Bumbling Bookshops
Alessandra's eyes tracked everything going on but it was almost too much wizards and witches of all ages walked about shopping. The vendors pushing their sweet and savory treats along with other items the smell of the fresh bread alone tantalized her if she had any money left over she would buy herself a snack. She rummaged through her book bag and pulled out her list the first thing was school books which meant finding the book store she didn't have to look far due to a witch passing out flyers.
"You little miss come here boy do I have a surprise for you the famous Gilderoy Lockhart is doing book signings today in Flourish and Blots from your cloths I can tell your a new student so out of the kindnesses of mister Lockhart's heart he's offering a free set of books to each new witch or wizard~" the woman looked to be middle age with raven hair her brown eyes danced around but there was something sickly sweet about her there had to be another angle to this whole free gimmick unless the autographs cost money that would make sense.
"Thank you I'll head there right away for the signing and thank you for the books miss~"
She put the set in her bag careful not to ruffle anything inside she then continued her journey down the alley and arrived in front of the old green shop. It was packed to the brim witches and wizards of all ages were waiting in line to have their copies signed whoever this fellow was he must have been quite popular. That's when the smell of too much cologne hit her dead in the face it was so over bearing it made her stomach turn. Her eyes darted around looking for the source of the foul odor assailing her senses they fell on a man sitting at a large desk in the middle of the room. That had to be Lockhart he looked exactly like the man by the authors note in the text but noticeably less muscular, golden hair sat like a mop atop his head and his eyes trailed all over the adoring fans. The clothing he wore was gaudy and made her uncomfortable with how flashy it was and how terribly it went together she knew the type self important and probably didn't know half of what he was talking about she tried to ignore it and continue with her shopping.
She hurried up the stairs to get away from the horrible smell and took a deep breath of the bookstores air. One of her favorite scents in the world was that of old and new books it was a comforting smell reminding her of when her family would have story night or when mum would buy each of them a new book. A library was her scared place somewhere she could go on an adventure through someone else's eyes, each world was different and exciting which craved routine got boring after awhile. She went along putting books in her basket some on her shopping list others she would like for personal reasons anything having to do with magical creatures was high on her list. One by one they were knocked out til only her potions book remained she saw it across the isle and made a dash for it seeing as it appeared to be the last copy that's when she felt collision with something hard yet squishy she fell to the ground along with whatever she hit. Strawberry curls fell all around her head and she felt a soreness in legs but it wasn't anything to major.
"Ow my head what on earth was that~?" A groan sounded across from her and a young man slowly sat up he couldn't have been much older than she was, his slicked back platinum blond hair reflected the limited amount of light in the store, steely grey blue eyes stared her down and she felt a shiver run up her spine. His clothing was mostly black but she could That his scarf and emblem on his chest screamed Slytherin. Ivan always spoke poorly of a Slytherin that matched up with this young man's look.He was clearly upset at the sudden impact, she watched as he got back on his feet and brushed himself off she then stood as well seeing it as a bit rude he didn't even offer to help.
"I'm terribly sorry I should have looked where I was going it's just that it seemed to be the last book, I needed it for school~" he huffed and looked her over. "Do you have any idea who you just bowled over~?!" She shook her head and then tilted it slightly. "No I'm sorry I have no clue who you are~" He began to tap his foot. "Malfoy, Draco Malfoy and you would do well not to forget it~" she then extended her hand. "Alessandra Ibris a pleasure to make your acquaintance now that we've had a smashing introduction~" he ignored her hand and rose a perfect eyebrow. "Why are you running about like a bloody hippogriff with its head cut off~?" She lowered her hand. "Well I'm new and my siblings seemed to have disappeared something must have gone wrong with the floo network so I honestly have no clue what I'm doing~" Draco saw an opportunity too good to pass up. "I can help you find your way around but you'll owe me a favor redeemable at anytime~" Alessandra pauses for a few moments and thinks on it. "Fine you have yourself a deal Draco Malfoy now I have to pay for my things but if you really want the book you can have it I'm sure the potions lab at Hogwarts has some spares~" He seriously thought about taking it but this kindness was unusual. "I'll simply have father get me a better copy I have no need for that ratty thing~" she frowns at this but nods. "Well then I'm ready to check out the next stop is Olivanders I have to get a wand it's all so exciting I'll be able to preform real magic I've studied text books quite a bit you see~!"
She noticed Draco wasn't paying any attention to her and then looked over the balcony with him a small group of people had just walked in. Draco walked downstairs quickly and she followed wondering what all the fuss was about.
"Well if it isn't Potter and his gang of goons getting second hand books no doubt and your in the company of weasels and a know it all my my your associates are of such high quality~" she could hear the sarcasm dripping off his words but she stepped forward and offered her hand. "I'm Alessandra Ibris a pleasure to meet you all~" the young man with black hair and green eyes stepped forward he wore lots of red's and golds he must have been Gryffindor. "Harry Potter it's a pleasure I'm sorry Malfoy is being such a prat I'm sure you have nothing to do with him~" the young woman steps forward next shaking her hand. "I'm Hermione Granger it's a pleasure to meet you I take it your a new student~" she nods shyly Hermione was so confident. "Yes I am actually~" Hermione nods. "If you ever need a study partner I would be glad to lend you my time~" The last one stepped forward he had bright red hair and blue eyes. "I'm Ronald Weasley but just call me Ron most people do and I know that name your family works with my dad sometimes your father is a famous auror blimey that's so cool~" A younger red haired girl about her age smiled. "I'm Ginny Weasley it's nice to make your acquaintance~"
A cold air then swept through the shop through the entrance strode a tall man with long blond hair and the same blue grey eyes as Draco. With every step he took pride seemed to reflect in the sound he bore a cane that had a snakes head and he wore all black, he had to be Draco's father her own father had told her horror stories of what Lucius Malfoy had done but there was a personal stake for her.
"Ah Draco I see you have found one of the Ibris family one of the original twenty eight a fine friend indeed but as I recall your family tends to fall on the wrong side of history~" she felt her blood start to boil even though he was intimidating she meet the older man's eyes. "I suppose that would depend on who you talk to now wouldn't it mister Malfoy~?. The right side of history is just so subjective don't you think but then again I believe you are trying to bring up a certain point that you disagree with the side my family took during the wizarding war. Your insinuating that my family are blood traitors because they're order of the Phoenix but if that's the wrong side of history then I'm proud to be on it much better to die than to be enslaved to a tyrannical monster don't you think~?"
She saw Lucius's eye twitch a bit and then he grabbed Ginny's books. "Your father still brings in so little money that you have to buy these old things shameful~" An older red haired man walked in and narrowed his eyes at Lucius. "That's enough unhand my daughters belongings and go your own way Lucius~" he drops it back in the cauldron and then turns to Draco.
"See that miss Ibris completes the rest of her shopping safely after all her family is to important to make enemies of~" he walked away leaving the area in silence she turned to Draco and saw he was quite uncomfortable.
"We don't have to stay we can get out of here after I pay for my books then we can go wand shopping that's relaxing right~?" She dragged him over to the counter with her and paid for her things before walking out with him.
"Alright point the way to the wand shop and we will be off~!" She noticed his sad expression and then stopped walking. "Are you alright Draco you look pale even for you~" he turned his head away sharply. "I'm fine let's just get this over with shall we I'm only here for that favor so don't pretend to be my friend~" her tone took on a softer octave as she moved in front of him gently stopping. "I am not one for pretend I say what I mean and stick to it, your frightened that if you open up you'll get hurt I'm sure you've been raised to be the perfect picture of pride in oneself but it's never to later to change course it's never to late to become something better something more than a facade~"
He didn't make eye contact and just continued down the street until they come to a old shop in the window sat a single wand on the pillow she opened the door and took in all the sights. The whole place was stacked to the brim with wand boxes with only a single chair she saw someone come out of the back.
"Welcome to ollivander' s I'm Garrick Olivander How May I assist you miss and mister Malfoy it is a pleasure to see you once again~"
She stepped up to the counter and gave him a pleasant smile, he was an old man but his eyes conveyed a youthful passion no doubt for his wands.
"I'm Alessandra Ibris sir and I was looking to purchase a wand for my first year I know that the wand chooses the wizard and wandlore is one of my favorite subjects sir I'm eager to see what I get~" he chuckled. "A young lady after my own heart then I'll need to take some measurements just relax and let the tape measure do it's work~"
She watches as the tape measure weaves through the air and then crawls onto her body it measure all aspects of her even things that didn't seem necessary to wand size Olivander rubbed his hands together and then smiled.
"That's enough I have just the wand in mind in you I sense a certain integrity of character you desire to protect those you care about strongly and you won't be swayed easily from your moral convictions~" he retreats to the back of the shop and brings out a old looking box he blew the dust off happily.
"I don't make very many of this type I find it difficult to match with an owner~" she opens the box slowly and pulls out a gorgeous nine and a half inch wand it's hilt had seashells and seaweed carved into it the brown wood captured the light. "That is a Rowan wand with a unicorn hair core it's solid in flexibility give it a few waves and let's see how it reacts~"
She takes the wand carefully and turns towards Draco noticing the small rip in his shirt her wrist flicks and she says in a firm tone of voice. "Reparo~!" She watched as the tear began to mend itself and then smiled approvingly. "I think it's a match mister Olivander thank you sir for all your hard work~" she pays him the seven galleon's for the wand and then meets with Draco's shocked eyes.
"Something the matter Draco you look speechless has my boundless skill impressed you~" her tone was quite playfully and she did her best to copy a haughty tone. "You could have blown me up what were you thinking~!" She shakes her head. "I doubt seriously that the injury would have been extensive most likely some minor singeing of your hair~"
She opens the door to the shop and waves him out. "Alright now I need to get a familiar to the Elowl emporium we go lead the way oh wise navigator~"
Draco rolled his eyes and led her to the shop without thinking he opened the door for he immediately realized what he had done and blushed brightly. "Not a word~" She smirks and walks right in. "I would never besmirch your image Draco think nothing of it besides it was probably just a moment of thoughtlessness~"
She walked around the shop looking at all the owls she came to a cage in back and saw a lone owl almost hidden away it looked to be a snowy they had long been her favorites due to how beautiful and how bright their eyes were, she reaches her hand out but the store manager stops her.
"Sorry lass this one is too viscous she'll take a chunk out of you faster than you can say snitch~" she looks at the owl and sees how miserable it appears. "I would like to purchase this owl I'm quite sure that it can be tamed with proper handling~" he scratches his head. "I'll make you a bet lassy if you can get the owl out of its cage without getting bit I'll let her go for free but if she does bite you then you have to pay I have to move her one way or another I have a new stock coming in~"
She slowly opened the cage and slowly guided her hand into the cage the owl recoiled at first but then approached curiously a short while later it walked right onto her arm she carefully maneuvered the owl out and smiled. "Your not so bad are you girl all it takes is a bit of patience and calm energy~" The manager scratches his head and takes a breath. "I'll be a dragon's uncle I haven't ever seen an owl tame down that fast before maybe it means you two are destined to be together true to my word it's free of charge~"
She did the rest of her shopping with Draco. "Since you have been at least civil allow me to treat us to lunch before I have to get home, last minute packing is a pain~" Draco rolled his eyes. "I'm still holding you to the favor this lunch doesn't count and did you ever decide on what your calling that bloody demon~" she nods happily. "Yes her name shall be Sugar Cookie because she's so sweet~"
Sugar cookie sat perched in its cage its eyes darted about as it watched everyone it then shot Draco a dirt warning look and ruffled its own fathers at him.
"I suppose the leaky cauldron is fine I'm hungry too also never pass up food if someone else is paying, I was also planning to meet Blaise Zabini there hopefully he won't be too mad I am running a bit late~" she gets up and pushes her chair in. "The leaky cauldron it is then~"
She walked to inn and restaurant opening the door for him when suddenly a poof occurred in face she was now covered in pink dust she saw a dark skinned young man scamper off With a young witch right behind clearly she had been caught up in some prank or revenge scheme.
"Blaise is at it again I see no doubt he said something incessantly stupid and now Neveah is going to set him straight I often times get caught in the crossfire as well~"
Blaise slides behind her and then peaks his head out. "Neveah I was just teasing you don't have to be so agressive Alessandra you'll rescue me right you said we were good friends~"
She waved at the clearly perturbed young woman. "I'm Alessandra it's an honor to meet you Neveah I'm sure Blaise here was just being an arse you can't murder him in public though I have a secret place don't worry~" she saw the young woman's expression turn from anger to a smile. "Ah well then your a woman after my own heart as for you Blaise Zabini consider yourself warned no one touches my lunch and gets away with it~"
Blaise quickly nodded and slinked over to the table with Draco bowing his head. Alessandra turned back to the young woman and shook her hand. "I'm Neveah Tonks a pleasure to meet you sorry you got roped into all of this and Blaise and I can pay for our own don't worry now come have a seat~"
Neveah had light brown hair that shifted color with every moment her blue eyes were gently and her features soft she wore a bell necklace and bore bronze and blue robes meaning she must have been a Ravenclaw .She nodded at the older witch and at across from her at the table it had certainly been an interesting year so far who knew what could be in store for her next.
