Chapter 10
Hmm what do I do? The simplest option. Run
In my mind, I ran like the wind. For hours nonstop like before, leaving this 'Bane' person behind. What actually happened was I turned to run and tripped on a root in my first step. I get up and step on my injured leg and fall again. Bane laughs and calmly walks towards me. I scramble awkwardly backwards away.
"Don't worry Liam, I won't hurt you!" He said
I don't listen, I hop away on one leg away from bane. He follows behind me at a slow walk.
"Please listen to me!" He calls keeping his easy pace while I'm about to fall gasping for air.
"No! Get away from me!" I call back over my shoulder.
I grab a tree and climb up to a branch, with my hurt leg and arm and body, it hurt. And I'm not going to describe how I did it either. I fall of and land at his feet, I glare up at him rubbing my butt where I fell.
"Why should I trust you?" I ask suspiciously
"Because," He says with a smile. "Without me, you won't live another day."
"That doesn't answer my question, why shouldn't you just kill me?" I've stopped moving and stare hard at him.
"I can't prove that Liam, but I'm not lying. They've probably sent another to kill you already."
I'm confused, "Who's 'They've' exactly?" I ask
He turns darkly towards me. "The Resistance." He reaches out with his hand.
"Aren't they good guys?" I ask him confused.
"Not in this world my boy!" He answers darkly. "They say they're the good guys, everyone believes them but us."
"Who's us?"
He doesn't answer.
I take it wearily, "One more question, how do you know my name?"
"All you're questions will be answered in time, and by the way. Do you have that stone Hegnard was talking about?"
"This?" I produce the stone. "What's the big deal about this? Its just a stupid stone!"
He ignores my question. "Ready?"
"Ready for what?"
He smiles at me, "This."
Suddenly I'm surrounded by people, when did they come? Then I realized it, I came to them! Bane walks towards an old Apartment building. He enters and goes to what looks like a janitors closet. He opens it and beckons me inside. Im too dumbfounded to say no. So I limp in and he locks the door behind me and says randomly.
"Bane Hedller, permission to enter?" I look at him like he's insane.
"Permission granted." A voice answers from somewhere within the floor.
A part of the floor opens up and inside there's stairs leading down. He goes down calmly. I hesitate at the top. I don't even know this guy! I go down the stairs anyways. The pathway closes behind me blocking my exit. I continue down long corridors. We pass rooms along the way, I see a few people in rooms and passed a few. Bane twists and turns down the hallways. I follow him afraid to be lost in this huge underground place. My leg started to hurt more then ever! Finally we reach what looks like the centre. People are everywhere, high tech laptops and devices are along the walls. You name it!
Every type of tech is there, probably futuristic ones too! People walk around doing whatever. Somebody walks up to Bane and is about to talk when he sees me. Bane whispers something to him. He nods and walks away. Bane leads me to a room on another hallway. He pulls me in and locks the door. He motions for me to sit and I do.
"Okay questions." He states
"Where are we?" Is what first came to mind out of about a Thousand.
"That city you saw up there? New York. We built this in an abandoned subway system."
"Who are you?"
"Bane Hedller, agent of this base."
"Who did you just kill?"
"Hegnard Dirling"
"How?"
He smiles at me. "Magic."
"Magic? Real magic?"
"Then how do you explain it?" He says
"Ok then, What is this?"
"The real resistance."
"So its like, Resistance VS Resistance?"
"Pretty much, don't ask me! Ask Rolly if you have time!"
"Rolly?"
He sighs, "The leader of our Resistance."
I nod my head in understanding. "How did we get to New York?"
He smiles again, "Magic, this time it was teleportation."
"Why am I here?" I ask with a tone of finality to it, ending the stream of nonstop questions.
"Because," he pauses. "Because of that." He nods at the stone safely in my pocket.
"This?" I bring it out. "Why?"
"Because of the prophecy."
"What p-." He cuts me off.
"The prophecy of the seven stones." He pauses to see if I understand. "And that is the seventh."
"What's the prophecy?"
This time he answers, but I wish he didn't.
"The six stones fell from the sun, choosing humans who are one." He stops to see if im still listening, then he continues. "Once you are chosen, its yours to keep. Only death can release the owners keep. The secret is that six isn't the one, it's seven and that's the powerful one. The Sparkstone grants power to the only one, the chooser between..." Bane hesitates.
"Tell me Bane." I demand.
He sighs defeat. "The chooser between the end or defeat."
"And I have it..." My voice is kind of awkward, it was hard to believe I might die, thats what said at least.
" We just found out that you had the stone in the first place!" Bane reassures me.
"The stone, is this the-."
"Yes it is." Bane finishes.
"You are the owner of the Sparkstone." He tells me.
Well this just got interesting... Then I blacked out onto my chair
