Chapter 7: The Room Of The Ancients

Ellegard dropped into the trapdoor entrance with a THUMP! Her body ploughed onto the solid ground, parting dust aside, indicating that the place hadn't been visible for a while. Her legs connecting with the ground was the only sound that had occurred.

She coughed a little from the dust particles in the air. Then glanced up at the entrance where the only light source was there. Her sisters along with Ajax were kneeling in front of the entrance, seeking assurance that they could enter. And Ellegard beckoned for them to do so.

She moved forwards as more thumps followed, the dust now in her eyes. More coughs followed but were quickly dismissed as everyone moved forward, crouching so they didn't make much noise. It was a dark and gloomy chamber, with a slight tinge of a dark blue. Occasional coughs rang through the air as they moved forward. The air was still with no circulation of sorts, making heat seep through their bodies. Ellegard didn't mind though, she quite liked the warmth after constantly moving in the perilous snow.

She didn't know why, but she felt the snow was dangerous. It was not natural, as though caused by something. It only empowered her suspicion when she realized the entire of the west was engulfed with snow. And if the prophecy really meant what it stated.. then it could only mean one thing.

'You're thinking of Lamarr aren't you?' Guessed Ajax as he sped up slightly, meeting with Ellegard in the front. He was whispering, feeling the need to do so, even though his whispers echoed through the narrow chambers. So, far they hadn't even come across a single prison. Ellegard condemned her disappointment by sighing in slight exasperation. But she indicated that it wasn't in the direction of Ajax's question.

'Yes' She breathed after a moment of silence, as though snipping the thin tension that was brewing up. She let out a sigh once again, rubbing her temples. Her recent occurring headache was aching massively.

'I just hope the prophecy is wrong. From what it states, lots of dangers await. The snow in the west could only mean one thing. Lamarr is rising. And the Prophecy did mention the rise of the Gods' She said, thinking of the nonsense the prophecy had stated. She knew it was insulting to state it as "Nonsense", but to Ellegard it was pure stupidity. The world she was in was corrupt enough. A war including the Gods that had the power to destroy the world occurring would just accelerate the nearing extinction of any race on earth.

Ajax nodded in response, not saying anything. Though she didn't look at him, Ellegard got the feeling he was trying not to meet her eyes. She heard small shuffling as they continued moving forward. Her sisters were silent behind her, making her feel that they were trying their best to cling to every word in their conversation.

'Do you ever wonder, why the gods are evil?' Asked Ajax, breaking the moment of silence. It was a shy question. But Ellegard didn't mind. She had been thinking along those lines as well.

'I mean- the gods were believed to have existed to save the world. But now they're the one's to destroy it? It's quite.. unnatural'

'The gods had a choice to chose a side. They did, and look where that got them? Locked away in another dimension' Replied Ellegard. But she knew it wouldn't last long, now that the prophecy was beginning. She had the feeling Ajax was thinking about the same thing.

'I personally thought that they knew about all of this. They knew that evil would always breach at some point or the other. It just scares me slightly. Evil knows it can never be constricted. Evil does not have a limit. But good does'

'It's true. Evil will always be there. But good will too. They complete each other' Replied Ellegard.

Ajax chuckled. 'You sound like a Teller'

Ellegard managed to crack a smile. 'Tellers are prophets who can see the future. I just said some cheesy lines'

The duo smiled as they continued forward. During the whole journey Ajax felt as though he didn't belong. But at that moment, with Ellegard, he recognized the truth.

'Ugh.. we've been going for hours' Whined Sinacul suddenly. At that moment Ellegard only realized her legs felt like jelly. But she knew she couldn't afford to stop. They were on a quest under the ground in the dark chambers of Streakwood. She felt as though the journey above to the Midwoods was much more shorter than the journey back to Streakwood underground.

'Wait. I see something' Said Caroline as Frostine's hand lit, emitting light for them to see. It was indeed, an exit of sorts. And from what Ellegard could see, it led to a huge hallway.

They reached it. And it did indeed. It was a much bigger hallway, as large as the throne room in Ruedelt. There was dusted cobwebs everywhere, along with several statues present on either sides present on the sides of the room. Each of them wore a Knight's armor. Ellegard stared in armor. It had been awhile since she had seen a Knight. But she knew what she was looking at was just a statue. Possibly decorated for showcase. Each of them carried a spear and a shield, a plus symbol dividing them into four parts. They wore a helmet each, none of them a single touch different from the rest.

With a start Ellegard realized that she recognized the place from the Legends. The Book of Old. She was standing in the Room of The Ancients.

'The Room Of The Ancients' Chuckled Sinacul as they stared in wonder and awe. It wasn't a particularly beautiful place. But the sheer possibility of them being in the same room as the Knights who fought alongside Ruenard was enough to send them spiraling in wonder. They were either known as Knights or Ancients. Beings of Elemental power. They were giants, the same size as the statues Ellegard looked upon at that point.

She glanced at the single circle present in the center of the hallway. Figures popped into her mind as they fitted themselves into her imagination of Ruenard, Rorvan, Lycan, Halicus and Kren standing in a circle, with Ruenard in the center. Dramal would be curled around the five, with the Ancients on the exterior. She still remembered the great scene described in detail. Of Ruenard's speech and the Light shining on him, with him holding the sword of embers.

'Wow. I can't believe we're actually here' Whispered Ajax, his voice echoing in the hallway.

'I found it' Said Teravere suddenly as all eyes turned to her. They were too busy fantasying in their own thoughts to have noticed the door at the end of the hallway. They moved towards, analyzing it in all possible ways.

'I think this leads to the Palace' Said Frostine as they contemplated. Ellegard nodded, Dramal seemed likely to be in another room.

Frostine looked at Caroline, a moment of understanding passing between them. They wished them luck as the two sisters walked through the door. Ellegard didn't bother peeping at what was there. She was too busy trying to find out how to find Dramal.

She glanced around, trying to spot another door or something. The circle was the only thing that seemed to indicate something to Ellegard. Her footsteps were the only sound, along with the twins and Ajax's that echoed through the hallway.

Ellegard crouched in front of one of the soldier's shield, her armor clinking as she did so. She fingered the embroidered texture, the dust wiped momentarily. She brushed her hair aside and got up.

'Any clue?' Asked Sinacul as they looked at each other, shaking their heads helplessly. It had only been awhile, but Ellegard begged to having gone with Frostine and Caroline. They had action on their hand, whereas Ellegard was stuck trying to search for a stupid entrance, with Sinacul, Teravere and Ajax.

Ellegard and the twins didn't have the best of relationships. They didn't even have much of a relationship. No time was spent on chatting or bonding. There was no rivalry either.

She glanced around, the darkness seeping to her eyes. She couldn't help but imagine the place with more light. She glanced at the twins who were apparently doing the same thing as her. She felt a bit of satisfaction for they hadn't found the entrance yet. All her life she felt left behind in her family, the one who needed to be told twice to understand. In other words, the "slow one". It was one of the prior reasons she longed for attention and to be out at the front. So she wasn't remembered as the "slow one" anymore. Over the years it had worked. But being with her sisters who were evidently much better than her at.. everything, memories of her past snapped back at her.

She realized it was dead silent. Shouldn't there have been noise from the twins and Ajax's footsteps? She could barely make out the murky figures in the darkness. From the looks of it, they were all looking at her. Apparently they were confused as to why she wasn't doing anything.

'Um.. Ellegard? Are you okay?' Asked Ajax meekly. The silence was disrupted from the unsure question as Ellegard suddenly felt self-conscious. She hoped the darkness had shrouded her in the circle so they didn't see her blush. Thankfully, it did. The circle was no different from the rest of the room.

Suddenly, a thought struck her. The circle.. the images that had depicted Ruenard and The Ancients along with Dramal was said to have the circle illuminated with light. A single hole in the wall above would shine on the One, who was prophesied to save the world, when standing on the circle.

'A single hole in the wall above.. ' Realized Ellegard as she glanced up. It was nearly impossible to tell in the darkness, but she could make out a circle implanted in the above ceiling. She squinted at it, trying to find out how to open it for it was above. She took her sword out absent-mindedly as it was pulled out of it's scabbard with a SHING! She could feel all eyes on her from the sound.

'Ellegard?' Asked Ajax. Ellegard ignored him and took aim. Surely it would not work. But it was worth a try. She waited one last second, and let it fly, as though it was a lance. It hit, and fell down, rattling against the solid ground.

Another sword noise came out as Ellegard guessed it was Ajax. 'What was that?' He questioned, his voice having changed from unsure to a deep one. Though his question was more a threatening statement rather than a question.

'It's ok' Reassured Ellegard, gesturing with her hands. Ajax's sword lowered a bit. She bent down and picked up her sword. She saw no way as to open the hole. It was useless.

'What happened?' Questioned Ajax, his voice echoing through the hall. He came to stand next to her as she frowned at the circle. Ajax turned to where she was looking at as his expression mirrored Ellegard's.

'We need to get that to open' Said Ellegard. Ajax nodded, deep in thought. Suddenly, he turned around, apparently looking for something.

'Where are Teravere and Sinacul?'

Ellegard didn't notice it too. Teravere and Sinacul had disappeared. Ever since Frostine and Caroline had left, they had been dead silent. And if Ellegard knew one thing, it was that Sinacul was never silent.

Suddenly a huge THUD! Occurred in front of them. Dust exploded everywhere as Ellegard and Ajax swatted it away, coughing. Once the dust cleared, they got a clear view of what had fallen.

It was the circle. Ellegard gasped as she glanced up, light shining through the hole. They felt something drop next to them as Teravere appeared, dusting herself thoroughly. Sinacul appeared next to her, handling a bow Ellegard never noticed. Coming to think of it, she didn't even pay attention to any of their weapons, including Teravere's axe.

'How did you- ?' Ajax stopped halfway, unable to form a proper question.

Sinacul just smirked as Teravere walked over to the circle on the floor. She kicked it aside as the light shone on the larger circle, illuminating it perfectly. Suddenly churning noises came about as the circle began turning. With each round it went lower, until it completely disappeared from their vision. It was another dark tunnel, from what Ellegard could make out.

She turned to the twins and Ajax. With a nod, she dropped in. It was a short distance, and immediately, much more dust exploded, more than before. She coughed and beckoned for them to follow. They obliged, more dust exploding as they dropped in. Several coughs rang through the air as they turned forward. There was a door waiting for them. Ellegard timidly walked forward, her hand wavering when it connected with the dusty handle. She turned to the others for confirmation as they nodded solemnly.

She turned the handle as the legendary prison of Dramal came visible.

It was humongous, the size of a mountain. But Ellegard understood with the size of it's captive.

Dramal was a metal dragon. With shiny metal scales that gleamed even in the darkness and dust. Ever single limb in his body was chained to the ground. His slow breathing echoed through the room, pulling and pushing them inch by inch. His scaly tail was chained along with all his other parts, restricting him from even making a moment. They were rips and cuts on his majestic body as Ellegard stared at it in awe. His so-said blood red eyes were latched, as though it had remained closed forever. Ellegard could almost feel the radiating pain the creature was in.

'He's been here since the last Timeline' Said Teravere as Ellegard took a step closer, her hand out stretched as though attempting to pat the dragon's scales.

'Ellegard be- ' Ajax was cut short by a sudden rumble as the wall behind them collapsed. The crumbled rocks fell on the entrance as a roar made Ellegard blood run cold.

She turned from the rubble to the prison, where a Blood curling creature awaited her.
