The Grace Class and The Speed Race
"Which three would like to go first? It's okay if you don't go first, you'll all get a chance." Violet said.
All of the kids raised their hands. Samuel, Zachary, and Kimberly picked out three kids from the crowd. The kids mounted Shadow and the others and waited for their instructions. Violet mounted Daisy, to give them a demonstration.
"Now watch me. You want to jump over the hurdle without hitting it, or knocking it over." Violet said.
She kicked Daisy, and she started running. When hurdles appeared to view, Daisy jumped over every hurdle without hitting them. When Violet came back around, the group of kids applauded.
"Now, it's your turn. Why don't you go first?" Violet asked a boy on Ace.
"Oh, okay. I'll give it a try. Let's do this, Ace." the boy said.
Ace neighed with agreement. He kicked Ace, and she started running. When the hurdles came to view, Ace jumped over every hurdle without hitting them. The two came back around, and Violet applauded.
"That was great. Who's next?" Violet asked.
"I'll go next," said a girl on Shadow.
"Oh, word of advice. Hold onto the reins really tight. Shadow is very fast." Samuel said.
"Okay."
The girl kicked Shadow, and he started running. Shadow was running faster than ever. Even faster now that Ezra is back. The hurdles came to view, and Shadow jumped over every hurdle without knocking them over. The two came back around and Violet applauded.
"That was great. Looks like you're the last one," Violet said to the boy on Barbell.
"Oh... okay, but I don't think I can do it," he said.
"Hey. You don't have nothing to fear. Tell you what. I'll ride with you the first time, and then you can ride on your own, okay?"
"Okay."
Violet mounted Barbell, and sat behind the boy. She kicked Barbell, and he started running. Then, the hurdles came to view.
"First rule of jumping: keep your eye on how high the jump is." Violet said.
With that, Barbell jumped over three hurdles.
"Second rule of jumping, and most important: be graceful." Violet said said.
Barbell jumped over every last hurdle without hitting them, or knocking them over. They came back around, and Violet dismounted Barbell.
"Now, you try." Violet said.
"Okay." the boy said.
He kicked Barbell, and he started running. When the hurdles came to view, Barbell jumped over every hurdle without knocking them over. The two came back around, and Violet applauded.
"I knew you could do it." Violet said.
"Thanks to you, Ms. Violet." the boy said.
Violet smiled and turned to the group of kids.
"Like I said, you need to keep your eye on how high the jump is, and be graceful. So... who wants to go next?" Violet asked.
The class went by smoothly, and every kid loved it. Two hours have past, and Natalie came back from the meeting.
"So, how did the class go?" she asked.
"It went by very nicely. All of the kids loved it." Violet said.
"Well, that's good to hear. So, you guys heading out to Pinewood Pastures?"
"Yes. But, why don't we go tomorrow morning? That way we can get an early start." Kimberly said.
"Good idea." Zachary said.
"Well, you have the rest of the day to do whatever you want."
Natalie smiled and walked away.
"Well, what do you guys want to do?" Samuel asked.
"How about we race? We haven't done one in a while." Zachary suggested.
"Good idea. Let's head to the race track." Kimberly said.
They mounted their horses and headed to the race track. They lined up and waited for the signal to start.
"Three times round?" Violet asked.
"Yeah." Zachary replied.
"On your mark, get set... GO!" Kimberly said.
The four were off. As they ran, the ground shook, and it sounded like thunder. Kimberly was in the lead.
"Catch me if can!" Kimberly said, cheerfully.
"We'll see about that, Kim!" Samuel said.
Samuel sped up and passed Kimberly.
"Hey! No fair!" Kimberly said.
"Mind if we join?" Zachary asked, neck and neck with Kimberly.
"Oh no you don't! Not without me!" Violet said, passing Zachary and Kimberly.
Kimberly smiled and sped up. As they were racing, a crowd was gathering to see the race. Lap one was history, and lap two has started. Samuel was in the lead.
"Catch me if you can!" Samuel said, mocking Kimberly.
"With pleasure!" Kimberly said, speeding up.
"Let's catch up Zach. They're leaving us in the dust!" Violet said.
"No, they're leaving YOU in the dust!" Zachary said, speeding up.
"Oh no you didn't!"
The friends were having so much fun. Lap two is done, and the final lap is near. It's a neck and neck race with Kimberly and Samuel. The sound of cheering could be heard from everywhere.
"You won't win this race I'm afraid!" Samuel said.
"We'll see about that!" Kimberly said.
"Don't forget about us!" Violet said.
Zachary and Violet had caught up with the two. Now it was neck and neck and neck and neck. The finish line was drawing near, and the friends sped up. It was cutting it close, but it was a tie. The crowd that they gathered started to cheer and applaud. The friends dismounted their horses, and took a bow. Then, Natalie and Ezra came over.
"That was an amazing race, you guys. Reminds me of when I raced with the rest of the Sounds of Thunder," Ezra said.
"Indeed." Natalie said.
"Well, we raced all the time back at home." Violet said.
"Well, how about when all of the Sounds of Thunder are back, why don't we all race together? You four against us four."
"That would be awesome!" Zachary said.
"We would love to!" Samuel said.
Ezra smiled and turned to Natalie.
"Well, it's getting late. Let's head to the cafeteria to have dinner, and then hit the hay. Follow me, everyone." Natalie said, and started walking.
Everyone followed her to the cafeteria, and ate a wonderful made dinner. After that, everyone went to their dorm rooms and went to bed.
