Faye
"Come on." Jordan's hand landed softly on my shoulder again this morning, shaking me gently. "Wake up, Faye."
"Leave me alone," I moan, hitting the pillow with my face again.
I feel her gently shake my shoulder again and I narrow my eyes up at her as they adjust to the light. "What?"
"We need to talk," she tells me.
"What's there to talk about.." I mumble, not really listening, nor paying attention as I was half asleep.
She shook me again. "Faye, seriously."
I sigh, open my eyes and sit up in bed. "Okay, okay fine."
She sat across from me and took my hand. "You still won't tell Mom and Dad about me being pregnant, right?"
I frowned, hurt that she would even think I'd do that. "Of course not, Jordan. You of all people should know I wouldn't do something like that."
"I know," she replied. "I'm just more cautious lately. Arch is..Looking out."
"Looking out?"
"He told me last night that there's some people who are out for your blood."
I felt chills go up my spine. "Me?"
"Yes." She nodded.
"Why would Arch care about me, exactly?" I ask slowly. He's a demon, after all. I thought to myself. I can see him caring for Jordan, I saw the way he looked at her.
But me? It doesn't seem so.
"Arch knows how much you mean to me," Jordan tells me. "And he likes you."
I stared at her.
"Like a sister." Jordan smiled a little.
"We barely know each other ..?" I say slowly.
"I know," she said. "Which is why we're going out today. All three of us."
"Um." I hesitate. "Look, I don't know if that's a good idea."
"Why not?" she asks, pouting.
"I don't know him, Jordan," I tell her again.
"Which is why it's a good idea for you to get to know each other!" she told me, running her hands through her hair. "Okay, okay, I can see why you find it weird that a demon wants to hang out with his mate's sister."
"It's more than weird," I murmur. "It's completely confusing."
"He wants you to accept him," she tells me, sighing. She looked down at her hands. "Accept that I'm his mate and you're going to be an aunt of our child."
"Your?"
She nodded, biting her lip. "It's his."
"Oh." Somehow that didn't surprise me, maybe because I trust Arch to treat my sister like she's the only girl in the world.
"I guess I understand if you don't want to." She shook her head, looking down.
"It's not that," I assured her. "I'm just confused as to why he wants to get to know me, is all."
She smiled and laughed a little. "I guess he cares a little what some people think of him."
I smiled. "Which is why I think he'll be good for you. He cares."
She leaned over and hugged me. We hugged for five minutes before she pulled away and got up. "We should get ready."
"Yeah." I murmured. When she left I got dressed in a nice creamy dress with a brown belt on the waist, tall brown boots, and I brushed my hair out.
"You're dressed nicely." I turn to see Jackson.
"Thanks." I turn back to the mirror, picking up one of my earring and start to put it in.
"Going anywhere special?"
"Out with my sister." I didn't turn to him as I picked up the other earring. "You, however, have been avoiding me."
"Sorry." He rubbed the back of his neck. "I didn't want to bother you when you're er..having a rough time."
"Is it so hard to say?" I chuckled with amusement. "Period. There. And you're here now."
"You're still on it?"
"It lasts about a week, Jackson," I tell him, snorting. "Not two."
"Right." He shifted uneasily, looking a little queasy. "Um..I'm just gonna.."
"Why is it so hard to mention period, Jackson?" I ask, staring at him.
He shrugged, rubbing his shoulder. "Because it's gross."
My lips curve up a little. "Like you aren't gross a little yourself?"
"But it's just..like..ugh.." he shuddered, looking queasy again.
I laugh. "Weak stomach for one who eats a lot."
"I don't have a weak stomach, it's just weird how girls work," he defended stubbornly.
"Oh yes." I roll my eyes. "And us girls are just as confused as to how guys work."
"Well," he says, smirking. "The way we work is simple. Eat, sleep, girls."
"Okay. Ew."
He laughed, the sound like a melody in my ears. "That's most guys anyways."
"Sure."
"But a girl," he says, smirking, "is very complicated. It goes like this: Eat, workout, worry, boys, text, eat again, gossip, worry a little more, boys again, text a lot more, drama, drama, yes I know I said drama twice, whining, working out, shopping-"
"Okay." I pick up my purse, putting my phone in it. "I don't have time to deal with your idiocy."
"I'm not done, though," he protested, trying not to laugh by the looks of it.
"Yes we are," I said, pointing towards the door. "Let's go, stupid."
"This isn't over, Butterfly," he whispers, lips grazing my ear. Sparks shot through me, making my hormones bounce everywhere.
I try to keep my breathing in check as he smirks and leaves.
"I'm gonna kick your ass," I mutter, slamming the door shut and following him up the stairs.
"Sure."
"Don't forget I'm still pissed off at you."
"I don't think you are," he tells me when we got to the top of the stairs and walked out of the basement.
"I am." I shut the door. "I just don't think about it as much, plus I'm learning to try to not be angry."
He shrugged. "I'm not proud of it, Butterfly."
"You're parents seem to be," I say before thinking.
He glared at me.
I regret my words, sure, but not completely. "What? It's true."
"You don't know if my parents are proud of it!" he snaps.
"Oh really?" I hiss back. "When I asked them about it, they said it wasn't a big deal."
His eyes flashed with anger. "So what?"
"So what?" I repeat, wanting to punch something or someone. "You..you're an asshole, Jackson! You take blood from dragons!"
"And that's my fault?"
"Did I say it was?" I snarl. "No, I didn't. But it's as if your parents don't care that dragons are important to some people!"
"We only use one dragon per year-"
"Use," I spat, with a scoff. "You tie them up in chains and don't let them fly. They cut their wings off. Have you not read about dragons, Jackson, or need I remind you? A dragons wings are more important then you think. I'm surprised they don't die when they get cut off."
"Faye-" he starts, but I whirl around and storm out to where my sister was waiting in the driveway.
