Chapter 12
Bane wasn't joking, I woke up alright. I woke up to Will singing in the shower, he was singing "Roar" by Katy Perry. He was off tune, and very bad! I got up and showered and dressed. By the time I got outside Will was waiting for me humming along too 'California Girls' also by Katy Perry.
"So! You did get up on time!" He slaps me on the back with a broad smile on his face. "Let's go! Shall we?" Without waiting for a response he marches on ahead down the hallway, heading in a direction I've never gone.
"So..." I say casually. "How long have you been an apprentice?"
"About a month."
"About?"
"Ya, about. Can't tell what's the time or what day it is down here."
I realize he's right. I haven't seen a single clock or calendar or, or... Anything!
"Then when do you sleep?"
"When your tired! I haven't been here that long so thats why I'm still around the normal timeline. Like you. Some people here are getting ready for bed as we speak. It makes Nicky Nicky nine-doors so much fun!"
I don't reply, It's kind of hard too reply to that. I look too see if he's joking. But his face is that usual grin. Dang I hate that smile... We continue down the hallway towards what looks like a gym.
"Welcome to the training room!" Will broadcasts like an announcer.
"Uhh, Will. No ones here."
"Ya, this is just for decoration really. Those doors along the walls, each one holds a training room around the size of a tennis court. The red ones are taken, green doors are open. When you walk through the paint colour changes."
Bane suddenly opens the door on the far right. "Come on in! Training starter five minute ago!"
I jog over to Bane with Will at my heels. I open the training room and see pure awesomeness. There are swords on the walls, bows, spears and knifes. Theres a practice dummy, a huge water tank, a Flamethrower, a mini wooden ninja thing like from Kung foo panda that they practiced on. Theres every gun you can imagine. Other trinkets like the wall. I walk up too one and pick it up.
"What's this?" I ask
"I would advise you too put it down Liam," he cautions. I turn to put it back but drop it next too Will.
It expands and grows. It's a grey colour and it moves like water, it latches on too Wills pants and climbs his body. I step back in horror of what I've done. Will sighs.
"Not again..."
Then it covers him completely and freezes. I touch it, it hardened into cement. Will was covered in cement.
"I'm SO sorry! Please forgive me! Is he okay?!" I plead too Bane
He just laughs, he knocks on the cement and it cracks apart. Will falls to the floor with a grunt.
"How?!" I demand.
"It's a cement bomb," Bane explains, "Throw it at the enemy and the closest one is captured, it doesn't kill or suffocate. Kind of puts them too sleep. We use it to get captives. That way we can question prisoners."
"Why didn't you use it on Hegnard?"
"Because, some people are too dangerous to be left alive Liam. Learn that and you will be a strong warrior." Bane advises.
"Umm, sorry to burst your bubble but can I go practice my invisibility or..."
Bane gives a sigh, "you go ahead Will, Liam is going too learn a different magic."
Will walks away too one side of the room and Bane leads me too another.
"Take out that stone of yours Liam." I do, "What was the last thing it did?"
"I killed James, someone from my school. I-I-It was an accident..." I manage to say.
"Interesting, were you in pain?"
"Yes, I was blacking out from it."
He scratches his chin, "Ok. See that door over there? Go in and wait for me. Ok?"
"Ok."
I walk in the room, its a plain old room, a bit on the dark side. I can't see the corners from where I am. The walls are made of metal, smooth along the walls. Suddenly the light goes out. Its pitch black. I try to open the door: Its locked. I walk into the middle of the room where I could see the corners in all directions, that way I'd see any attackers if something came at me. Before I take a step I hear a familiar laugh. Hegnard, he was alive. He just appears from no where in all his flaming glory.
"Bane! Hel-"
He has me by the throat, my skin burns hot. I feel like I'm suffocating. I'm near blacking out, I remember that the stone has magic. I pull it out and squeeze it hard. A blinding flash goes off. The light above explodes and Hegnard flies into the and smashes hard, he slumps too the floor fire out.
The door opens behind me and I find Bane with a flash light. I look at Hegnard and with the light from the flashlight I see that its a robot.
"What was that?" I ask exiting the room.
"It's a testing room. Robots are brought up and have enchantments to grant them certain powers. That had Hegnards."
"But I heard him laughing!" I protest.
"I put that voice in through a recorder and played it in there. I was testing too see if the stone would react too near death. Apparently it does!"
"So what now?" Bane smiles.
"You train some more."
And the days went by. Training in subjects I never imagined. I practiced breathing underwater, blasting flames, using the wind to blast enemies. Flying, telekinesis, and earth magic. Bane says there are more but these are some of the basics. I even had a few sessions with Terry Fied. He taught me how to heal others and I'm proud to says that I could heal a paper cut in less then two minutes. I met more people, learned the grounds and history of the war. Everything was fine. Until today when Will said:
"Can we please have our first assignment?"
Oh dear god no.
Assignments were field missions where they send apprentices on. The danger was real. It was slightly less dangerous than a real mission or open combat but still very dangerous. I learned that from Rick. Rick was excited for his first assignment. He had too recover an agent that was kidnapped by the Resistance. There was only two kidnappers but that didn't matter. Rick died on that mission.
"Sure why not! You two have been ahead of most of the one year apprentices!" Bane admitted.
"Umm, lets not get too far on this, some one year apprentices haven't even!" I complain.
"True, but I'm sure you can handle it Liam. You're already stronger then most one year apprentices with that stone of yours." I guess it was true.
"I'l go talk too Rolly about it! She decides when everyones ready." Bane walks off to find Rolly.
We wait for about five nerve racking minutes, I practice my telekinesis by lifting up a 100 pound weight while floating three feet off the ground. It was a good practice. I started with 10 pound weights and 3 inches off the ground. Then when it got easy. I increased the weight and height. Bane comes back.
"Well?" I ask anxiously.
"Bingo!" Bane gives a thumbs up.
"So what's the mission?" Will asks eagerly.
"It's a tuffy but I'm sure you two can manage."
"So?"
"You have too save Tracey Ludang from a small safe House in Boston." Bane tells us, "It has about ten guards with a high security system."
"What's so big about her?" I ask, "I want to know who I'm exactly risking my life for."
"She has a rare power, almost no one has it. She can reach into and speak to people in their dreams. A useful part of it, when doing this she can locate your whereabouts. The Resistance plans on torturing her to get information from her after she reaches out to us for help."
Will just nods eagerly like a two year old wanting a cookie, and I instantly know who's been in my dreams, who needs my help.
"I'm in."
