The light doesn't move, breaking the darkness with a warm glow. I start to walk faster, I needed to know what it was.
It doesn't mind if I come closer, I end up slowing down. I've been running for five minutes now. I still seem to be just as far away. But suddenly I seemed closer. I slowly approach the light. I was close enough to make out a form. It was in the form of a man. I stop and dash behind a tree. Had he seen me? I was pretty obvious there. I peek out from my hiding spot and watch the man. I wasn't close enough for details, I take a shuddering breath and jump to another tree. Over and over again, jump after jump.
Finally I'm less than twenty meters away from him. I hold in a gasp as I see who it is. The man from my dreams. He stand there eyes closed facing the direction I came. I expect him to be holding a lantern or flashlight but am mistaken. The warm glow comes from his heart. As I watch, the glow slowly moves through his body. Spreading over, I lose track of time. Lost in a trance as I watch the light spread throughout his body. By around twenty minutes. His feet to his shoulders are glowing, so bright I can see it through his clothes.
His head remains. As I watch it slowly creep upwards past his lips. Turning them to a golden colour. His nose, ears.... Eyes. As soon as it hits his eyes they snap open. His irises are golden and seem to be like living flashlights. I cower behind the tree, hoping he doesn't see me. I risk a peak to see the same with his hair. But instead it turns to flame.
Then it reverses, flames lick at the air. Impossibly going downwards. Taking over his body. He doesn't scream, he laughs maniacally. Smiling he spreads the flames by touching his burning hands to his feet. They hungrily spread until he's a ball of flame. Then he turns to pure fire. Skin is gone, so is everything. Through the flames I can see the forest on the other side of him. I'm frozen with horror. Unable to move, he turns and see's me.
I step from behind the tree. No point in hiding anymore.
"Took you l-l-long enough." I manage to stutter
He doesn't reply, he just turns and raises his hand towards me. Suddenly a stream of fire bursts at me. I dive to the side, barely avoiding the stream of fire. It hits the trees behind me. All I manage to think before he throws more fire at me is: Crap.
