Chapter Six
The figure in front of me looked humanoid but with pointyish ears. He had a mischievous but warm and friendly smile to go along with his sparkling emerald eyes and joyful features. He was pale and a bit frail, and his sandy hair went down to his neck. His hands were calloused and slender and he wore a simple navy robe that went down past his knees. His shoes were of leather and had intricate silver designs on them, as did his robe. He looked up at me with his head tilted slightly. He studied me intently and then after a while I finally said, "So I've seen you've taken an interested to that staff. I figured you would pick that. In fact, so did your grandfather. That's why that compact fits perfectly into the compartment like that.
He designed it for you to put it in there. You see, when a staff has an item of memory or family value, it is more powerful and connects more to the owner of it. But we aren't going to talk about that right now, we have to get you trained. By the way, my name is Gendy. I am an expert in magic and weaponry. I'm here to train you for your dangerous journey. Let's start with the basics and explanations. So basically, you are a magic wielder. You perform magic from inside you. Staffs help you hold your magic energy and can be used as a way of performing it too. The way you master spells is simple. They will be in a spell book that I will give you later. You just recite them and either flick your staff in the direction you want the spell to go or move your hands in the motion the book tells you. " he droned on.
"Now for this journey, you will also have to master a certain type of weapon. We will test your ability with each in here. After that, we will practice everything. Let's get started, shall we?" He gave me a small book filled with book marked pages. It was purple, with a design on it. It was two ovals over lapping inside a circle. "What's this symbol?" I asked. He said, "That's your magic symbol. Every family has one." "Oh, okay." I said. We walked over to an area where there was a lot of space and started with magic. "Okay, so first things first. When reciting a spell, you have to say it with certainty and confidence. Let's try it with a simple levitation spell. I want you to look at that book and wave your hand around clockwise once, then lift it up and say 'Arcellium'," I did what he told me, and the book shot up off the floor, smacked the ceiling and crashed onto a nearby table, sending book and bottles everywhere.
Gendy's eyes went wide in excitement and said, "You really are powerful, aren't ya? The only person to do that on the first try was your grandfather! Anyways, let's continue. Now that you know how to cast a spell with your hands, we will try it with your staff. I want you to use the same spell again, but instead you will flick the staff. Got it?" I nodded my head. "Good." So I walked over to the book and flicked flick my staff and said, "Arcellium" The book did the same thing as before. "Excellent, now let's start on finding your weapon. You look like a bow and dagger kind of girl. Let's try that first." So I went over and grabbed a bow and quiver. Slipping the quiver on my back, I grabbed an arrow and loaded the bow. I didn't know how I knew how to do it at all.
The flight feather of the arrow was almost tickling my ear as I pulled back and aimed for the target set out for me. I let go. The arrow went flying and hit just above the bullseye. My eyes went wide with surprise. As did Gendy's. "Well then, missy," he said," I think we found him your weapon. Now let's try the dagger." I grabbed a dagger and chucked it at another target. Yet again, almost perfect hit. "Well, I must say, you are quite brilliant with those weapons. Though I was going to tell you to try and take a stab at a dummy. Heh heh, get it? Take a stab at it? HAHAHA" I felt very uncomfortable at that point, so I just grabbed a sheath and put the dagger in it and walked over to the potions.
However, much to my annoyance, Gendy noticed this and walked over to me. "Ah yes, the last part of your introduction before training. Potions. Now, each potion has it's own side effects. There are healing potions, breathing potions, and random ones with bad consequences to whomever gets hit by them. Here, let me show you how to make a simple sight potion. First, you pour some Arfitcil leaves mixed with Raciul water into the bottle. Then, add some Foyt powder with a hint of Desart, and there you have it! One sight potion ready for action. This will give you enhanced sight for a total of ten minutes," I examined the bottle. The liquid inside was scarlet and sparkled a bit. Gendy put the cork on and put it in the cabinet.
He turned to me. "You should probably head back so people won't go searchin for ya. Come back tomorrow!" "I will!" I replied. And I went back up the stairs to the edge of the lake. To my surprise, the lake went back to normal when I turned back. I guess it only stays open for a bit. It was still dark out as I snuck back to the house. I climbed back up the tree and into my room. Surprisingly, there wasn't a ticked off looking Carter in my room. So I decided to practice my magic for a bit. I opened my spell book and found a spell that could create light. I moved my hand counterclockwise twice and said, "Illution". Then came a little ball if white light in my hand. I played with it for a while. Examining it and learning from it. After a while, I decided it was best to go to sleep. So I hid the spell book and drifted off into the abyss of darkness.
