Quidditch Quandaries

Alessandra took careful notes as Mcgonagall started to write on the chalkboard. Her focus shattered when the door slammed open and in raced Cher sliding into the seat next to her. The poor girl looked a mess no doubt she overslept, pieces of hair stuck up all over her head and her eyes had dark circles under them.

"Miss Connery perhaps you should get to bed at an earlier date for now copy the former notes off of miss Ibris and get caught up quickly I will pause for a few moments~" Alessandra blinked and turned her parchment back over and let Cher copy. "What were you doing up so late scouting boys, I overheard some of the other first years talking about them~?" Cher shakes her head. "Okay in my defense the fish kept banging against my window and if you want to talk about boys we can~" Alessandra raised a curious eyebrow. "What exactly do you mean by that Cher~?" Cher let a canary eating grin crawl across her face. "You, Blaise and Draco seem to be pretty tight already and it certainly looked like you were scoping out boys all on your own the only question is which one has caught your eye~?" Alessandra coughed. "It's purely platonic with both of them I'm hardly interested in romance I'm eleven what use do I have for a boyfriend~?"  Cher winks playfully. "It's never to late to think ahead besides, I'm mostly just teasing anyway thanks for the notes your a lifesaver~"

Mcgonagall went on teaching and they learned how to turn birds into water goblets. It wasn't that difficult of a spell to learn you just had to treat it carefully which Alessandra excelled at. She took the time to learn the motions and words knowing that success relied upon understanding. It took her a few tries but it shifted right after the third one.

"I cast my first real spell and it actually worked I can't believe it. Cher look at how awesome this goblet is...Cher~?" She looked over and spied her friend waving her wand furiously at the silver goblet. "It's not working~!" Alessandra grabbed her hand gently. "Don't kill anyone my friend. This is a spell that requires a careful hand and patience if you wave your wand around to much unpleasant spells could go off~" Cher pouts and sighs. "Why is she teaching a second year spell anyway we should only be learning first year spells~" Alessandra smiles as she thinks about it. "She may want to test our natural aptitude sometimes it's good to get a measure of where your baseline is and giving us a difficult spell is one of the ways to find that baseline~"

The rest of the class was uneventful some were able to pull it off others didn't have a prayer. She got up out of her chair and then walked to Mcgonagall's desk. "Professor do you need help with anything else~?" Mcgonagall shook her head. "No miss Ibris but thank you for this morning have a good day and I look forward to your first written assignment~" Alessandra nodded and left the room as she walked down the hall to her next class she heard a commotion from down the hall. She hurries down the corridor and sees a girl maybe a year older than her. The young woman had long curly hair and it's color was similar to milk chocolate the two trolls from earlier were pushing her around maybe because she sported Gryffindor colors.

"Crabbe, Goyle stop it right this instant have some dignity, she's probably done nothing for you~!" Goyle turns to her. "Yeah right she's a filthy mudblood and one of potters followers your a Slytherin and a pureblood you should despise her too~!" Alessandra felt heat flooding her body familiar rage began to bubble to the surface how dare they say something like that. She whipped out her wand and hexed both of them before they could make a move towards their own. "Get out of my sight or you'll suffer far worse~!" They immediately ran like the cowards they were.

Alessandra turned to the young woman and immediately helped her pickup her supplies. "I'm so sorry about them, they had no right to speak to you like that I'm Alessandra Ibris by the way it's nice to meet you~!" She offers her hand after picking everything up, the other girl eyed her carefully it was almost as if she didn't quite trust Alessandra. The young woman shook her hand after a few moments a small smile spreading across her face. "I'm Hermione Granger, I have question why did you help me~?" Alessandra bows her head. "It was wrong of them to bully you I despise bullies, blood purist even more so. I was simply doing the right thing Hermione~" She tilted her head curiously. "You had the choice to be sorted into any house you desired yet you chose Slytherin, despite not hating muggle borns nor caring about blood purity forgive me but that's rather peculiar~" Alessandra sighed. "Not all Slytherin's parade around like we rule the world take Blaise Zabini for example he could care less about who is or isn't pureblood and Theodore Nott who I've noticed sits quietly and reads. I also have a secret and you seem kind and honest enough for me to share with. You see Hermione I'm actually muggle born myself, my mum and dad were horrifically murdered by a death eater when I was quite young. My dad knew the Ibris family and their secret however so he made them my god parents wanting me to have a good life where I would feel normal amongst magic if anything were to happen to them. Dumbledore arranged for my identity to be concealed within public records and my adoptive mum also lost her baby right before everything was finalized so I slide in and took her place most other families were none the wiser. Dumbledore feared for my safety due to the death eater who killed my family, he walks free to this very day so until I can defend myself properly they agreed it best to keep it quite~" Hermione covered her mouth in shock and then slowly began to speak in a quiet tone. "We should go somewhere more quiet and private I don't want anyone overhearing~!"

Hermione took her hand and lead her to a private classroom. "Your mad if Slytherin finds out the truth you'll never get a moments peace or worse someone could seriously hurt you. I would be worried for my safety if I were you but I also admire your courage no wonder the sorting hat thought you would be good in Gryffindor~" Alessandra nods and then smiles softly. "I have to prove Slytherin wrong I have to prove muggle borns can be just as successful as pureblood's, that may change things no I have to change things and prove people wrong that's why I joined Slytherin when I graduate I'm publicly announcing the truth so they can know just how good I am~" Hermione smiles and nods. "That's quite ambitious if you ever need help studying I would be happy to offer any studying assistance I can after all I've seen your work in class and your quite brilliant being able to cast a second year spell so easily. I think my friends would like you too your welcome in our group anytime I do have to be going, sadly Harry has quidditch practice and Ron and I are going to watch you can come if you want. Slytherin might be trying to practice as well.~" Alessandra nods. "I'll join you after I head to the great hall to check in with my friends I have room make sure they haven't blown anything up~"

She waved goodbye to Hermione and saw her get abducted by two tall red heads but she didn't seem to be in any danger so Alessandra continued on her way. The great hall had fewer people than normal but she spied Blaise and Draco at the table, Draco looked like he had the stuffing knocked out of him. "Draco what happen your robes are a mess~?!" She quickly pulled her wand and cast a basic cleaning charm she heard Blaise chuckle off to the side. "It was a minor potions experiment going horribly wrong somehow Draco got partnered with Goyle, and let's just say that the skill gap there is quite significant what a horrible handicap to have. I think Professor Snape was disgusted with everyone today because he created the strangest pairings~!" Draco sighed and laid his head upon the table. "I have to write a ten page paper on why salamander tail causes a horrid reaction in a strengthening potion and I'm not even the one who added it in. Goyle was smart enough to flee the scene before Snape could grab him I should have taken off after him~" Alessandra put her hand on Draco's shoulder and then smiled. "Well at the very least you'll get some quidditch practice in I hear that you are the seeker for Slytherin this year you must have worked hard to earn that position~" He shakes his head. "Actually not at all my father got me onto the team I was mostly joking when I said it would be awesome to be a seeker I suppose I'm stuck with it now~"

She frowned and started to eat her snack while waiting for the time to leave and head down to the pitch where the rest of the quidditch team was no doubt waiting for them. She walked there with the boys and saw the rest of them gathered around Draco slipped into the tent to change cloths along with Blaise while she waited patiently. The others looked her over and it made her rather uncomfortable but soon Blaise and Draco rejoined her. A loud voice sounded behind her and she turned to see a taller boy with short brown hair and a Gryffindor quidditch uniform.

"We have the pitch today so get your Slytherin arses off the field~!" Hermione stepped out from behind him she was with a boy with black hair and green eyes and a red head with blue eyes Alessandra assumed one was Harry Potter. "Alessandra this is Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley~" she shakes both of their hands politely and smiles. "A pleasure to meet you boys~" That's when Draco walked over and started to stare down Harry. "What's the matter Potter you look shocked to see me it looks like I'm finally your greatest competition and wouldn't you know it I have a brand new broom. You haven't got a chance Potter~!" Hermione stepped forward and looked directly into Draco's eyes. "At least no one on Gryffindor had to buy their way in they got on through talent~" Draco's face scrunched up and he stepped right in front of Hermione. "No one asked your opinion you filthy little mudblood~!" Alessandra felt her heart twist and before she could even process what happened she had slapped Draco square across the face. "How dare you speak to her that way, you think it's funny to act all superior like you own the world do you. You think because you come from a long line of inbreeding you have an inherent advantage, I've got news for you there is no natural advantages Hermione is one of the most brilliant people I've meet and if you can't see her value as a person then I don't have any words that can put into perspective how pathetic you are Draco Malfoy now apologize to her this instant or I am going back to the dorm and you can forget about me speaking to you ever again~!" Blaise looked like he was going to choke on air and Ron had been slowly drawing his wand but her outburst had caused him to stop and shiver. Draco could feel the sting from both her strike and her words. There was no way to dispute what she said and he had so very few real friends. "Granger I'm sorry I should not have said that I shouldn't let my personal conflict with you lead to remarks like that...you guys go on and practice I don't feel like it anymore~" he walked away from the pitch leaving them all in silence.

Blaise strolled over to her and took a deep breath. "I know how you feel Alessandra but that was pretty rough Draco has never known anything but what his father preaches to him, it was wrong what he said I know it hits you personally, I also know that he is lost and needs help so maybe you could go apologize and try and talk to him you might just get a point across. I have some of his favorite candy you can use it to your advantage~" he pulls out two boxes of exploding bon bons. "Draco's father doesn't like for him to eat a lot of sweets it might mess up his figure or something I don't know Lucius is crazy~" she takes them and smiles. "Thank you Blaise I'll go give them to him and maybe try and make up for that scene~"

She walks off in the direction Draco went and the more she walked the closer she came to the black lake there she saw him sitting under a tree all alone it was depressing to say the least she also heard soft sobbing. When she got closer she watched him quickly dry his eyes and the red mark was present on his cheek.

"What do you want Ibris haven't you done enough damage for one day I thought you were going back to the dorm~"  She carefully sat down beside him under the shade of the tree and offered him one of the boxes of bon bons. "That was only if you didn't apologize which is what I'm about to do now. I'm sorry I shouldn't have hit you Draco I just can't stand to hear people called that it boils my blood and was never taught in my household~" He slowly opened the box making sure it wasn't tampered with. "Lucky you that's all father ever goes on about is how we're in decline and how great Voldemort was when he wasn't even a pureblood to begin with. He would have tossed all of us aside as soon as he got what he wanted he didn't really want to help purebloods all he wanted was power even I've read that much~" Draco pops one of the bon bon's in his mouth. "I used to think muggle borns had different colored blood or that they had some kind of horrible defect that would let me pick them out but there was no such sign if I didn't know someone was muggle born from other clues I would be blind to telling the difference but if I don't hold onto that thought then father may not have any further use for me~" Alessandra's heart broke upon hearing this clearly this man had caused Draco a lot of pain didn't think twice about it. "I know it seems hard but one day you'll be free from him free to be your own man I don't think Blaise or I would sell you out for being kind to others~" Draco ate another bon bon and sighed. "What my father says is most certainly rubbish I've seen it in action why if you were a muggle born I wouldn't be able to tell, maybe your right. I can't take back what I've said or done but I don't want to be alone forever without any real friends either Blaise has no need to put up with me but he does and now your trying to give me a chance. I won't call anyone that ever again the more I think the more wrong it sounds I did it to look tough and nothing more~" She put her hand on his shoulder before gently pulling him into a hug. "You don't have to feel like your on your own Draco not with Blaise and I around~" she felt him hug back. "I think I would like that and thanks for the candy maybe this year won't be so miserable after all. I will have to start focusing on quidditch however a game is coming up~" Alessandra eats another bon bon feeling it pop. "I'm looking forward to it~"
