Chapter 27: Break Down Number One Of..

Hey guys o: How you be? Good?

Good. :D

Enjoy, I guess. :3

************

I NEVER EXPECTED  to see my cousins sister standing in front of the door. Seriously, I was just sitting at home reading Eragon (Ironic right?) when someone comes to the door.

I open it to reveal Jen's sister who is practically a spitting image of her. It makes me sad instantly, mainly because she looks so much like Jen.

"Hi," Harmony says quietly, looking at me.

I force myself to look at her face even though it pains me too. It's not that I didn't want to, well okay I kinda wanted to look away, but she just..reminds me too much of Jen. But I love Harmony, so I gave her a small smile. "Hi."

"I.." She trailed off, looking around. "How are you?"

"Good." I lean my cheek against the door. "You?"

"Okay." She looked worse than okay. She looked pale and tired. "Just adjusting."

"Yeah.." I look away and said, "Want to come inside?"

She nodded and stepped inside. I shut the door and wait as she takes her coat and shoes off, putting them to the side.

"Harmony," I said as we enter the living room.

"Yeah?" She didn't look at me, the living room seemed to be her main point of interest.

"I can tell you aren't okay.." I sit down on the couch.

"I.." She hesitates then sighed, sitting down besides me. "I haven't been sleeping lately. I've been helping to investigate Jen's murder."

"Oh." A lump forms in my throat, and I urge it down. "D-did they find anything?"

She gave me a small, hopeful smile. "Yes."

Her words slowly registered through my head. "You did?"

She nodded. "Yes."

"What did they find?"

"They identified the person who murdered her," she says quietly. "They also found her scarf in his car when they searched, which was covered in blood."

"Do they have the bastard in custody?" I cursed before I could stop myself.

"No." My heard dropped to my stomach like bricks.

"No?"

"He's on the run," Harmony told me. "He's-"

"Faye, sweet-" Mom stops in front of the living room and looks at us. "Harmony?"

"Hi Aunt Carol," Harmony greets, getting up.

"Oh, sweetheart," Mom says, walking over and pulling her into a hug. I saw Harmony's shoulders shake in a sob. Mom looks at me over her shoulder and shook her head.

I nod, understanding what she wants me to do. I get up  and walk out the door, heading to the one person I want to talk to: Lucy.

***

"Have you been crying?" Lucy asked when she shut the door quietly behind me.

I pull my coat closer to me, sniffling. I nod and blink away the tears that blurred my eyes.

Lucy makes a sympathetic sounds and pulls me down onto her bed next to her gently, slowly leading me to her shoulder. The tears fall as soon as my face reaches her shoulder, and I don't bother to hold them back.

Lucy wrapped her arms around me and rubbed my back in attempts to comfort me. "Shh..it's okay.."

"My..c-cousin came over," I said in between hiccuping sobs. "She's bee-been working w-with the police," I paused when a hiccup escaped my mouth. "T-they found the killer but he's on t-the run."

Lucy took in a deep, sharp breath and rubbed my back. "Faye..I'm so sorry.."

"M-me too," I curled up against her and continued to cry. "I didn't know where to go, L-Luce. Jackson's away a-at his p-parents, J-Jordan is with Arch, and I don't even know where Quince i-is."

"It's okay," she whispered. "I'm not going anywhere, Faye. I promise."

I sniff, continuing to cry. I felt Lucy shift over a little and what sounded like a tap, then a quiet ringing.

A few seconds later, a voice answered from somewhere.

"Hey," Lucy said quietly. I thought she was talking to me until I glanced up through my tear-filled burning eyes and saw a blurred shape of her phone. "Can you come over?"

The voice gave a short answer, sounding questioning.

Her head turned away from me, I saw from the corner of my eye, and spoke quietly. I only heard a few words,  "Not..state..come over..yeah..Bye."

I didn't bother asking, if I did the only thing that would be heard were sobs and choking sounds.

"Here, here," Lucy says to me shifting and laying me down on the bed. I gulp in response, trying to stop sobbing so I can speak properly. Lucy detached her arms from around me.

"I'll go get you some water, okay?" she murmured to me, hand on my shoulder.

My only response was a weak, but cracking, sob.

I hear the faucet turn on for a few moments then turn off again. Footsteps approach me, and I open my eyes. Lucy sits down on the bed and holds out the water. I sit up shakily and take it from her, casting her a thankful look.

I drank half of it then set it on the side-table. I pull off my coat and Lucy takes it from me, throwing it over the couch arm and watching me, concerned.

I slide my shoes off and drop them by the bed then pull my knees up to my chest, putting my face in my arms.

The door opens and shuts. "What's wrong?"

I know who it is. Quince.

I hear her take her coat and shoes off, then coming over to me. Lucy finally says, "She came over and just..broke down."

"Did she say why?" Quince asked. I felt her sit beside me and I glance up to see her reaching out, and placing a hand on my back. She pulls me towards her, and I accept the embrace, needing comfort. She wrapped both arms around my shoulders and placed her chin on my right shoulder, rubbing my arm with her hand.

"Jen's sister came over," Lucy replied. I wanted to beg Lucy not to say why I came, because Jen was Quince's mentor. "She told Faye.."

"Yes?" Quince's embrace tightened, but in a protective way.

"Apparently they found their murderer," Lucy explained. "But he's on the run."

"Holy shit," Quince murmured.

I sniffle and compose myself a little, and manage to say, "Break down number one of.."

"Who knows?" Lucy murmured, hugging Quince and I. We sat in a group hug for another twenty minutes.
